Hey Eric. We had a great dinner last night with DH. We think it's going to work out where we take him. Would you mind posting positive links about DH so we can get the base excited? I want to make sure most of the base is on board. Thanks - JM.

Bummer in the interview? Will always hate that pompous ass mariucci
Playing in a charity golf tournament years ago and on the closest to the pin contest I got within 5 feet when I wrote down my name on the card I saw Marriuchi had been the closest one at 6 feet ....I wrote my name and then in parentheses I wrote : bummer mooch ...NYG!

Right. So if we see a statement from Tisch that reads, "...Haskins had great table manners and he was brought up very well...", then that's a signal that Haskins is off the board... ;)

No, I'm not interested in any QB at #6 or #17.
However, if gun to the head and QB is the route, I'd rather take Murray over Haskins. I really have suspicions over Haskins.
Murray's height and size is a major, major concern but he's so dynamic that I think he has a chance to work.
But, again, I would rather focus elsewhere in round one.

Lol, that’s a great story

I knew you'd think that.
On a serious note, the thing that intrigues me the most about Haskins is his football intelligence. This guy has "it."
there's something about this kid. No doubt it seems like he can handle the pressure of being the NYG QB. That's almost more important than the rest of it.

I hope people caught what Mariucci tried to do. He drew up the play, but then distracted him with the small talk, then came back and asked him to repeat the chalkboard stuff. And he didn't miss anything. This kid is 21 years old!
the question remains is Gettleman OK with waiting on defense for the draft if we go Haskins at 6. Then, we lose out on the top tier guys. 17 and 37 for the defense (or perhaps OL) isn't a bad fall back plan.

Yup. I caught that as well. Side tracked him on purpose a little bit to see if he was paying attention to the board or the small talk.
getting reads from the sidelines early in the season, he didn’t later and made adjustments on his own as the season progressed. I’d be happy with Haskins at 6, and I think the issues people take up with him are mostly untrue beyond his lack of running ability.

"2018 was a disaster and the Giants will slowly sink into the depths of misery" narrative alive.
Remember, the Giants were not supposed to be able to get a QB worth a damn for years after going with Saquon last year.
Here we are a year later with Rosen most likely available again, Murray/Haskins, and 2020 sitting there which is probably the best class out of 18/19/20.
Guys still come on the show and perform poorly in both cases. Others perform well. You can't take awy too much but as fans it's another small opiece of the opinion puzzle. Haskins handled himself well and dispalyed gis football smarts. As he has so far in every circumstance I've been able to acquire video of.
Even if you want to believe he was given all of this information beforehand and was prepared for it - it still isn't easy to do in detail like that. I know I'd probably miss a couple details even if I knew he was going to ask me to do the same thing.
Nothing has led me to believe that he isn't a bright QB with a high football IQ. He's a student of the game and he is a really smart kid. He will put the work in and he has a legitimate NFL arm.
There are things I need to see him improve upon and work at - but that's what QB prospects are. Andrew Luck's aren't in drafts every year. More often than not, you're looking at guys with particular talent bases and flaws and have to make the determination as to how many flaws are coachable, how likely they are to ascend, what they likely won't improve upon, etc.
Virtually any QB we take at this point unless we're waiting for Trevor Lawrence is going to come with things the QB will need to work on and questions that need to be answered as he embarks upon his NFL journey. So, we can do that with anyone.
To me, Haskins has the most important stuff. The stuff that coaching isn't going to fix. The rest can be improved on.
I'm not saying or suggesting anything that questions Haskins's intellect. I'm raising the point that he likely knew how the session works and prepared accordingly. So the element of surprise isn't is dramatic as the clip would suggest...
you're creating your own narrative out of nothing, no evidence, or anything that suggests this clip wasn't what it was...which was them having a cool conversation about football and Haskins diagnosing a play. If Haskins knew the "setup" beforehand...who gives a shit. He clearly showed he can handle it.

Great post. Agreed on all points. Footwork isnt a guarantee to improve but it usually does if a guy wants to work at it. But even then he still is very accurate with his footwork being less than perfect (Darnold was kind of this way too)
I don't really care what he knew or didn't - I think there's plenty of evidence out there that Haskins is a smart football player who understands the game.
Murray doesn't strike me the same way.
Murray is a dynamite football player and has a higher ceiling than Haskins does - but there are going to be times where your athleticism can only carry you so far.
Haskins has it between the ears. Murray doesn't. I do think that matters.

Simple question - is it easier to look good knowing the test question in advance or having no idea what the test question is going to be?

I said this in another thread: a guy with his combination of arm talent and football intelligence is not going to fail. He may have things to work on at the next level, but I’m confident he will not fail.
...football intelligence, good personality, big body, arm strength, accuracy. I would really like to get on board with this selection...
...But I just cannot get around the lack of success by OSU QBs - and many QBs coached by Urban Meyer - in the NFL. Probably unfair to Haskins, I realize. But does this type of criticism carry any weight w NFL team scouts? At what point do they separate the player from the system/team for which they played?

Well, if this is your logic - I hope you aren't waiting for Tua because I can make the same argument for Alabama QB's.
AJ McCarron is going to be a career backup. Guys like Coker and Sims never made it.
How many PSU RB's dominated before Saquon Barkley? Were you worried about him because of that?
You HAVE to separate the player - otherwise you'll miss on a lot of really good ones.

No. I'm saying he knew that A play would discussed and he would have to memorize the play.
on Haskins are inexperience, and he wasn't allowed to diagnose/adjust, he was supposedly told by the sideline.
This kind of puts that to bed.
Where did you read that? I heard the exact opposite. Ohio State had to tweak their offense to him as the season went on as he was doing more for that team than any QB they had before like calling out the protections and seeing the defense very well.

I don't think so... My memory isn't that good and I remembered the play every part.
a likable guy. I don't know if even the creators of this video intended for anything else. This is a fairly simple play and doesn't really take into account what defense Denver was in, etc.

Honestly, I love Haskins but it would be more of a red flag he couldn't pick that up. I mean I watched it an hour ago and I still can recall the play. Not the terminology, but the actual play.

It seems difficult to a layman, but when you play QB that type of terminology becomes second language.
And your right some guys can't. That is why its a red flag to me Â
if he couldn't. Your QB generally needs above average IQ. There are notable exceptions to this rule, but it isn't the norm. Generally the exceptions cruise on their superior athletic ability or arm talent.
Of course he's prepped for the segment and ready for the camera. That's a given -- and yet we've seen plenty of guys come off poorly in similar gimmicks.
The impressive part is retaining, relaying, and understanding naturally. The less the mind commands of the brain, the more it can steer the body.
It's a good exercise -- as far as I know the Giants will still be giving the quarterbacks the plays before the games start -- so I'm not worried if he was prepped.
Haskins is a really bright kid. I think he'd absolutely love being a Giant - and I'd be quite happy if he landed here.

I don't really want a QB at #6 and don't want to spend both first rounders to move up.
Get me pass rush. I would consider a QB with a later pick. Maybe we luck out.
My gut is telling me that the next generation of QBs will need to be able to do some damage with their feet.
But NYG knows better then me....

Just curious.

Where is the shot? I was merely point out the segment by Mooch is something any QB could easily prepare for b/c he's been doing it for a while now.
Sort of a knock-off of what Gruden did on ESPN.

He's having a veryy good Draft prep 'season'.
This kind of puts that to bed.
HE called all the protections for Ohio State, audible adjustments from sideline is the norm in college, not the exception.
