Gettlemans Got this

Gettledogman : 3/20/2019 1:26 pm
Rejoined and happy again with direction of team also Formerly known as Coughlin's rules

First what a lot of blue flamers don't recognize is the QB has had zero margin for error the last few years. Zero run game and Zero time infact almost a full second less than QB avg to to drop back let alone hold onto the ball and survey the field. Eli is smart and read the D Schumer learned that real quick and adjusted. Another year with a sturdier line and Saquaon will be fun. Next year will be a QB friendly draft. So relax Eli's got this. Watch the last 6 games. He can still make all the throws. So what he has a headscratcher every now and then he is a winner and money w game on the line especially in playoffs.

Second He is clearly rebuilding the character of this team while rebuilding the talent. I loved and hated ODB. In fact it was hard to watch this team because I didnt like any of the players -they were non performing talkers and now they are gone..

Third did you watch what happened to the team at the end of the year -they started playing like a team and were competitive.

Fourth Schumer can coach, hes no Coughlin but I like his approach. He has a good read on offense and with Getts behind him will bring in and coach up talent. See what happened in Minnesota w/o a QB btw.

Fifth I loved the last draft.. Now build the D into a monster Bettcher -See AZ - can we can make a run. Dont forget Eli in the playoffs can be magical. Ask Belicheck. Getts knows football talent he is not going to F it up. Enjoy it.

Is Schumer related to Chris Collingsworth or Steve Spagnola?

can we do something about these Dave Gettleman dupes? :)

I've never seen such enthusiasm towards a GM coming off a 5-11 season with a 38 year old QB who just traded one of the most talented players I've seen on the Giants.

I mean you can explain a lot of these facts away individually and make an argument for a balanced and patient assessment but jesus with these daily Gettleman cheerleader threads.

So is the Haterade around here
The team is headed in the right direction
Gettledogman : 3/20/2019 2:24 pm : link
after 5 years of ineptitude by the front office we finally are going to be adding the right players. I love the Soldier add, the Zeitler trade, the release of the SS, The addition of Golden Tate, and yes the OBD trade and so on -adding football players -STFU and play tough minded players.

ODB was super talented but immature, not so mentally tough, easily baited and flakey great personality nice dude but he had to go.. The Giants should have nipped this in the bud but undercut Coughlin stupidly and paid for it. Same thing with Shockey -you stop that shit right away otherwise it just grows.. but FO was weak. Not anymore.. GM unafraid.. its what you want. He's in charge.
Again, what's funny about the "haterade"
NoGainDayne : 3/20/2019 2:37 pm : link
we've all been sitting in a house with piles of shit for the last number of years. Some of us are like this smell has really sunk into the carpet, it stinks.

Others are like hey it's not so bad! We cleaned up the shit!

Somehow the people that still smell shit are talked about in the same way as the people pretending it doesn't smell like shit, as if there are two equal sides.

We have a select group of posters who have decided every decision made is absolutely terrible. Sorry but that is BS.

I see very few Dave Gettleman apologists around. I see objective posts pointing out its been a mixed bag, but i don't see anyone defending every single move he has made. I like him but i admit last free agency was not good. I do see people ripping every move. That is silly.

Anyone

That knocks Coughlin, is clueless to how the Giants had their success recently. It was him and Accorsi that put together the talent and attitude needed to win. Now Gettleman and Shurmur are on the clock.
I have gone through this and said I supported the Zeitler move
NoGainDayne : 3/20/2019 3:21 pm : link
and Golden / Bethea are solid signings.

But when you start getting into someone like Tate someone that might not be part of the teams future you start to say how much are we actually just taking this moves in isolation vs. having a cohesive strategy like say maximizing our wins over the next 10 years?

I don't think we are thinking about that and we should. The hit rate on pro bowl players is about 50% at 1-4 and about half of that at 14-25.

Especially with Barkely on our team our window to compete is very tight.

The fact is unless we make the playoffs this year we really haven't done ourselves any favors. To wit:

If we just miss the playoffs it's going to cost a lot of resources to find our next QB or we will go another year not having one.

Now let's say we really miss the playoffs say another 5-11 season.

Would you rather watch us sign a bunch of veterans not really compete and have a bunch of stuff shoved down our throat about being able to rebuild on the fly?

OR

Would you rather have TWO shots at taking a franchise QB and one additional star getting a high choice.

Look at the Jets, they will have Darnold entering his 2nd season and maybe Q Williams or Bosa. And guess what Darnold either convinces them he's the QB of the future or they snag another one, basically they have two coin flips and a decidedly higher chance of getting a pro bowl QB.

That's why game theory is important, game theory is your friend. The Jets are playing the odds of the 10 year success game way better than us.

For me if Gettleman makes the playoffs this year and/or manages to grab a franchise QB good for him. Ticker tape parade all the glory. But it doesn't mean he's played the probabilities right, that's what I feel like people don't understand or don't have a good argument for our approach right now.

This is fair. I just dont see OMG we have a washed up QB. Build the car first with the driver you have then find a good driver to take over. The Car is being rebuilt as we speak. As to the Tate signing -i love it he is gritty and a great locker room guy who balls and will set the example for all the youngsters coming aboard or who are already here -looking at you Shep.

You are just responding to a single comment. I backed up my claim more than you are yours. Part of 7 championship teams, no nonsense, blah blah blah

Im talking about looking at the bigger picture not just convincing yourself you are a season away constantly.
I don't get it
Giants_Rock : 3/20/2019 11:33 pm : link
We won one of our last four games
without Odell. The one game we won was against a team that was horrible the second half of the season. We even got shut out by the Titans. Why do people think that's reason for optimism?
