Dave-Te Podcast-An Examination of the Draft's Edge Rushers

nflscouting : 3/17/2019 7:08 pm
MUCH LIKE AEROSMITH, NFL TEAMS WILL LOVE "LIVING ON THE EDGE" THIS DRAFT

Scouts are projecting that at least seven edge rushers will be selected in the first round. Gone are the days of the Too Tall Jones-like defensive ends, replaced by these sleek "sports car" types. The changes have occurred as teams put more emphasis on getting to the quarterback. The 2000 NFL Combine ends averaged 6:03.5-277 and averaged 5.0/40-yard with 24 reps in the 225. The 2009 Combine group at this spot averaged 6:03.4-264, ran 4.92 with 24 reps. This year, they checked in at 6:04.5, 258, averaging 4.77 and 27 reps - obviously smaller, yet faster and stronger.

Here is the latest podcast from Paul Crane and Dave-Te' Thomas. Check back tomorrow, as this duo sits down and looks at the one-, three-, five-gap defensive tackles that teams are coveting.

NFL Draft Overview - Edge Rushers
Paul Crane and super scout Dave-Te' Thomas look at the top 20 edge rushers in this year's NFL Draft. From Nick Bosa, Josh Allen + Montez Sweat through Maxx Crosby, Carl Granderson + Shareef Miller hear how all of them rate between Rounds 1-7, how they play + which NFL teams would be best fits.

Really enjoyed that!

Between Dave TE and Sy - I feel like I am prepped and ready for the draft

If you get a chance also listen to Dave TE podcast on the QBs. If you’re in the Tyree Jackson camp, there is a comparison there that is alarming beyond alarming

Will be posting my defensive tackle analysis podcast later today. The pods seem to get info I need to you folks that you can listen during your leisure. Now, whoever the Giants take, I will post my complete scouting reports on those selections as they happen.
Watch how many Giants brass show up Wednesday at the Ohio State Pro Day, as Parris Campbell (round 1-2) & Johnny Dixon (round 5-6) really impressed the staff at the Combine. Still, I would love that somehow, some way, that Hakeen Butler is still available when the Giants come on board in Round Two. This kid could be the Giants' best WR option in this draft (think Detroit's Kenny Golladay).
As for my QB pod, Giants fans, a little hint/nudge-both the Giants & Pats like this local kid Jacob Dolegala at Central Connecticut. I know, the Haskins issue at #6, DG saying he will only go for a QB in round one, but whatever camp this kid ends up in might find themselves with a stud in a few years. He's 6-6, 235 & DO NOT get bugsy on just 49 TD passes. The team offense is built with the running game occupying 75% of their snaps

Glad to see you are on-board the Hakeem Butler train. He is my favorite WR in this entire draft. A 6'6 guy that can juke smaller DBs out of their shoes. And has much more sepration ability than N'Keal Harry.

I was hoping he'd last longer (b/c of our other needs ) but I would take him at 37 without blinking.

Me too. You look at the value of the big receivers. Especially if you have a QB that can get good trajectory, it allows the big guy to either catch in stride and/or win most jump ball battles. See Buffalo? Nice signings, but that's a lot of sub 5-10 guys. Look at Kumerow-Rams, Golladay-Lions. Not only can they go up for it, that forceful stiff-arm ability allows for good RAC. Yeah, Metcalf had good 40s & all, but flexibility wise, Butler has all 6-foot plus tall guys trumped. If my Wrs have to battle for the ball over the middle, Butler has low pad level & good hip swivel. He's actually my #2 rated WR behind Campbell. Metcalf? Looks like an over muscled straight line runner like Brett Perriman. Brown? Well, he's Antonio's cousin & coaches say he was a "load to handle" off the field. To me, he's like Coleman-neeeds a free lane, as he will have obvious issues vs the press. Look at two Day 3 sleepers-Georgia State's Hart & the kid that dazzled in routes at the Combine-Dixon out of Ohio State
I don't like that Hakeem Butler didn't run the 3 - cone.

His short area burst is a big question mark, but at 37 what he brings to the table as a blocker and big, powerful receiving threat I wouldn't hate it. Just hard to see DG going WR there.
Great podcast on the defensive tackles

Watch the tape. He has juked CBs to the point of actually falling down at the top of the stem. Its a sight to behold actually.

Lol, Dave great stuff as usual.

Dont like Metcalf. Either C.O.D like an oil tanker.

Love Campbell too he was my #1 until I watched more of Hakeem. Hakeem is too freakish. Man some of the catches that dude made it was like a man vs little kids in the secondary.

Is Campbell though going to pick up the nuances of fine route running? Which we know is critical in the NFL. Love everything else about him.
Dave Im really trying to get a bead on

Where the Giants go if Allen, Q Will and Bosa are gone and if Sweat is gone too (or if they prefer someone else).

The names I have at 6 that make sense to me are Greedy and Burns. Greedy effortless mirroring of guys who will play on Sunday. Its rare to see that kind of mirroring. Sure other stiff needs work but that is an elite rare skill.

I dont know if any OT is good enough for 6 but like a few alot. Love Jaylon (and Giants do too) but maybe 17. Could he get pushed up all the way to 6? Trade down to 10 and take Jaylon there?
