I'm a bit frustrated

jtgiants : 3/18/2019 1:01 pm
Here's why. I am in the pro Eli can still play camp. I admit that. I won't relitigate it but, to me, it was a false narrative he was bad last year. I think he can still play.

Here's why I'm frustrated. I made it CRYSTAL CLEAR the Giants were of a mindset that Eli can still play. It was never a question in the team's mind. Those who bash Eli and think the Giants are wrong have every right to do so. At some point you have to accept it though. Many posters on here act like Matt Lombardo and Pat Leonard(2 Eagles fans by the way) and beat a dead horse over and over and don't or can't seem to accept it. It is what is.

Now on to business.

1. We're not done in free agency. Remmers is talking to other teams. I was told If he left our building. It's unlikely he'll sign but we are interested. The Giants want to win this year and are planning to still be aggressive free agent wise.

2. I'm still hearing a trade is quite possible. Well see.

3. The Giants really believe in Jabrill Peppers. I told you he was a key to the OBJ trade. Bettcher has big plans for him.

4. Stapleton on to something. Gregg Williams D isn't a fit for Josh Allen who's a 3-4 edge rusher. He could slip and if he does. He's the guy.

Not sure what you mean by you have to accept it

What are you looking for? You want people to change their minds, or just stop discussing it?

In either case, what have the Giants done the past few years that makes you think that's a reasonable expectation?
Great stuff JT!

Thanks for providing this info - very helpful and one of the main reasons I am on this site...
If they could get Allen

even though you had me at "Pat Leonard".

It's a process and DG owes us nothing.

What were we expecting? "Eli Sucks..can't play anymore and I am targeting Drew Lock @6 or Daniel Jones @17"

“They have big plans for peppers”
OBJ_AllDay : 3/18/2019 1:05 pm : link
Translation in giants land - we won’t end up resigning him when his deal runs out.
Josh Allen
mittenedman : 3/18/2019 1:06 pm : link
still has to get past OAK and TB too, who both need Edge Rushers. And the Bucs just switched to a 34.
I can dig Josh Allen

Can the fans get some beat reporters who are actually Giants fans at best and capable of being professionally unbiased, at least?

It IS frustrating. Agree totally.

a 4-3, and few coaches change schemes at his stage of the game.
yeah
hitdog42 : 3/18/2019 1:18 pm : link
with a line and running game, he can still be fine. is that what we are striving for? why does it make you upset that people might prefer to move on from someone who needs everything right to be solid? for the ripe price of 23m a year?

you should be upset that Reese missed on his OL picks and decisions during Elis late prime. dont be upset because people arent being sentimental about the QB anymore.

Allen would be a great fit/steal for them, lets hope it happens.

as soon as Remmers left, I knew it wasn't a good sign no matter what the agent said.

He would have been a good short-term fit.

Agreed.

If the Giants think they're winning games this year, they better have another plan @ ORT... because we might as well punt the season if we're giving that job back to Wheeler.

to try to placate the cut Eli and Gettleman has no plan crowd.
To be fair, I believe they should have cut Eli after trading Beckham, and pursued Rosen. I know JonC has said NFW the Giants want Rosen. But I still think he is best, and cheapest at that, option.

Hey, all you can do is provide information and let the rest of us process it.
Allen is a pipe dream
Torrag : 3/18/2019 1:25 pm : link
He's not getting past the Jets(sticking with the 3-4) and Tampa Bay(switching to the 3-4). So stop drooling.
Sounds like a NO on Remmers I guess.
The_Boss : 3/18/2019 1:26 pm : link
Would like to think Dillard is a prime target for 17.

As for FA, I’d rather call it a day than dumpster dive for the remaining scraps. Turn our attention to our 12 picks and any potential trades that might still be on the table.

Danny Kanell : 3/18/2019 1:26 pm : link
Complete educated guess but I think the trade hint is Sterling Shepard. I saw some speculation online about the Pats for their 2nd. Sign me up.
I like it when you talk tough, jt
5BowlsSoon : 3/18/2019 1:27 pm : link
I think you are right....Eli is NOT done yet. His second half showed me that. I would prefer to have the guy in waiting for 2020 on the roster though in 2019.

I’m not holding my breath on Remmers.i don’t think his wife wants to move the family to BIG NYC. Ha

I’m okay with Wynn and or Curry, but we only have 12 million left unless we cut a guy like Ellison. I’m okay with that too.
Eli can absolutely still play
Pan-handler : 3/18/2019 1:28 pm : link
Now his game could fall off a cliff soon or a couple years but it sure didnt last year.

