Lost in all of this: Kevin Zeitler

ryanmkeane : 3/18/2019 2:04 pm
Let's take a deep breathe and consider that hardly anyone is talking about our new right guard. We wanted to improve the OL, not only make it better but make it a hopefully really strong unit. Well, I think with the addition of Zeitler we should have one of the better guard duos in the NFC. Hernandez played at a moderately high level last year and should only improve. Let's take a look at some of the Zeitler facts...

-former first round pick (27th) in 2012
-started all 16 games at RG as a rookie, started 71 of 72 possible games with Bengals
-just turned 29
-has played every snap since the start of the 2015 season
-is going to make 10, 10, and 12M each of the next 3 seasons, with all guaranteed money done and no dead cap starting in 2020. A fair contract for a player of his caliber

I think he gets lost in the shuffle with these past few days/week. We wanted a stud RG to pair with Hernandez. Is he the best RG in the league? No, he's not. But he's up there, and I could see him being pretty damn motivated to play well in NYG after being shipped off.
He's not the best (Z Martin)

but he's damn close and while Jamon Brown was serviceable, Zeitler is a significant upgrade.

Now get at serviceable (or better) RT and the OL should be a strength.
He's a good player

Offensive lines are like links in a chain. He's playing next to Wheeler and Halapio. One guy can only do so much.

I was hoping for some positive replies but when you put it that way...
Really good player.

Now when we Draft Cody Ford at #17 or Risner at #37 this O-Line is going to get it done...FINALLY.
It's not a negativity post. It's just how line play works.

There were times Solder made Hernandez look bad and there were times Hernandez made Solder look bad.

Weaknesses in the OL are what opposing defensive coaches spend the week planning to hammer on game day.

They did ok with Brown playing next to Wheeler and Pulley (who's apparently the worst player to ever wear Giants blue). Even if they don't upgrade either C or RT, which I highly doubt, Zeitler should be a further improvement.
has played every snap since the start of the 2015 season

So, who's starting the pool for when he goes on IR?
and all this for a guy

the Giants were going to let go anyway...

Kudos to DG for literally turning nothing into a big upgrade at Guard
He's not a right tackle!!!

waaaa waaaa waaaa waaaa!!!

DG sucks!

Is anyone discounting he's both a good player and that it was a great financial move?

I feel like that's been the consensus from the minute the trade happened.
best move

this org has done in a long time.

if he plays well into his mid 30's we have a solid piece to making this a real offensive line.
The right side should be GREATLY improved
gmen9892 : 3/18/2019 3:18 pm : link
Especially over the start of last year where this team's offense had zero rhythm. Ziegler a monster upgrade over Omamhe and a significant upgrade over Brown.

I would be SHOCKED if this team didn't address the RT spot either via FA or the draft. Regardless of who it is, I can't see a scenario where that person wouldn't be a significant upgrade over Flowers or Wheeler.
Not lost on me at all

They draft a good ORT, and some fans will be very surprised at HOW MUCH BETTER Eli looks if he has some time to throw.

The Giants may even be able to RUN RIGHT for the first time in years.
