Q: On Landon Collins, it was clear you guys were not willing to go to that price point. Why not trade him at the deadline?
A: First of all, the rumor that we were offered a first round draft pick isn’t even remotely close to being accurate. Did we have teams call in on Landon, yes. At that point in time, it wasn’t what I thought he was worth. At that point in time, we were really struggling, and what message are we sending by trading him. I didn’t think the value was there, and it’s about value, so that’s why we didn’t do it.
Same message when you traded Snacks Harrison. I get it, he didn't like the offers. Maybe they changed their mind on Collins, but again, many of us saw this coming.
"As I said, we were not actively shopping him. Calls were coming to us, and the only one I reached out to was, again, Buffalo, and I was just as much giving Brandon a hard time as anything else."
So you spoke to SF, Buff and the Browns. That's it? 3 teams when trading a player in his prime with HOF numbers? The process is broken here. I'm not picking apart the return, but the process is absurd. How did he know that was the best offer?

Really??? He's concerned about the message to a losing team that he's going to gut in the offseason? That's his reason for not trading him?
DG sounds more and more clueless every god damn day
So he won't reveal his plans? Oh he must not have a plan.He must not have any idea. Why would any GM or coach reveal any of his plans to the media and armchair coaches (fans)? He has to contend with 31 other teams. Do they announce their plans? Not if they want to be successful.
It was a shock and disappointment to lose Collins and OBJ. But let's face it. Were we winning games? No. So you make changes. Collins was not worth 14mil/ year. You let him go and get a compensation pick for him(3rd). We were not winning with OBJ despite his success. So we pick up a potential pro bowl safety at a much cheaper rate than Collins. A 1st round pick and a 3rd. Plus we switch 4th and 5th picks with Cleveland and pick up a pro bowl level OG for an overrated Vernon that we might have released.
The point is how he comes to these decisions. I noticed it last year when he said don’t take calls we’re taking Barkley. DG didn’t even call the jets about moving up to 2 to take Darnold. He makes decisions without exploring all the avenues. If you were going to trade OBJ, fine I’m not gonna cry about it but don’t give us this we weren’t actively shopping him bull crap. Put him on the block and take the best offer. Same with Collins, the best we get for a pro bowl safety is the hope of a 3rd round comp pick???? It just seems like things are being done on the fly and I’m sorry that’s not how you run a successful NFL franchise.

You don't think there is a huge difference between a 25 y/o SS and team leader and a 30 y/o NT with bad knees and possibly a questionable team attitude? (and I loved Snacks)
Perhaps post season analysis indicated the LC would not be worth that kind of money and based on what LC signed for, he was not worth $14 mill per year to the Giants.
Nah, Gettleman made it clear in the WFAN interview that he didn't think it was likely they would re-sign him. He said it would have sent the wrong message to the locker room.

The Jets said they decided to not call the Giants because they knew the Giants weren't making a deal.
And if Barkley was the guy he wanted, why would he look to trade? If the Cardinals want Murray, and I mean they think he is the guy, why would they trade the pick?
So if the 3 teams that had inquired didn't come close to the Browns in their package, what is there to call about? Teams were not going to decide willy nilly to blow the Giants away with a package and take on $75 million in contracts. He already said SF would not give up the 2nd pick. What was there to explore, further.
With this guys "plan". However I am not an NFL GM and I would have no idea what excatly is involved in the magnitude of decisions this guy has to make. I just want us to be better, he says he is making us better. We'll see. I can honestly say I dont want the guy to fail.
I do like Peppers, let's see what 17 brings us! If we come out of this thing with one of the 3/4 Pass rushers and a possible QB/starting tackle. My mind changes a whole lot.
So he won't reveal his plans? Oh he must not have a plan.He must not have any idea. Why would any GM or coach reveal any of his plans to the media and armchair coaches (fans)? .
Preach it! For years this board bashes Reese for revealing his draft picks early, now DG is dodgey and he is too secretive. People just like to bitch
...and nothing but the truth.
But not when he says Eli's isn't overpaid.
Oh, well, Gettleman has got a 2-year window to show us what he's got. If by the end of 2020 there isn't demonstrable progress, see ya Dave!

Wrong message? We were 1-7.

Why all the whining on this?
