Quinnen Williams = best DT prospect since A Donald

Pork Chop : 3/20/2019 12:46 pm
I really like Kollmann's videos, he gushes for 12 minutes about Williams

"When you get the chance to draft a unicorn, don't over think it. Turn in the card and look up to the football gods and say two words. Thank you."
Built by Bama - ( New Window )
He is the closest 'Saquon' in this years draft
Pan-handler : 3/20/2019 12:49 pm : link
In terms of rare skill at another position.

Size, meaurables and tremendous production when he got playing time.
We've recently seen that there's huge value
81_Great_Dane : 3/20/2019 12:53 pm : link
in a penetrating DT. Penetration and pressure up the middle is hugely disruptive of almost everything the offense will try to do.

Yet the Giants have moved to a base 3-4 concept where the NT and DEs are mostly meant to eat blockers and free up the linebackers to rush and tackle. Williams isn't an ideal fit for that scheme. He's not a 3-4 NT or DE.

If it were me, and I could get a guy with that kind of talent, I'd rethink the base scheme to find a way to use him. Would Bettcher and the Giants think that way?
Unless we trade up

He will be long gone and I donít see us doing that for someone who doesnít fit in our scheme.
Agreed

and also seems to be an all around good kid. I wish he'd fall to six but I don't see it happening.
I trust Brett Kollman review

He's phenomenal, and does remind me of Aaron Donald when watching him. Eats double teams and still finds a way to get leverage to preasure QB. 21 years old, 6'4 295...in my mind him and Bosa are a tick above the rest, 1a and 1b.

that video breakdown was impressive.
Where would he play in Bettchers D to

This is only in a traditional 2-gap 3-4, lots of teams run a 1-gap where penetrating DL are valuable. Based on Betcher's love of hybrid players/creative blitzes, I am betting he would love a player like Williams.

That's not our defense, it's a one gap 3-4. It's an attacking front, their primary responsibility is not to free up blockers it is to penetrate the interior gaps. The pass rush in this defense is not just coming from the Edge and LBs. Q fits perfectly.

Yes, he can play 3-4 DE. And did so at Alabama.
So would you trade 6 and 17
jeff57 : 3/20/2019 1:11 pm : link
to move up to 2 to take him?
He's scheme diverse
allstarjim : 3/20/2019 1:11 pm : link
You line him up and let him go. System fit is not a concern with Williams.

That said, we have no shot at him at #6. It just isn't going to happen. I said elsewhere I wouldn't be upset with a trade up for him, but with a pressing QB need on the horizon, it is probably not the wisest allocation of assets.

Would love to see him on our DL, though. Transforms the defense immediately.

Kollmann's videos are really well done, I learn a lot about the players and the game by watching them. He does a lot of NFL in-season stuff in addition to college player analysis.
My dream scenario would be the Giants
kelsto811 : 3/20/2019 1:14 pm : link
Drafting Quinnen Williams and then trading for Rosen (or drafting Haskins) all while keeping #17 this year and next years first.

Does anyone see a scenario where something like that could possibly happen?
This is the guy to get in this draft

We're not getting him. Why wouldn't the Jets take him at 3?

If Murray goes 1, you can basically write in Bosa to the Niners. Do the Jets pass on Allen?

There is a scenario where 2 QBs go Top 5 and the Raiders or Bucs get weird. I wouldn't completely write off a guy like Allen or QW falling, it could happen.
We'd have to trade up to 2
BP in Delray : 3/20/2019 1:20 pm : link
and it would take the 17.

I'd probably do that.

Trade up from 6 to 3 cost the Jets 3 2nd round picks.

Could trade Shep for an additional 2nd potentially to Pats if Rumors are true.

Though if we got Rosen we may not need next years #1 for the most important thing which would be QB.

Using the trade value chart:

2nd overall- 2,600pts

For

6th overall- 1,600pts
17th overall- 950pts

2600 pts for 2,550 pts

If anything, 49ers may ask for a 5th if they were willing to trade in the first place.

...or if it gets to Oakland's pick and we find that Quinnen Williams is still om the board, I wonder if Gruden would be interested in something involving 6th overall + Shepherd.
I'm not trading my two first round picks.
Brown Recluse : 3/20/2019 2:08 pm : link
They should come out of the 1st round with two great players at 6 and 17.

I don't care how good Williams is, he's not worth that.

He is the best player in this draft. However, I think the only way trade up in 2019 is if a QB is the target.
and how

well do Bama Defensive players fare after they've been drafted?

How well do Penn State RB's fare after they've been drafted? The one we got seems fine.
I don't think he is dropping to the 6th..
chuckydee9 : 3/20/2019 2:56 pm : link
Hey may drop to 5th at worse as there are 2 QBs (Murray & Haskins)and then 2 top tier players (Q Williams and Nick Bosa) plus another (Josh Allen) who is close enough to the top 2.. We are then left to choose the best of the rest.. There is probably slim to no chance we get Q Williams unless something bad comes out about the guy.. That said if he is there you run as fast as you can..
Ki Jana carter

was fine pre-injury as well.

Since you want to deflect rather then discuss the trend, sure why not.
As great as A Donald is and has been
90.Cal : 3/20/2019 3:23 pm : link
He wasnt exactly this great generational type of prospect. There was huge concern about his size (which seems silly now). With that said, Quinnen is probably truly the best DT prospect since Ndamukong Suh.

Heres my offer:

#6 and Evan Engram for #4.

Not sweet enough? Throw in the Shep.

It's a long shot, but if the Cards go for Murray, the Niners for Bosa
Ira : 3/20/2019 5:11 pm : link
and the Jets trade with the Skins who take Haskins, then we need to trade up with the Raiders. Great video btw.
Justin Smith was the only defender

I felt uncomfortable watching the Giants play against. QWill could fill that role.
