To me he's the most polished and also has a really nice set of athletic tools to work with. If he was a little taller he'd be getting a lot more 1st round attention imo. I think he has that level of talent.
That's fine. I think Parris is smoother in and out of his breaks and is a more versatile route runner. I believe he had the better senior season and will be the better pro. Time will tell.

Wait a minute, you have friends?
With how DG wants to build this football team it wouldn't suprise me
Like an NFL QB. Arm talent and head talent will take you places and he has plenty of both. The more I see the more I like. Up close he looks much quicker footwork wise and overall in the pocket.

I thought you were going to nitpick that he was hitting guys too flush in the hands so they weren't able to quickly pump their arms to get up to speed after the catch....
remember the panic after Eli Manning's first mini-camp when his first pass was nowhere near his target. If I recall correctly, his first practice was a disaster.
I only bring this up in that I can't imagine the type of pressure are on these guys at their Pro Day workouts. Everything is noticed.
Personally, I thought he did very well from what I saw (again, I didn't see every snap...sometimes the camera lost track of the ball).
Talking about how he wants to show how smart he is, how charismatic he is, the leader he can be. The guy just has the it factor you look for in QB similar to Mayfield. Arm talent plus gets it mentally.
Honestly I wanted a more mobile QB because that is where the game is moving. However, if you can be extremely accurate in the short, intermediate game there is definitely a spot for pocket passers in the NFL.
I hope PS whispered that he needs to get his butt in better shape.
I defer the throwing critique to the experts, but he came across very well in the NFLN interview. Well spoken and he seems to have his head on straight. A year with Eli and he could be ok... but stay away from the donuts.

Yeah - I could see a tendency there to morph into Byron Leftwich on the Donut Express!!
he checks all the boxes. Can say with first hand experience he's a smart kid, works hard, leader type, absolutely fits the bill of a franchise QB in that regard
Could certainly nitpick things on the field. Of course he had a lot of talent around him, he's a solid but not elite athlete, and he is inexperienced. He's not a perfect prospect. But he has a lot of arm talent to work with and the mental game is top notch.
Loves? No - but he's my favorite QB in this class, and the guy I think is the best bet. Doesn't mean I would move up to 1 for him or empty out my draft capital when I know there will be a tremendous defensive player available.
The Bridgewater stuff is just total nonsense.
bw wants Ryan Finley.. a guy who is destined to be holding a clipboard for as long as he's in the league or would prefer we trade for Jeff Driskel so he can do the same thing.
Really swinging for the fences with guys like those...
Murrays and Haskins pro days... Murray was sweating also so that is normal. He did look a little more tired with his hands on his hips, but it didn't affect him at all. Feet good, hips good, movement good, etc He threw great and unlike Murray he was making throws on the run, rolling out more, etc. Probably because Murray doesn't need to show that. I will say this in watching both QBs even though I would take Murray, Haskins is a much better thrower. His deeps balls were by far better imo.
If he is there at 6, he will be the selection. His arm talent was on display today. His lack of experience is the only knock... He is going to be a good one.
the biggest red flag about Haskins is his lack of games as a starter.
But he's about the only QB I'd want to draft this year (outside of a 4th round developmental guy)
This is me exactly... If he had at least one more year starting ... Well he would probably be the number 1 pick in the draft. Still though lack of experience scares me.
He was 45-50 with 4 receiver drops and he was 14-15 in the red zone.
That is also with way more movement than you see in other workouts. It was also without top WR Paris who slipped early in the work out.
You're kidding, right? Movement is a big part of almost all QB prospects. Did you see the workouts last year by Darnold, Rosen and Allen. Darnold, in particular, was outside in the rain rolling left and right...
That shocks me honestly... He looked leaner to me and I figure they would have worked on it.
Not really. He said in the interview he's continuing to lose some weight and all the interested teams will have in for private workouts where they can time him.
to no-way-he-lasts until 6. Damn. I really want to see this kid in blue. But I think we would need to move up some to get him. Utterly impressed by his poise, composure, and accuracy today.

1. A+ arm talent
2. MLB pitcher with every pitch in the bag. Drive throws, touch, timing & anticipation.
3. Game/Arm talent fits old school systems
DH is the classic drop back passer who has dominated the league the past 30 years
They just started the damn pro day. They still have to test ALL of the players on the 40, vertical, etc...
I just asked a question.
Quote:
40-yard dash
In a bit of a surprise, the only Buckeye to run the 40 was Malcolm Pridgeon and we wont get official 40 times from the event. Despite Dwayne Haskins saying that hed re-do his Combine performance, it appears that he and the receivers who all clocked excellent times will stick by what they did in Indy.

