what the heck is DG waiting on?
Surprised
pjcas18 : 3/20/2019 8:07 am : link
Wynn hasn't signed somewhere. He's a decent veteran depth guy who can play special teams.
Shepard should be picked up
BigBlueDownTheShore : 3/20/2019 8:25 am : link
He’s a great special teamer
My only question out of that list is why
Diver_Down : 3/20/2019 8:31 am : link
Coleman hasn't signed his tender. Does he honestly think that some other team is going to sign him to an offer sheet and give up compensation to the Giants? He flamed out in Cleveland, New England, and only because we were first in the waiver order, we claimed him. With Odell gone, he should figure there is no greater opportunity for him to get his career back on track.

I wonder this too, but why not wait? does it expire? can the Giants rescind it? Does he hurt himself by waiting?

I ask out of lack of knowledge of the process, not because I have an opinion on the topic.
I like Wynn

and am surprised the Giants haven't resigned him. He's hard nosed, give it his all, humble workhorse who already knows the system. He's made some outstanding plays for us in the past and is the very definition of "solid veteran off the bench"

He is a good player but I thought I'd read there was interest from other teams. Hope we get him back.
Wynn is not a good player.

He's pretty awful actually, except for the pre-season and 1 or 2 games early this past season.

It doesn't expire, but the Giants can rescind the tender at which point he becomes an UFA. It doesn't hurt him to wait, but he won't be able to participate in OTA's until he is under contract.

Now, I don't know what level tender he was given (I'm too lazy to look it up). Different levels determine the value of the tender along with any potential compensation to the Giants in the event he is signed to an offer sheet and the Giants choose not to match.

I just don't see any better opportunity for a young player to show they can play and get their career back on track. He knows the offense and with OBJ gone, it is a safe assumption that he'll have more opportunities to get on the field.
Coleman, Shepard and Wynn would be okay. Stupar maybe

The others either have no potential or we haven’t seen enough.
Coleman was tendered
SJGiant : 3/20/2019 9:21 am : link
At the original round. I assume this means since he was (I believe) a first round draft pick, he was tendered at that round.

If that is the case, then there really is no reason why he hasn't signed the tender. No team will sign him to an offer sheet and give up a first round pick. His only legitimate option is to sign the tender and play for the Giants. Use this year as a "prove it year", and hopefully put together enough tape that he can cash in next year.

Stupar sucks! You've got to be kidding me. It takes a lot for someone who stinks to stick out on a lousy defense. And he does.

Agree, makes no sense.
He might simply be on vacation
Ten Ton Hammer : 3/20/2019 9:38 am : link
There's no upcoming deadline by which he has to sign it unless the team implements one.
Ten Ton with the best explanation
SLIM_ : 3/20/2019 9:50 am : link
It very likely is a matter of logistics. Unless his agent is a moron, he has explained to Coleman that no other team will be offering him a contract due to the original round tender. For that reason, there is little downside to signing it but I don't think there is any real upside. The tender comes with no guarantees so even if gets hurt in the offseason, they can cut him at any time.

Again, I think it is logistics but the other possibility is that the Giants like him enough that they want to offer a multi-year deal and they are awaiting other deals to work out to see how it is structured.

The only one of mild interest is Wynn. A nice versatile backup with the amount of draft picks that we have, it may be time to move on. Other people have discussed Sheppard but we do have enough 3rd-4th receiver/special teamer types.
