Sundays in March are so BORING.
I was just curious for home owners, what is your relationship like with your neighbors? I've been a homeowner for close to 25 years. The neighbors I had to my right side (when you face the road) got kicked out of their houses. They have been my neighbors since day one, we were always cool with them. They were into drugs but they never really bothered us.
My kids had a connection with them growing up to a certain extent. Now, these guys just moved over night and didn't even take the time to say goodbye. On the other side of my house, I have had 4 different neighbors since 2001 and none of them have been friendly. Am I missing something here? When did people just start ignoring one another? In today's world everyone is afraid to infringe on rights and privacy.
I know this sort of thing may be sort of a "1960s mentality" because I thought that after being neighbors for all these years with never a disagreement, always a comradery between the two families and out of respect of that. No one cares about longevity living next to one another. Nothing bad happened bad personally, there was no reason why people couldn't say goodbye. I thought there was a good neighbor connection/policy.
Back in the day when the neighborhood people moved out, the neighbors would go over and offer to help and there would be a send off. Maybe a bottle of wine or a tray of cookies. No date, no nothing...
Anyone else feeling the same understanding here?
Was your neighbor ever a murderer?
hmmmmm.....
hmmmmm.....
Just played basketball with them outside, they were mainly big time pot smokers. I think they got into heroin pretty recently and that's where their money was spent.
So it is what it is. I really don’t care.

Speaking of that. Last winter I shoveled my driveway, shoveled my grandfather's driveway, shoveled my mother's driveway and came back home. It was one of the bad storms where we got over a foot of snow. Something like 17 inches. So, when I came home I saw my neighbor struggling. I went over to offer my service. He accepted. It was the kind of snow where you shovel and you are basically creating a tunnel because there was so much snow. Then you'd chop down the top of the tunnel and shovel again in the same spot. It took forever.
Well, when we were finishing up his wife came outside. She was baking a chocolate chip banana bread. She offered it to me. I said no thanks. She insisted so I took it. Very nice of her.
Here is the ridiculous part. By the time I got back to my house the driveway was covered again. So now I was out all day and shoveling a driveway for the 5th time. The guy I just helped sat in his garage smoking while he watched me shovel my driveway. I wanted to take that banana bread and shove it up gis ass.
My now ex wife and I used to walk a lot, so we'd be seen quite a bit, and would chat with the neighbors. She has an eating disorder, and was in an anorexic phase the last couple years, and was getting skinny, and then one day, we're divorced and she's gone (don't worry, she went into the fat phase and chunked up...didn't do a Karen Carpenter). Fast forward several years... I find out the neighborhood rumor was that she died. Did anyone wish me sympathy? nope. WTF?
With that said, a guy in the neighborhood recently crossed me. We have been friendly in the past, but recently he asked that I not walk my dogs in front of his house. His house is set back 50 yards from the road and the land in front where I walk my dogs is the Devil's Strip. Mind you, I clean up after my dog's business so there is no mess left behind. He just doesn't want me to walk in front of his house. Well, fuck him. If his house was on fire, I would watch drinking a tall, glass of water.
We put in a paver path to connect our kitchen doors, maintained the open space behind our house for chipping golf balls and went out or hung out as couples once a week at least. That's the worst thing about moving. Good neighbors are awesome. I'm still kind of devastated over that part.
Have met people in the new neighborhood here but it will never be the same.
My previous house before that we had a great street too. Top end of the block was all friendly and we looked out for each other. I think Clams Casino lived in the middle of the block but I never made it down that far. Lots of riff raff. :)

We are not especially friendly with our neighbors. Maybe a wave when we see each other. I believe for my wife and I it’s a matter of lifestyle. We both work full time. We don’t have young children. Plus some of our neighbors have been really annoying like blowing their so now on my driveway, sneaking their garbage in our pail and never offering to help with anything. That’s especially annoying because through the years I’ve helped clean up their snow. But no more.

Lol, this could be the basis for a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.

I am sure that was very annoying for you, but I just legit chuckled so it was all worth it in the end!