No I admit I didn't see Darnold or Rosen because I am a Pac-12 Cal fan so I have seen so many of their games. I don't normally watch Pro Day work outs except for Cals because it is a glorified practice, but I this year I wanted to see Murray's and he barely moved compared to Haskins. In fact they said Haskins did more movement passes to show he was working hard at his movement and throwing on the run and avoiding the rush. If this is standard then that is my mistake.

Nothing more I need to see physically from Dwayne Haskins. He has what I would want if I needed a QB. Will be talking to him on #NFLLive coming up shortly....
Throwing technique and footwork was excellent. He is a pocket QB that can move in the pocket when necessary.
His interview was so much more at ease than Murray.
Important to Shurmur in his meeting last night is football IQ of Haskins versus Murray,
Those Ohio State Wrs are impressive. Either one of those 3 would look great in Giant blue.
That shocks me honestly... He looked leaner to me and I figure they would have worked on it.
Not really. He said in the interview he's continuing to lose some weight and all the interested teams will have in for private workouts where they can time him.
That makes sense... he looks leaner to me than at the combine.
Everyone watched Darnold's pro day last year and afterwards, the consensus was he was there was no way the Browns weren't going to take him. He was the sure fire number 1 pick.
If there is a team out there that wants to jump in front of the Giants to get him and the Cards take Murray, that means another one of the top defenders drops a spot.
RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: I have it NFLN on in my office...
I have no problem with bw - I disagree with him a lot, but it's not personal, we bust eachother's balls. It is what it is.
He's like a fly on shit when it comes to Haskins and making sure there's a way to debunk every single area where he's being looked at in a positive light - so, there's that. :)

Sign me up. Only Murray dropping to 6 would change that.
RE: Who would be realistic competition for Haskins?
Amazing what they can do when there's no defense on the field.
It's about ball placement, mechanics, platform throws, etc.
Yes, QB's have had poor pro days or not hit on a lot of their throws.
I hadn't watched many of them for most of Eli's career, because I knew we weren't looking at QB's at all then. But there have been poor pro days.
They're obviously set up so the QB can showcase his best throwing attributes - but for guys who struggle with certain routes/ball placements, you'll usually see that rear its head.
Due to his lack of experience, I can see him sitting behind Eli for 2 years and learning everything, like Aaron Rodgers.
You don't sit a QB for two years. That is a terrible waste of rookie contract in the current CBA. If we draft Haskins this year is Eli's swan song. And honestly if we catch Shurmur mouthing throw the ball again he won't make it through the full year.
Amazing what they can do when there's no defense on the field.
Teddy Bridgewater is a QB I remember having a terrible pro day. And he slipped because of it.
Still went in the first round - last pick. Hard to ever know what the true impact was.
But his pro day was absolutely atrocious. Although I was fond of him because of his movement, Lamar Jackson's wasn't that special. He was just so lackadaisical and chill. Seemed to be really just going through the motions...

Haskins mentioned "Good food". That's a red flag.
Interesting draft changes at the top if the Raiders took Haskins. Makes sense with the Dolphins and Redskins interest.
RE: Anyone remember how giddy Tommy C was around Eli in the draft process
but I think his preference for working with vets and a top of the draft stocked with defensive playmakers prevents them from taking a QB
I remember watching Gruden do his QB Camp show on ESPN when Carr was a draft prospect. He was effusive with praise about Carr and it seemed genuine. So I think he likes what he has there, but needs to add better support...
It's not just me right? Like even the body language and everything when they are talking seems to be like this is the guy I want to work with and stake my career.
I've heard we had the whole army out to watch that day as well. Can anyone say from their observation how Shurmer/Shula/Gettleman's body language/non-verbals looked after watching that one? Or even at Darnold's?
I am just curious if we have a point of comparison from last year.

Yeh I'm getting fucking excited watching them cavort. It just feels like this it, the next face of the franchise, and I'm all aboard. Mayfield was my guy last year, but I knew that was never happening, this year it is Haskins. I like Murray, but something about his attitude/IQ tells me he's missing that unquantifiable it. Will flash based on his talent and athletic ability, but never gets over that hump.
On the flipside, Haskins screams to me can't miss prospect. He is the type of QB that college hasn't been producing. Guys that can really on their legs tend to use it as a crutch and never progress like they should. Even when Haskins can run he doesn't. He wants to throw the ball.
Problem is, you just never know. I've seen too many "can't miss" guys miss. You do the best you can do.
The issues with Haskins are obvious... he's only played in a handful of games. He had a great team around him including a great OL. That makes things easier.

I don't think that OL was great at all. Go watch the vs Penn State or Michigan or TCU etc. He had a ton of pressure against him all season. In fact he faced 6 of the top 51 Def this year throwing for like 1900+ yards 19 TDs and 2 Int which one was a tip ball of the WRs hands.
Probably the Jets at 3 would be the spot to move to?
We can match any package they can put together unless they give up like 3 number 1s.
If the Redskins or another team offered next years 2020 1st in addition to this years 1st I could see them topping the Giants. I dont see DG spending 2020 picks.