Eli for anyone that doesnt have a blinding bias showed late last year with just passable (not even above average protection) he can still be an effective QB. And 3 of the last 4 games in which we scored 40, 27 and 35 pts were WITHOUT ObJ.

Eli isnt a guy who has take a ton of inuries robbing him of his ability to play QB. His arm may not be as strong as it was before, but it is strong enough and he can still hit the tough routes.
Frustrated

I would be frustrated with BBI if I thought Eli was a better than average QB. I am currently frustrated with BBI and I think Eli is a less than average QB now(was great).

Sounds like we are all frustrated with BBI at this point. It is clear the Giants and DG disagree and I have come to terms with it. I know Eli will start and I will root like hell for him. I just hope we get his replacement on the roster as soon as humanly possible.
Jt, do you have any clue
Pan-handler : 3/18/2019 1:30 pm : link
If the Giants like Sweat or Greedy Williams?

I know they are really working furiously on Ferguson but I would guess #17 (not #6) for him.
I am frustrated too
giantfan2000 : 3/18/2019 1:30 pm : link
this franchise is being held hostage by an overpriced over the hill QB

The thing I don't get it Gettleman came in and has jettisoned player after player in the name of changing the poor culture of the team

and yet the one player who benched himself rather than do what the HC ordered
- just got a 5 million dollar bonus

until we move on from him - we are going to continue to have bad seasons

Eli - some of us might be quicker to accept
bluepepper : 3/18/2019 1:31 pm : link
if they weren't getting rid of literally every other guy. I mean I'll grant you Eli can still play a bit but so could JPP, Harrison, Collins and OBJ and a few other guys.
So we're using
ajr2456 : 3/18/2019 1:35 pm : link
"well that writer is an Eagle fan so of course he'll bash Eli" as an excuse?

What about the dozens of other members of the media who think Eli is finished?

The lengths some will go to defend Eli and the Giants.
My problem with Eli is that
section125 : 3/18/2019 1:36 pm : link
last year he had two golden chances to make a drive to win the game in the final two minutes and he failed miserably. Was it the Dallas game Coleman got them to the 45 yard line on the kick off and all they needed was 20/25 yards for FG range and he went 0-4 on his passes?

Yes Eli can still play given perfect conditions, but I think his days of regular final minute drives are over...
I've had a weird

premonition since early January that the Giants would draft Josh Allen (Edge). Over time it became more likely he'd be gone by then but who knows.

we all have the right to disagree on the state and decisions of the organization. just because management feels one way doesn't mean we should all get in line and think the same way

Just because the media beats you over the head with a narrative doesn't make it true. Leonard and Lombardo are hacks who push a false narrative and are anything but fair. Pay attention

Fans have the same view of other fans that they do of players. "Fall in line, don't make noise, stop complaining." That's being a 'good fan'.
Which narrative, because there's more than one.
jcn56 : 3/18/2019 1:43 pm : link
Ultimately - the one thing everyone's been beaten over the head with since 2012 is losing. The media had nothing to do with that.
Eli has held this team hostage

What's the false narrative? A large portion of the football media think Eli is done. He hasn't played well three years in a row now.

When does a "narrative" start to become the truth? And what does the writers fan allegiance have to do with anything?

Basically how I feel. Although the possibility of him entering 2020 as the starter is real, so there still is a debate to be had there. I'm a little worried that they are biased in assessing Eli and their roster and are making moves based on a bad evaluation and/or jumbled objectives. It is what it is. Nail the draft and none of that matters.
thanks JT for all the info the past few weeks - re: Daniel Jones
Eric on Li : 3/18/2019 1:50 pm : link
any thoughts on their feelings there? I've been really surprised there's not more smoke connecting the pick they got from the Browns. Seems like a real good fit for what Shurmur does and the Giants org values.
thanks jt
ryanmkeane : 3/18/2019 1:51 pm : link
the one thing I will disagree with you on is Lombardo being a hack. I think he's been relatively fair and he's not a douche type reporter than Leonard is. Lombardo - even if he is an Eagles fan - does not seem to be that way. I think he's generally fair.

Two things.

1. Allen slipping to 6 would be so fucking great.
2. From what you've heard, can we put the Rosen talk to bed?

Honestly Eli hasn't been better than replacement level in those late drives in years. Maybe not since 2012. Sure you can point to a game here or there but every decent QB in the league has their clutch moments. It's huge because that was Eli's calling card even pre-Super Bowls.
