NFT: Dynasty Fantasy Baseball Advice - I need help

dep026 : 3/18/2019 7:59 am
Basically I became the 14th member of the league and the other 13 got to keep 8 players. So you can imagine how bad my team may be. I got the opportunity to take the first 8 I want before the draft. As you can sssume the pickings is slim for me. I am taking two prospects to build my team

Tatis
Whitley

So I got 6 choices. I want to take 3 hitters and 3 pitchers. I’ve narrowed my pitchers to these 4 players:

Wheeler
Greinke
Archer
MadBum

As for hitters... I am really torn

Puig
Hanigan
Meadows
Buxton
Segura
Pham
Cruz

For my 6 remaining I have
Greinke
Archer
Wheeler
Puig
Meadows
Buxton

Please help!!!!
Do you have to sign these players to contracts?

No contracts. It is a keeper league.
Grienke Archer MadBum would be my 3 pitchers

See I was worried about MadBum bouncing back. His velocity sucks and wheeler at least is younger.... I don’t know
Yeah it basically is a toss up

that looks like a shitty situation to be in. Did they expand the league to get to 14? Or did you take over a team that already existed and because the team was so bad not only did you get to choose from your team's players but also the non-keepers as well? I personally wouldn't have joined the league. That is just throwing money away. And this will take at least a couple of years to fix.
The hitters are ticky for me....
dep026 : 3/18/2019 8:35 am : link
I can take the establish older players and not win it like Cruz, Pham, Segura, and Puig... But I am not sure I like that route.

But I am looking for some young breakout guys who I can keep for as long as I want. Here are soem names.

Austin Meadows
Byron Buxton
Luke Voit
Austin Hays
Lewis Brinson
Wily Adams
Brian Anderson

They expanded to 14, and my fee is waived this year.
my suggestion
Steve in ATL : 3/18/2019 8:36 am : link
Greinke
Archer
Wheeler
Puig
Meadows

Not a believer in Buxton.

Surprised that Ryan Hanigan is under consideration. If you meant Mitch Haniger then keep him as your 6th keeper. Otherwise, I would probably keep Nelson Cruz and try to trade him.

Yeah I meant to say Mitch. Haniger. Oops!

If they expanded it then you should have had access to players on their team. They shouldn't have been able to keep 8 players apiece. That is just wrong. They should have been able to protect like 4 players per team and then you can take 8 players from them but maybe have a rule where you cannot take more than one player per team. Hey, but at least they waived the fee this year.
Yeah it kind of stinks, but its a challenge

I just dont know what to do with the veteran players.

Is Michael Brantley going to flourish with Houston?
Will Puig rake in that mini ball park?
Is Haniger that good to take early?
Is Pham a guy who's worth keeping for years?

I think Madbum is fading. If you keep him then try to trade.
If you’re playing for free this year

I’d consider more than just 2 minor league top prospects
The more I think about it the more Wheeler makes
Jints in Carolina : 3/18/2019 8:57 am : link
more sense over MadBum. I agree, it seems like all the miles on MadBum are beginning to pile up.

Also, don't sleep on Tommy Pham this year.

Most of them are gone. I want to draft Royce Lewis though.
If it's a keep league

Take Brent Honeywell. Will be a top line starter this year.
can you negotiate with other teams
rich in DC : 3/18/2019 9:40 am : link
One idea is that if you plan to punt this season, negotiate with some of the other teams to pick players with an agreement to trade that player for one of their guys.

For example, someone will likely very much want Wheeler or Grienke, but either didn't have him on their roster to keep, or would be willing to trade at the draft for him.

You could target younger guys like Ozzie Albies or German Marquez who will be good to above average now, but might not be ready for a breakout season till later.

Then, spend the rest of your early picks getting guys for 2-3 years down the road. I agree that Whitely and Tatis are excellent targets. But don't go to sleep on Keston Hiura, Jo Adell, Carter Kieboom, or Jesus Luzardo.
So I am confirmed at 7....
dep026 : 3/18/2019 10:23 am : link
I have

Tatis
Whitley.... both as my minor league keepers

Then I have
Greinke
Wheeler
Puig
Haniger
Meadows

I need one more to choose from..

Archer
MadBum
Buxton
Pham
Cruz

I am leaning towards Pham over Buxton.
You want to gamble
Metnut : 3/18/2019 10:24 am : link
on huge upside. Look at bounceback candidates like Alex Reyes, Julio Urias.

Zach Wheeler is an easy keeper if you get 8. Puig and Hanigan too. Look at some other young sleepers with good advanced metrics who might be overlooked. Nick Pivetta on your Phillies is a prime breakout candidate.

The pool of guys who listed here is mostly veterans. Expand your search.
Oh crap... we only
dep026 : 3/18/2019 10:32 am : link
start a DH and 2 OF. So keeping 4 in this regard wouldnt make mcuh sense. Gotta rethink this.

Thats because everyone keeps the younger guys. Thats why I was I was thinking Buxton, Brinson, Meadows, and those type of players.