Can't Miss determined by who? With the attitude, IQ, and arm talent the guy has its hard not seeing him be a starting NFL QB in this league. Maybe he never becomes a special QB I can buy that, I'm just not seeing how he isn't going to be an average starting NFL QB for the majority of his career.

That is a pretty big move up... I don't think they do that especially after RG3 cost them many years. They got lucky that year also drafting Cousins.

Our 6 + 17 has a higher worth than Redksins 1st this year and next.

It wouldn't cost that much... it would cost probably our 2nd this year and 2nd next year... still don't think we move up unless it is a 3rd or less.

I watched Rosen's and Darnold's
Rosen was like watching the making of "How to Play QB" video. He was expected to look good and he did. It was outside at UCLA. Did a lot of play-action stuff with rollouts to both sides. Looked like a natural doing it. Frankly, I don't recall seeing any of the brass...
I don't see the Giants giving up both their #1s for Haskins.
I think your're right. I think they really like Cody Ford in that spot. However, if he's the guy, he's the guy and we know DG comes from the Accorsi school. You give up what you have to when you've identified him.

They were there. In fact they had a private workout with him prior to the pro day.
I could probably list 100 players off of the top of my head who were supposed to be "can't miss".
Sure by other people. I don't take stock into how other people rate can't miss, mostly cause I believe it is a super overused word. If you aren't hitting over 80 percent on your own personal can't miss prospects I think you are overusing that word.
I don't see the Giants giving up both their #1s for Haskins.

Just look at last year... to move from 6 to 4 or 3 won't cost nearly what you are talking.
They were there. In fact they had a private workout with him prior to the pro day.
I don't doubt it. I just don't remember seeing them. I remember seeing some old guy there for the Pats. For a second, I thought it was Ernie Adams, their PM for Belichick's special needs. But I don't think it was. Made sense, because there was talk that the Pats were very interested and might trade up...
They went from 6 to 3 in a QB heavy draft... that means you pay more. Won't cost that much this year.
Teams always overpay to move up for QB, doesn't matter if it is QB heavy draft or not. This year is a bit different because there are less teams looking and if it costs us anymore than 17 or two seconds we should pass. Mostly because the other teams looking to trade up or so far down in draft position it would take a severe overpay for them to get there.
No... Someone mentioned he was still getting in even better shape after coming into the combine to big. Said he will run for teams at their visits if they want him too.
don't see the Giants moving up for Haskins, except maybe to #5. The cost would be tremendous, and we have so many other holes. But that workout was incredible, and I think increases the chance the Giants would take him at #6.
I have the same concerns that have already been mentioned, namely that he has started so few games, frequently had all day to throw, and isn't particularly mobile. But the enormous contingent of Giants and their constant attention do seem to indicate that he's the favorite at #6.

Not to defend arc here, but he has been very adamant that he is not a Haskins guy. Who would have thunk that, someone with an unbiased opinion.
arc loves Haskins. Don't let him fool you.

Nice day for @OhioStateFB QB Dwayne Haskins at his Pro Day. Big arm as expected, good footwork/movement in/out of pocket, too @NFLDraft
Could certainly nitpick things on the field. Of course he had a lot of talent around him, he's a solid but not elite athlete, and he is inexperienced. He's not a perfect prospect. But he has a lot of arm talent to work with and the mental game is top notch.
Rosen has a better stroke mechanically. But they both throw very catchable balls.
The Bridgewater stuff is just total nonsense.
bw wants Ryan Finley.. a guy who is destined to be holding a clipboard for as long as he's in the league or would prefer we trade for Jeff Driskel so he can do the same thing.
Really swinging for the fences with guys like those...
He's a very bright coach.
But he's about the only QB I'd want to draft this year (outside of a 4th round developmental guy)
This is me exactly... If he had at least one more year starting ... Well he would probably be the number 1 pick in the draft. Still though lack of experience scares me.
Very possible.
That is also with way more movement than you see in other workouts. It was also without top WR Paris who slipped early in the work out.
Skipped it.
Quote:
Or did he skip it?
Skipped it.
That shocks me honestly... He looked leaner to me and I figure they would have worked on it.

He was 45-50 with 4 receiver drops and he was 14-15 in the red zone.

You're kidding, right? Movement is a big part of almost all QB prospects. Did you see the workouts last year by Darnold, Rosen and Allen. Darnold, in particular, was outside in the rain rolling left and right...

Not really. He said in the interview he's continuing to lose some weight and all the interested teams will have in for private workouts where they can time him.
Also said he put a ton of work in on throwing on the move, moving to his left, etc. this offseason.
That rollout throw to his weak side down the left sideline was tremendous. That's a big boy NFL throw - only the WR has a shot at that ball.
And you would be wrong.
I just asked a question.

