If we take a QB with our first pick......
And he plays lights out in practice and preseason, would DG have the gonads to cut Eli and save 11.5M?
If he doesn't take a QB, then Eli stays....but I hope they don't waste another pick on a qb later in the draft....
Name the last Rookie QB to play "lights out" in camp and/or preseason.
I can't think of one.
The point is that Eli will start/play until we are eliminated or he is injured. Then Alex, Kyle, or a rookie draft pick will get the call. John and Steve aren't concerned with paying $11.5M to Eli. DG has made a habit of eating dead cap hits larger than saving $11.5M.
KC was a playoff team...we will be lucky to win 5 games with this current roster...
But for a rookie to play head and shoulders above Eli is hard to foresee. The game is so complex and Eli has done it for so long, it's hard to see a rookie being able to surpass Eli by that much, that quickly.

I think Jesse Palmer had a real good pre-season just before we cut him and he went on the Bachelor...iirc
I think Eli would play until it was evident he needed to be replaced (team losing/bad QB'ing)..........
But we should be so lucky to finally have a young QB who actually looks the part ready to take over.........
He looked great handing ball off to Elliot.
Alex Smith had a really good 2017 season. Lead his team to the playoffs and made the Pro Bowl. If Eli has a similar season to that this year then I would expect the Giants to do the same as KC.

Say what you want about Dak - dude went 13-3 and went 24TDS/3INTS that year.
Pretty sure we could find a guy for 1/4 the price to turn around and hand the ball to SB with this rebuild offensive line.
Every one of those QBs ended up in the playoffs:
2016/Dak Prescott/ 13-3
2012/Russell Wilson/ 11-5
2012/Andrew Luck/ 11-5
2008/Matt Ryan/ 11-5
Shoot Andy Dalton in 2011 went 9-7 and got in as a wild card team.
Everyone one of them has been back to the playoffs.
There's a lot of ways to handle bringing in a new QB. You don't have to pay a guy $23 million to hand over the reins.
Sometimes you just got to cut bait and start over and let the new guy sink or swim...because...guess what...it's not a foregone conclusion that they are going to sink.
