Chris Snee didn't officially retire until after 2013 season. He was IR'd during Summer Camp so that he could collect the money he was owed.
We can debate on whether that was because Coughlin was his father-in-law or if it was the Giant's were just rewarding him for being an excellent Giant for his entire tenure, but they didn't have to pay him that year, and they surely could have cut him before it ever got to training camp.
On that note, this year is a year where we are eating a ton of dead cap to free up space for next offseason. Eli got his $5 million dollar bonus. If for some reason, we could trade for Rosen (I'm not advocating for it), or draft a QB of the future that's ready to play (doubtful on this option), it doesn't mean we necessarily have to stay with Eli. Eli is probably more tradeable at this point as we probably eat the bonus.
I don't think it will happen, just wanted to point out that we have paid Giants Legends for being good soldiers before, and it could possibly happen again.
Also, anything can happen next college season. Injury or just plain suckiness..
Yeah I was the one that wrote it. I figured it was a good talking point just in general.

I agree and to be honest, if we draft someone Eli will be here for the year.
Gettelmen thinks the defense will be better, line will be better, running game will be better and Eli will be better.
Time will tell.

I understand that. I'm just saying if he were to wave it, he's easier to trade after taking on that $5 Mil bonus.
Also, no one is signing him next off-season even if they go 7-9.
For all the talk from Eli of retiring a Giant - if Eli has a decent upcoming year and Giants don't want to pay him -
Eli will definitely entertain offers from other teams.. just like his brother .
with Manning family loyalty is a one way street

will probably play for a different team in 2020.
The real conundrum would be what to do if Eli has a good 2019 and the team exceeds expectations. What if they finish 9-7? And/or make the playoffs?
Extend him while also looking for his replacement. I know it is blasphemy to suggest such a practical solution afterall we will have close to $100M in cap space. But the talking heads on NFL Network/ESPN have no qualms about Big Ben or Rivers getting extended. But when it comes to Eli, he is trash. Despite Rivers never winning anything and Big Ben looking downright awful through some games dropping 5 picks in the Jags hands like a pedophile handing out candy. Watch how awesome he'll be with Brown gone.
