Tired of the negativity

EJJ : 3/17/2019 11:53 pm
Understandably the majority of BBI are righting off the 2019 season.
IMHO Mark my words barring catastrophic injuries The NY Giants will contend for a play off birth!
This team will be made up of high character team first men.
Old school NY Giants football. Run first control the game. Hard hitting, aggressive blitzing Defense!
Barkley is a STUD! the line will be much improved with All Pro caliber RG Zeitler. LT Solder is in his second year on the team and should improve as well as LG Hernandez.. I expect either a free agent up grade at RT or an low round draft pick and the Center position should be improved with Halipino back.
Pound the rock let Eli be a game manager. Say what you want but Eli is a winner and knows this is it you don't think he will be ready?
Shermur and Shula will run a Ball control offence, beat the other team up and keep their O off the field.
We are going to draft into the strength of the draft Defense! This is the year to get a young , aggressive, fast D and DG is loading up on picks. Betcher will have the players to fit his scheme. Already DG brought in free agents who played well for him as well as the Safety Peppers in the OBJ trade who is just as good and defiantly better in pass coverage than Collins.
Lastly the schedule is much more favorable this year.
I know I know I'm a homer but I really feel this team is gonna fight for four quarters and with the addition of several blue chip draft picks they will be much improved.

Peppers and Halipino

if this is the plan then we must get Wilkins from Clemson
markky : 3/18/2019 1:13 am : link
he is a known high character guy who would be good value at 6.

I am also irrationally optimistic and believe we can compete next year. i think the OL takes another jump forward and you'll see scores similar to the back half of last year from our O.

Mark me down as an optimist

However Giants fans have every reason to be negative after going 8-24 the last two years, under two different coach/GM combos. This isn’t 1990 and we don’t have the veteran leadership or a defense to carry the team to a championship
A couple of things in their favor
George from PA : 3/18/2019 5:31 am : link
Schedule will be easier.

Cowboys without a 1st rd pick. Lawrence on tag

Washington will have new QB

No more foles magic with the Eagles.

Holding judgement until we see what draft brings, but potentially a much more athletic defense, OL solidified, and far less drama

Over / Under on the week Giants are unofficially
Jimmy Googs : 3/18/2019 5:42 am : link
but realistically eliminated from playoff contention?

I say Week 10

What "drama" impacted their season last year?

They've gotten worse, not better.

No dissenting opinions around here! Fall in line and let’s all think alike! That’s what makes a message board really fun. Everybody believing and saying the same things!

Great post!
It s the NFL, they might contend for playoffs
joeinpa : 3/18/2019 6:59 am : link
But for me the point is to be a contender for a championship; that s not happening this season.

I will be much more excited about your proposal if they draft a quarterback even if he sits behind Eli for a season.

But the prospect of being on the fringes of the play offs with the quarterback question still unaddressed comes under the category of “treading water” for me.

Also, “Eli is a winner”....... he certainly has not been lately, and in 15 seasons they have won play off games in only two.

Granted in those 2 seasons he was the ultimate winner, but that s living in the past.

This team has had many deficiencies over the past several years, and Eli has done nothing to raise the level of play around him.
But then what happens to the 2020 QB plan...
GFAN52 : 3/18/2019 7:02 am : link
if the Giants by some stroke of luck make the playoffs.
If Eli has time and the defense is middle of the road
bradshaw44 : 3/18/2019 7:13 am : link
We will contend for the wild card. The OL is the life blood of the offense.
Having SB as a safety blanket and time to throw 4/7 yard passes on third down the Giants should be good enough to at least annoy teams.

The defense needs pass rushers. If we don’t have those I don’t care what our secondary looks like, we will suck and fold in the 4th qtr per usual. Pass rushers are everything. A good pass rush makes a mediocre secondary look good. I would be happy if three of the first four picks were all pass rush specialists. And one OL with the fourth pick. Just build the crap out of our lines.

That’s how we compete with or with out Odell.

They will be competing

I'm sorry. They have one of the worst overall rosters in football.

Well they don't have a roster yet. There will be a large number of new players on the team.

They very well might be very bad this year, but the thing is that fans, and sports media are God awful at evaluating these things, and base there opinions mostly on what happened last year, and how many "names" a team has. Yet both seem very unaware of that fact and are surprised every damn year when teams that are "supposed" to be good are bad and vice versa.

Then they walk around saying shit like "gee this is a really weird year, who would have thunk it?" Every. Year.

BBI in particular is either black or white on the Giants, most years the general consensus is either that they are SuperBowl contenders or that they will be picking top 5. Everything is always blown out of proportion.

The only certainty is that everyone will be completely wrong about at least a third of the NFL.

That said, I agree with the op that the hyperbolic eeyore bullshit in every thread is getting tiresome.

2016: 10

Exactly. We’ve gotten rid of two of our better players, one who will probably end up in the HOF. Still are without a QB of the future, and has MCL pointed out been picking top 10 a lot recently out side of one year.

Complaining about people being negative is crazy, because this team hasn’t given anything to be optimistic about yet.
Not only will the Giants finish under .500 yet again, but
GeofromNJ : 3/18/2019 9:48 am : link
'playoff' is one word and the other word you're looking for is 'berth', not 'birth'.

"IMHO Mark my words barring catastrophic injuries The NY Giants will contend for a play off birth!"

I would also add that the path
.McL. : 3/18/2019 9:56 am : link
to self improvement is the recognition and acceptance of what you are, and what you are not.

Optimism for the sake of optimism, and pessimism for the sake of pessimism serves no purpose.

There are some posters on this site who are always optimists, others who are always pessimists. However, I think the majority try to be realists... If you are seeing a lot more pessimism than optimism, there is probably good reason.
And honestly...
Tim in Eternal Blue : 3/18/2019 10:03 am : link
I'm not trying to be negative when I say we will be competing for a top 10 spot.

I understand the roster isn't complete yet... But (outside) Zeitler... You can argue that the Giants haven't upgraded a single position from last year.

The losses of OBJ, Collins, Snacks,JPP, Vernon. I don't think we've upgraded those positions (yet)... Peppers is still wait and see.

So... We have some rebuilding to do. Hopefully in 2020-21 this team is ready to be fully competitive.
Nobody here is righting off the season...
Tesla : 3/18/2019 10:06 am : link
The more astute posters are, however, writing the season off.
Also, if Eli is a winner...
Tesla : 3/18/2019 10:08 am : link
why does he lose so much?
I don't give a shit about positivity or negativity
jcn56 : 3/18/2019 10:12 am : link
I care about the team competing. Not even winning - which would be ideal - but at least looking like they might have a chance at maybe being in the playoffs at some point past October.

That hasn't been the case for quite some time. This team starts the season having parted with LC and OBJ, two of their more talented, young players. In the meanwhile, we get 'well, they didn't win with those guys' - as if there was some solid foundation of winning consistently just before they got here. The team has been boned since 2012.

Tim, I hear ya...
Although JPP was traded before the start of last season. And don't forget Apple being traded as well.

The Giants started last year 1-7. How many positions are arguably better right now. Yes we have 12 rookies coming. But that also brings lots of rookie growing pains.

And that is OK for a rebuilding team. It hopefully means 2020 things start getting much better. But its OK to still suck in 2019.
