Next year the QB Market will be better but more competitive

larryinnewhaven : 3/19/2019 1:01 pm
While there are better QBs in next years draft the amount of teams looking for a Qb could be the highest in some time. Pats,Dolphins, steelers,Bengals,Titans,Chargers,Raiders,Broncos,Redskins,Saints,Panthers Buccaneers could all be in the QB market. This years there is just a handful. We are rolling the dice big time going into next off season with no QB plan.
Odds are

Giants will have a worse record than almost every one of those teams.
It looks better now
larryflower37 : 3/19/2019 1:06 pm : link
But injuries, drop off in Performance can change that prospective.
Giants could win 5 or 6 games thats

not going to get you in top 3.
Very true
allstarjim : 3/19/2019 1:13 pm : link
Which is why I wanted the Giants to get an extra 2020 first rounder to move up if necessary if they were going to trade OBJ. They got a 2019 first instead, so I don't get that.

However, a lot of those teams are going to be better than the Giants, and we really need to see which of those teams go QB this year, because that's going to change the equation as well.
I just made a thread on this last weekend..

Banking on a QB in 2020 is risky.
Moving up in a draft
anon837 : 3/19/2019 1:20 pm : link
is not as easy as it sounds. Sure, you can toss a boatload of picks to team. But if that team is hungry for a player and they are in the driver's seat with their draft position, good luck getting them to pick up the phone. People are talking about Tua and Fromm as if they are guaranteed to jettison their last year of eligibility and declare. Herbert went back and threw a wrench in to a lot of teams' plans. if you can snag a blue-chipper without giving up picks, make it happen.
Don't want to spend 1st round

on a middle tier NFL QB. I think that is what is available this year. Too many other needs.
the worst thing that could happen this year
Dnew15 : 3/19/2019 1:27 pm : link
is the Giants win 5-7 games.
That will ensure this never ending hole at the QB position for the foreseeable future.
Several of those teams are likely playoff teams

(Pats, Saints, Steelers, Chargers) and figure to pick behind the Giants (on paper at least).

At least 2 teams will no longer be searching for QBs, or at least not in 2020 after drafting Murray and Haskins.

I'd rather give up a boatload next year
Bill L : 3/19/2019 1:33 pm : link
then have anyone this year. And that includes giving up picks for Rosen. That would be silly and detrimental.

The same people who want just any old guy, so long as he is a fresh Qb, this year, say we will stink. So we should either be in striking range or within decent trading range. And, it's not just those 2 but there's at least Herbert and Eason as well. And I've gotta believe that there is going to be a monster DL or OT or LB or WR that teams will covet and want to pick so as to better themselves, pushing some of the QB's down. And, even with top prospects, trades do happen. It's like no one believes that a team has ever moved up to take a QB before.

Agree on need for extra first-rounder in 2020.

The only thing that changes the equation that we can control is do we plan on picking a QB this year. If we do then nothing to do relative to 2020. If we don’t then I would really be working to see about swapping that second #1 we have this year for some more pick(s) this draft and a #1 next year. Need collateral to move up as far as possible next year.

No, it isn't. Banking on a QB in 2020 is a pipe dream. If that's DG's plan he should be fired immediately.

If the Cards draft Murray one we should trade for Rosen. It makes too much sense.

Sy liked him, who am I to argue.
You also have to figure there will be around 4 QB's taken this

year as well, which will take four of those teams off the list.

Also true

That the reason so many teams are in play next year isn't just because it appears it is a much better/deeper QB class than this year. Teams like Pats/Saints/Chargers are looking for their next franchise QB. If they liked the QBs this year, they wouldn't hesitate to take one. There are a lot of things that could change between this year and the next draft. If those teams don't select a QB this year and push it off another year it speaks more to how bad they think this year is as opposed to how good they think next year is.
the giants could surprise and win 9 games

Draft a quarterback this year

And next.

Other teams have done pretty well with two good quarterbacks when it came time to move one.