Thoughts on @dh_simba7 Pro Day workout..

His interview was so much more at ease than Murray.
Important to Shurmur in his meeting last night is football IQ of Haskins versus Murray,
Those Ohio State Wrs are impressive. Either one of those 3 would look great in Giant blue.

FMiC is right about BW. Holy shit, he is such a tool.
I've known Eric for a while. We used to watch games together. So he knows I'm busting his chops.
Nope, Murray is a lock for the offense their new coach is going to run.
one thing that hasnt changed...his ball placement is REALLY good
If there is a team out there that wants to jump in front of the Giants to get him and the Cards take Murray, that means another one of the top defenders drops a spot.

bw is very knowledgeable, has been around forever, and knows football. He knows Pac-12 better than most really.
He's like a fly on shit when it comes to Haskins and making sure there's a way to debunk every single area where he's being looked at in a positive light - so, there's that. :)
But I got nothing against him.

Yup
All with the exception of Cincy brought in a veteran, but doesn't mean they couldn't make a move to draft the future.
I'm inclined to believe Miami and Denver wait it out until 2020.
Washington I have no idea.
Cincy is rumored to like Haskins with the Red Rocket firing blanks.
The good thing is, if NYG likes DH, due to the quantity and quality of their picks, they would be hard to match in terms of making an offer.
To be fair, people were hyperventilating over Sam Darnold throwing in the rain last year

Sign me up. Only Murray dropping to 6 would change that.

Miami is supposedly all in on the tank.
Denver and Elway reportedly like Lock, though who knows if they're even interested after acquiring Flacco.
Kind of came to fruition.
Teddy Bridgewater is a QB I remember having a terrible pro day. And he slipped because of it.

Raiders, Redskins, and Dolphins all potential to steal him.
Can you imagine if the Giants want Haskins and get blocked by the Redskins who trade up and grab him instead?
Might need to go to move up if the Giants see him as a franchise guy.
I could see good ole TC making a play for him. Yes he signed Foles, but that would not stop him if he saw a franchise guy imo.
This guy seems perfect for a heavy run team that wants to run play action while taking some shots down field.

One thing about the Skins, they are desperate for a QB with Smith likely never playing again. Keenum is nothing but a stop-gap.
This is a brilliant strategic move. Nice smokescreen!

Haskins mentioned "Good food". That's a red flag.
I have a hard time seeing the Raiders moving on from Carr at this point and Chucky's reputation is to rehab veterans more than it is develop rookies.
Cincinnati could be a dark horse.
Miami ultimately waits for 2020.

Interesting draft changes at the top if the Raiders took Haskins. Makes sense with the Dolphins and Redskins interest.
Why?
Definitely a nice relationship there.
I am just curious if we have a point of comparison from last year.
I am just curious if we have a point of comparison from last year.
I didn't see it.
The issues with Haskins are obvious... he's only played in a handful of games. He had a great team around him including a great OL. That makes things easier.
I think by Darnolds pro day in the rain the Giants were already comfortable with SB and the thinking was Darnold was going to the Browns.

Quote:
We can match any package they can put together unless they give up like 3 number 1s.

I am just curious if we have a point of comparison from last year.
I would hope not, given the defensive needs.
I think your're right. I think they really like Cody Ford in that spot. However, if he's the guy, he's the guy and we know DG comes from the Accorsi school. You give up what you have to when you've identified him.
Quote:
I've heard we had the whole army out to watch that day as well. Can anyone say from their observation how Shurmer/Shula/Gettleman's body language/non-verbals looked after watching that one? Or even at Darnold's?

They were there. In fact they had a private workout with him prior to the pro day.
Sure by other people. I don't take stock into how other people rate can't miss, mostly cause I believe it is a super overused word. If you aren't hitting over 80 percent on your own personal can't miss prospects I think you are overusing that word.

Quote:

Teams always overpay to move up for QB, doesn't matter if it is QB heavy draft or not. This year is a bit different because there are less teams looking and if it costs us anymore than 17 or two seconds we should pass. Mostly because the other teams looking to trade up or so far down in draft position it would take a severe overpay for them to get there.
No... Someone mentioned he was still getting in even better shape after coming into the combine to big. Said he will run for teams at their visits if they want him too.
No, neither did most of the other OSU players

To move from 6 to 3 we would be dealing with the same team that made that exact move last year, they aren't taking less than what they had to give up.

I'm not surprised. That looked like a very slow field.

You take what you can get. If they truly want to move then you can't get what you can't get.
I have the same concerns that have already been mentioned, namely that he has started so few games, frequently had all day to throw, and isn't particularly mobile. But the enormous contingent of Giants and their constant attention do seem to indicate that he's the favorite at #6.
