Supposing the Giants didn't get a free agent rt and all of the college tackles are available at 17 - Taylor, Williams, Ford, Dillard, Risner and and anyone else. Who would be your choice?
I know some might have flashbacks of former Jerry Reese mid-round LB Phillip Dillard but I guarantee this dude is different.
Best pass protection OT in the draft and could potentially make Nate Solder expendable after next year. He's got a ways to go in the run game, but I find that OTs that can't hack it in pass pro in college will bust in the pro game.
His floor comp is someone like Andrus Peat. Ceiling could be Terron Armstead or Jake Matthews.
The next best would be Cody Ford. A tractor trailer of a human that can move people off the ball. Would be a better "fit" for Dave Gettleman's style even though I think Dillard is a bit better of a player.
However I wonder with DGs affinity for maulers and brute strength guys (and especially now with Barkley) if he'd prefer a power guy like Ford or Juwaan Taylor. Its rare you get a guy with both truly elite quicks and footwork AND elite power .
They usually have one at an elite level and the other at an 'OK' level.
Juwaan has the potential for both , but shows power more than consistent elite footwork technique right now. Same boat with Cody.
Dillard and Risner (a little below Dillard) show the footwork but not as much power. Risner has the added advantage of the look of a guy who could play almost anywhere on the OL capably.
I usually prefer the footwork guys because their floors are almost always higher because guys rarely get past them cleanly even if they dont maul you as much in the run game.
If we got Dillard or Risner I would be very confident of at least competent play in the run game (but not necessarily dominant)
If he goes Cody or Juwan I would hope he is correct about them being able to improve on their footwork. If they can they are home run picks for RT and maybe even LT.
Flowers is a great example of a brute strength guy you had hoped would get the footwork technique stuff but never did.
Is a bit of a lesser version of Joe Thomas. Amazing technique and footwork but lacking un the power department. I think hed struggle a bit with power rushed especially on the right side. But would be an absolute amazing LT.
We drafted in the first round last year, I’m thinking they want an above run blocking RT who can also pass protect as opposed to someone like Dillard who seems to be a superior pass protector, yet not known for outstanding run blocking.
If top edge rushers are gone before we pick at 6, except for Sweat who may be deemed too risky at 6 because of his heart murmur, and the Michigan kid, who we may have outside of top 10, then it might be wise to start making OL the strength of our team again. Choosing Jawaan Taylor at 6 should do that.
but a few offensive linemen that I like in the 3rd-5th round range are G/RT Max Scharping, OT/G Oli Udoh, and OT Trey Pipkins. Scharping hasn't allowed a sack over the past two seasons at RT but he is expected to move to G in the pros. I think he could thrive inside. Udoh is a similar player but very raw. Pipkins is very raw as well coming from Sioux Falls but he impressed during the east-west shrine. He needs a year of development but he is now projected as a possible day two pick. Pipkins makes a lot of sense for the Giants as he could be groomed behind Solder while Wheeler acts as the primary swing tackle. In 2-3 years Pipkins could replace Solder.
Is most likely to be able to be a starter successfully? This is a high pick for a RT if they're eventually going to be able to get Remmer. Do both?
Man if you want the safe pick go with the footwork /technique guys Dillard and Jonah. With Risner a tick below but more versatile.
If you want the mauler.Cody and Juwan higher upside (for RT and possibly even LT) but also higher bust potential. You could get Flowers that don't blossom (see what I did there?) or Kareem McKenzie.
but Dillard is also interesting too.
Dillard can be a superb pass blocking RT for Eli right away and then take over for Solder down the road.
Taylor fits better in the power OLine model but A) if he flops at T they don't need a G and B) he probably can't take over for Solder later on.

Taylor is the perfect fit to fill in at RT for 2-3 years then flipping over to the left side. Dillard is also a good player but he is more of a finesse LT type who needs to add more size and strength. Taylor has great size already and is the better run blocker so he would fit in perfectly next to Zeitler.
I don't know how DG feels, but if I were drafting, I'd be looking for Â
His rep is as a very good pass blocker who is not a real good run blocker. Does this fit into the Giants thinking with Barkley back there? I wouldn't mind grabbing Kaleb McGary with our 37 pick.

Dillard's arms are an half inch longer. One is being touted as the top lineman and you think the other guy's arms(about the same size) are too short? McGary is huge with a 35" vertical and the frame to get even bigger. He has a ton of experience on the right side.

Warming up to McGary... will he drop to us in the 2nd Rd?
Cody Ford or Dalton Risner are my choices
he's by far the best athlete of the tackles and is as technically sound as Jonah Williams
You've then completed the OL fix and can focus on Defense. Why chance it?
I think one of them should be there at 17 and any of the 3 would be good.
Me, I woyld go with a ER, and DL in the first round and look at maybe Cajuste, Edward, or McGary in the 2nd.

Do you mean someone like Ereck Flowers?
No projects, no guys who are just big for the sake of being big.
I don't think any of the good tackles will be left at 37. It's hard finding a player at tackle. They tend to get drafted earlier than expected.

He goes:
J. Williams
D. Risner
A. Dillard
C. Ford
In that order.
And gives then all solid mid-first round grades. I'd be good with any of them.
He does not like J. Taylor or G. Little as much. I view those later two ones Reese would be drooling over because of "potential".

Like little the least. I think hes gonna bust.

If I had to guess Ford would be the DG pick. With Juwaan close behind.

My point exactly with both Dillard and/or Jonah
Huh? If you can play LT, you can play RT...
Torrag what do you hjnk of Ford's footwork. He certainly has rhe feel of the Hog Molly type that DG would like
Look to get a starter at center this upcoming season in the 320lbs variety, and some back up guards.
You never know RE tackle.
And work on improving wheeler search cut downs for one more season.
McGary has T-Rex arms... no thank you.
It would be great to go D, D, then RT at #37 but do you want to risk that a good RT will be there?
First 3 picks should be D, D, RT but not necessarily that order.
Warming up to McGary... will he drop to us in the 2nd Rd?
