Interested in BBI Viewpoint Regarding Giants 1st Round

M.S. : 3/19/2019 10:41 am
Assuming the Giants take a QB at either 6 or 17, and assuming the best value at our other first round pick is equal between Edge and OT, which direction do you feel the Giants will go:

Edge?

Offensive Tackle?

Thanks in advance!

but it really illustrates the conundrum. We have broader holes with more exigent need considering what we already have decided.
edge

higher premium. Then grab an OT in round 2.

As is, I can see them using #6, 17, 37 all on D.
edge
Justlurking : 3/19/2019 10:49 am : link
they need a pass rush. They have on paper improved the OL to serviceable, and according to DG yesterday, once he fixed the line last season the offense played well. I look as Edge (and defense in general) as the biggest non-qb need on this team.
Hmm

the question has merit but that assumes all else wenta s plan. The first part is it is very difficult to assume what we did @6 if you are saying at 17 we took a QB.. Far easier guessing what we would do at 17 if 6 is a QB but still not simple of obvious.

I think we should look at what is more likely to happen in the draft besides specifically what we will do. If the Draft sees no trades in the top 5 picks and with that, no QB's selected in those 5 picks what then would be the likely scenario for the Giants? Say Williams, Bosa, Allen, White and Sweat go (arguments sake), do we take Murray here? If we don't, do we trade back or take another position player?

These debates are easier to have with possible scenarios than if we take a QB at this pick or that pick what do we do with the other pick. I think we really should look at those top 5 picks and see what is the possible outcomes there and then get a feel for what we can do at 6.

agree here as well.
Why should we assume DG takes a QB?
The_Boss : 3/19/2019 10:51 am : link
Especially when these QBís arenít very good? Even DG said yesterday heís not going to force a pick. If he takes a QB at 6, thatís exactly what heíll be guilty of doing.
Two really good football players.

I'm going to go back to what
section125 : 3/19/2019 10:57 am : link
DG and PS said that their post season presser and I will paraphrase - the defense is a mess and it needs to be fixed. I believe DG goes ER/OLB/DE with 2 of the 3 1st picks and goes OT with the 3rd.

But to play this game if they go Lock or Jones at #6 they go ER at #17 if he is highest rated on the board.

That being said, they will go ER at #6.
I'd like
Photoguy : 3/19/2019 10:57 am : link
ER at 6, LB at 17, and T at 37.
No QB and DLine and OLine in the 1st
JohnB : 3/19/2019 10:58 am : link
Guessing DLine at #6, OLine at #17 because that's the way the talent seems to be falling.

In the scenario I created, the BPA is a tie between OT and Edge. So, my question is: Which direction do you feel the Giants will go?

Ugh, can't you just play along with the scenario I created? I'm not pretending it's the scenario that will play out, but it is the one I've been thinking about and wondering which direction the Giants might go in given the circumstances. Thus my seeking the opinions of BBIers!

Bingo. According to Dave TE 22 teams this year listed Edge Rush as a high need. 22.

Sweat, Jaylon Ferguson, Burns (less size) my guess as our guys after Bosa, Q Will and Allen.

Edge given your scenario
Pascal4554 : 3/19/2019 11:17 am : link
Though I think there is a decent chance we don't pick a QB in round 1.
If OT and pass rusher
Bones : 3/19/2019 11:20 am : link
Talent available is equal at 6, they probably go defense. I think they end up going WR in 2nd round with OT and pass rush in first. No QB this year.
Edge without a doubt
Jay on the Island : 3/19/2019 11:22 am : link
There will be solid OT options in rounds 2 and 3.
honestly don't care what position
GiantsFan84 : 3/19/2019 11:26 am : link
just get really good players. can always draft a RT or sign one next year.

giants aren't winning shit this year
Edge at 6
Eman11 : 3/19/2019 11:28 am : link
Then OL and more D with 17 and 37. Whatever player has the higher grade at 17 will be the pick and IMO it doesn't matter which way they go.

Bottom line I think they go D with two of their top three picks and OL with the other.
My guess is NYG views
Gregorio : 3/19/2019 11:42 am : link
An edge rusher as a greater need than OT, and because they are equal value in this scenario, would pick the edge rusher.
I really think
Amtoft : 3/19/2019 11:48 am : link
we need a good 3-4 DE... So I am looking at Oliver and others because the draft isn't deep there. I can get some pass rushing edge players a little later and it is deep in OL.

I can see that but what do we do about WRs to play the outside?
Edge I guess
Oscar : 3/19/2019 11:50 am : link
I am leaning towards BPA with both picks, QB be damned. Team needs a successor at QB desperately but you canít force it and I donít know that any of these guys are worth it. Itís why I wanted Darnold last year.
Front end of the draft is loaded at edge and theyíll go quickly
ArlingtonMike : 3/19/2019 11:50 am : link
They should take edge at 6 and either QB (Lock) or LB at 17.
NO QB, period.
Red Dog : 3/19/2019 12:50 pm : link
Get a top line edge rusher with one of those picks, and another good - hopefully great - player with the other pick. That player could be any of several positions including OT, DT, ILB, CB, WR, maybe TE, maybe even another edge rusher.
Taking a QB would be foolish
Go Terps : 3/19/2019 12:57 pm : link
If the belief is you can win with Eli in 2019, then use your resources to build the best possible team to help him do that. Taking a QB to sit him is a waste both of a resource that can contribute immediately and of a year of that rookie contract.

Just get the QB next year.

There's no better strategy than taking the best players possible at 6 and 17.
Beyond that; DG can target need/values in later rounds.
If we don't take a QB at 6,

I sure hope we don't take one at all....
They have so many holes
MM_in_NYC : 3/19/2019 5:35 pm : link
the chances are much greater than 50% that BPA is same as a major need.

The only two definitive non-needs on this team are OG and RB.
BPA at all slots
