Giants love this kid

Depending on 6, he could be at play even at his 17. Definitely at 37.
Good

Very intriguing prospect. 45 career sacks! Good size,6-5,260,with 34" arms and good speed. Definitely fits the description of an edge rusher. Level of competition?

All time NCAA leader, this guy may have a Kahlil Mack type rise. Definitely in the convo for 17? Could he be for 6?

No. He shouldn't be in the conversation for either. Probably shouldn't be in the conversation for the Giants at 37 either. Definitely a better fit as a 43 DE.

Here are his Pros & Cons from TDN.
Quote:
PROS: Super productive - 122 tackles, 41.5 tackles for loss, 27.5 sacks and five forced fumbles over the past three seasons. Gives an honest effort on every snap and makes plays on hustle. Has success slashing through gaps as a run defender. Slapped together well, looking the part of an NFL edge defender. When he gets home, Ferguson does well to separate the football from the quarterback.

CONS: Needs to disengage from blocks and play through contact better. Lacks the hand technique needed to shed quickly and keep his pads clean. Too many body-to-body rushes with no identifiable plan to get to the quarterback. The frequent square up position and lack of hand technique leads to him getting reached and not keeping outside leverage. Ability to convert speed to power is below average. Does not read the tackles set well and appropriately combat it, missing opportunities to draw them off balance and attack vulnerable areas. Does little with his upper body, feet or hands to set up his pass rush moves. Pads have a tendency to get high, robbing him of play strength. Offers way too much surface area to blockers and they have no issues landing their punch on him. Lacks the burst and flexibility to consistently win around the outside edge track in the NFL. Vertical push does not put stress on the offensive tackles feet to keep up with landmarks arounds the arc.
Also Khalil Mack

Didn't "rise" he was a top 5 pick the entire offseason. I talked to Jerry Reese about him prior to the East West Shrine game. Jerry Reese told me they were interested, but he said there's no way Mack gets out of the top 5.

No way for #6! And not for #17. More in the 2nd or 3rd round. He was not invited to the combine due to an off the field incident for a fight at McDonald's during his Freshman year. That hurt his stock a lot.

Even before the combine he was a divisive prospect. The people that love him, love him. The people that hate him, hate him and bring up his lack of bend and that he isn't the most explosive or fastest guy.
ok, so is everybody talking about

the same guy, lol?
Ferguson
Marty866b : 3/17/2019 6:24 pm : link
I was definitely not thinking about him in the first round at where we are selecting. I read all the negatives on him but I'll give you a big positive. He must have done something right to have 45 sacks. He has the physical attributes to be good.
Don’t know enough about him

But I do know that DG has been very vocal and adamant about valuing production. I think valuing production over measurables but maybe just giving remoulade points to production. Regardless, sack leader ain’t chicken feed.
Impressive Credentials

From college website.....if there's a run on edge players does this guy last till 17?

I notice the video lists Javon Rolland-Jones as #3 all-time sack leader, not far behind Ferguson. I looked him up. Graduated last year and not drafted. Signed and released since by two teams. It may not be chicken feed, but I guess it ain't much.
I know a lot of people that know J-Ferg

Lots of red flags. He got uninvited from the Combine for failure to disclose a past crime that was on his record. You can argue that falls on the agent for not submitting the correct paperwork, but that goes back to who he choose to be his agent.

The kid has a ton of talent, but he is currently surrounded by a very bad "team," i.e., agent, financial advisor, hangers-on.

think this is just due diligence. I don't see the Giants drafting Ferguson. Too much baggage. The common theme of DG's tenure so far is to get rid of such players. Why would he then draft one, especially with a high pick? Ferguson has also said he doesn't want to play in cold weather.

You can argue your perspective of the rightness or wrongness of it, but I'm just saying that he does have the production credit and DG is on record saying that he values production (perhaps) over mere athleticism. He is meeting with Ferguson after all.

Giants check into a guy to see if he has a willingness to change and/or mature. If they feel Ferguson has shown the willingness to walk right then they would still pick him. Thats possibly what all the checking in on him is for. They know the top 3 blue chip pass rush guys will likely be gone. Allen, Q Will, and Bosa and we dont know how much they like Sweat. I presume they though but is it more or less than Ferguson?

17 probably, 37 doubtful.
