College guys: Will Grier as our QB of the future, IYO?

Big Blue '56 : 3/20/2019 10:28 am
Have neverseen him play, but I was curious if you believe this guy, with Pro experience, could be our future franchise guy? In other words, does he have the Pro tools?

If so, my understanding is he is projected to possibly go in the 3rd (?) round.

Throws a great deep ball

Apparently he's not so hot on the intermediate routes.

He's also pretty old for a rookie and has PED issues in the past.

I liked what I saw from him when I saw him play.
Eli was a year younger when he was drafted,

fwiw
loved Grier
GiantGrit : 3/20/2019 10:36 am : link
He did not throw well at the senior bowl or combine so his stock is kinda dropping. Depends on who you ask, i think his arm strength is fine. Loved his ball placement and moxie - definitely not afraid of the big stage. One of those guys who needs to be put into the right situation for sure.
Not good
Rjanyg : 3/20/2019 10:38 am : link
His mechanics suck and he looked inaccurate at both senior bowl and combine. Hard pass
Horrible tattoo (of a tree I think it is?) pass...
Chris684 : 3/20/2019 10:39 am : link
No just kidding.

BB56, I am generally on your side as far as believing if Shurmur likes him, I can get behind it. But I do have to admit, Lauletta's complete dud of a freshman year on and off the field has me wondering if Shurmur is the QB guru we all thought he was.
People were saying Grier didn't have enough arm strength until

he measured highest in velocity at the combine (curtesy of Our Lads). People point out that he didn't look good throwing at the Senior Bowl and the combine, but forget he had excellent numbers during the season. I think he's as good as Haskins, though not as good as Murray.
No

KL was a 4th round pick so I wouldn’t put all my stock in that. However, despite an horrific game against the Skins with a 100 point lead, I thinkwith a full year’s body of work and lumps, Shurmur’s expertise in that area would show, imo..We’ll probably never know?

As far as velocity - if you had a rep for being weak armed you would throw harder. Haskins has always shown plenty of velocity, yet had one of the lesser velocities. I don't put much stock into the velocities.
Reminds me
mittenedman : 3/20/2019 10:48 am : link
of Tony Romo. FWIW.

THAT would be worth a lot to me
I would be happy
Scott in Montreal : 3/20/2019 11:07 am : link
with either Grier or Lock as the next QB. Both are worth the #17 pick.

I only watched a few games of Grier's last season (Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Texas) but he looked solid in all of them.
Giants

Need to take advantage of one of the teams trading up to take a QB this season, they need to get their first round pick, hopefully it will be the Bengals, (since I have faith they will suck this season), then have two first rounders and two third rounders for next years draft, then get our QB in next years draft, there are three better then any this season, except for possibly Murray, but I would not use my two first rounders this season for him, I am not that confident. We have Eli another season, use this haul of draft picks to get our right tackle, build the defense, and to get a first rounder for next years draft, they do that and they hit a home run.
I think Grier in the 2nd is very interesting
UConn4523 : 3/20/2019 11:13 am : link
as the investment wouldn't be high and would truly allow him to "learn" for a year without feeling like you are wasting any time.

His velocity and overall measurables from the combine check a lot of boxes.
God no his arm talent is meh...
Torrag : 3/20/2019 11:50 am : link
...same as Jones.
Highlights show nice ball placement ability
GeofromNJ : 3/20/2019 4:46 pm : link
Not enough video to judge composure under pressure, ability to read defenses, or accuracy on the run.
Grier highlights - ( New Window )
Ok,
Big Blue '56 : 3/21/2019 3:44 pm : link
so now that Grier is supposedly “rising up the board,” perhaps we can get more posters to opine on the OP..😎
I've never been impressed with him.
