that is a lot of money to hit a baseball

sports compensation is just crazy. People that create public companies often don't make that in a lifetime.

Mike Trout still has $66.5M remaining on his current deal w/ the #Angels. Add in $430M of new guarantees, and at the end of the day, hell have a career earnings of $577.85M, the most in major American sports history.
This may erase those two years...

it's not entirely clear.

Hes a true generational player. Good for him, although it sucks he will have been exiled to the west coast his entire career.
Barring injury, he'll earn every penny

George Steinbrenner bought he Yankees with about 150K of his own money. They're worth about 8 billion now and his kids were dead last in 2018 MLB revenues vs payroll. MLB is about a 10 billion dollar yearly business and increasing. I'd rather see the guys who get people to buy tickets get the money than the guys who are selling the tickets.
The Angels have some interesting talent...
Dunedin81 : 3/19/2019 10:38 am : link
Jordan Adell could be the best prospect in baseball by the end of the year. But that Pujols contract is a millstone and their starting rotation is an abomination (and their arms consistently get hurt).

He gets there first..if Mookie comes close to repeating what he did last year to this year, look out.
I know Trout is the best player in baseball

But isnt this contract kind of risky? Doesnt kick in until after the 2020 season, so hell be 29 when it starts. So you are paying $35mm/per for his age 29-41 seasons.

I am sure hell be a solid player age 30-35, but youre basically paying him for what he was age 22-27.

Versus rotting in Philly?

The two teams have exactly won a WS once in the last 25 years..........
Any opt outs?

Philly is clearly on the rise.
Arguably the best player since Mays

Mid contract the deal will probably look decent to someone - esp with other mega deals to come - and he'll be traded if the Angels aren't contending or haven't won.

Dunedin81 : 3/19/2019 11:51 am : link
By year 5 that's not going to be an especially movable deal, especially when he moves out of CF. He's an amazing player and he'll age well, but if he's still a 6 WAR player at age 38+ it'd be a coup.

LOL, of course I was being sarcastic. However, how many more chances will he have at getting to the post season.

You guys know that I love Mookie. But, Trout is a much better player and he is only one year older than Mookie. I think Mookie comes in under Trout (but more than Harper).

Of course, I wasn't comparing Mookie to Trout, I was comparing him to Judge.

Mookie has two more seasons before FA.

Judge has four more before FA.

A lot can happen, but that was just my opinion.
If true Angels trolling Phillies....

I think Mookie is the 2nd best player in the game at this point. Not hands down but pretty clear imo. He deserves more than Harper or Machado.
You know what
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 3/19/2019 7:36 pm : link
Betts as #2 is hands down. I just respect Altuve a lot which is what held me back.

I think a healthy Judge is absolutely in the mix for #3, I really think hes ready for a special campaign.
