Giants are "in the mix" for Vinny Curry, Wynn has "options"

Giants are in this mix for Vinny Curry as well, per source. Pass-rushing DE. They also still have interest in bringing back Kerry Wynn after Josh Mauro chose Raiders. Wynn has some options. #Giants #Bengals #NFLFreeAgency

since Curry was cut by the Bucs, he would not count in the comp-pick formula.

is left in that Curry?

Perhaps a role player now?

He’s got a good amount of football left, especially in a rotational role. He plays very well in the 3-4, as he gets to be kicked inside and use his speed and power against guards.

Used him well with a lot of stunts to get him free. Would think tho he’d go to the Rams if the money is the same.

HAHAHA.
even if we sign both Curry and Wynn....
Andy in Boston : 3/18/2019 9:03 am : link
neither of them are guaranteed to make the roster....sames goes for Olsen Pierre. I'm guessing Giants draft 2-3 defensive lineman or edge rushers....not going to be able to keep them all.

I just hope they are very careful with how much 2020 cap they waste on anyone from here in.

Slow clap.
Curry's been better as a 4-3 end

Wynn looked like he was a good fit for Bettcher

I understand Wynn is limited but he can be a Dave Tollefson type role player on a good team

Wynn's a HMWG HMBG. He can fit any scheme and is the type of guy that fills a nice role for a team like NE and makes 1-2 splash plays in the postseason to then get significantly overpaid in FA!
Any chance that Curry
Jay on the Island : 3/18/2019 9:35 am : link
could play 3-4 DE or would he be an OLB in Bettcher's scheme?

As for Wynn I hope that he moves on and receives a solid contract so the Giants could potentially receive another comp pick next year. Wynn played surprisingly well early on but then he once again vanished for most of the season. I would like to see the Giants move on from him and bring in a younger player with upside.
contracts aside, why would anyone prefer Wynn?
giants#1 : 3/18/2019 9:37 am : link
Curry has more QBHits + Sacks in each season from 2014-2017 than Wynn has for his entire career.

Curry in a rotation with Golden, Carter, and #6 should provide a solid pass rush.

Not big enough to play end in the 3-4.
Not exactly a duo who would make opposing QB’s

Quake in fear. Wynn is the quintessential JAG. Curry at this stage is pretty close as well.

Vinny Curry

Is playing the role of last years Connor Barwin?
Vinny Curry would be one such player
KSIXI : 3/18/2019 9:43 am : link
I would honestly also go after Jamie Collins or Zach Brown as well.

All players with something to prove that also won't factor into compensatory picks because they were all cut.

Not big enough to play end in the 3-4.

I wasn't suggesting a full time role but in certain packages he might be a solid fit at 3-4 DE. He's only 6'3 but he is listed at 279 lbs. He's the same weight at Aaron Donald. He is the same size as Mario Edwards Jr and bigger than Kerry Wynn.
Would prefer Houston
rasbutant : 3/18/2019 9:46 am : link
But don’t now what he’s asking for price wise.

Houston would be ideal at the right price. Adrian Clayborn or Curry are more likely options to hopefully be an upgrade over Barwin.

giants#1 : 3/18/2019 9:59 am : link
He can come in at DE with both Hill/DT inside and Golden at the other side with his hand in the dirt.

Or rush from the inside on passing downs when DT is likely out.
Curry, Wynn, Collins, Houston

I feel like a kid in a candy store with a nickel in my pocket. I thought we only had $2.6M in cap. I'd rather be going after Remmers and drafting some young, cheap D's

Supposedly $12.6M per the other thread. Can always create more (Zeitler's an easy target).

He is under rated on special teams as well. He's a good player to have on your roster, but he's not a difference maker.

The Giants don't seem to have the money for Houston, not without freeing up some cap space.

You're a jag.

Not everyone on the team can be a superstar - Wynn has come from nothing to make himself a valuable contributor on defense and specials. You need guys like that to win

Wynn is definitely not a pass rusher.
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/18/2019 11:24 am : link
If he doesn't fill that need, why pay him free agent money?
I thought Wynn really adapted well...
BillKo : 3/18/2019 11:36 am : link
...to the 3-4/style of defense this year.

However, money determines if you bring him back...can't overpay for a part timer.
He'd be replacing Wynn not Barwin
AcesUp : 3/18/2019 11:55 am : link

The smartest thing about Belichick is that he identifies what players do well, and asks them to play within themselves. He puts guys in positions to win.

Kerry Wynn has a role, he's a tenacious run defender. And really gives you nothing on the pass defense side.
Wynn plays specials pretty damn well too

next year. It's something Philly and the Pats do routinely. Getting guys like Curry and Bethea, who were released by their former teams and don't count in the calculations, is a smart move.
