Gettleman's history with drafting and cutting WRs:
Mar 2014: Gettleman cuts Steve Smith, 2014 he uses 1st round pick on WR
2014-2017: Gettleman drafts 3 WR: with a 1st round pick and 2 high #2s
The counterpoint:
Evan Engram was very productive with OBJ absent especially with Shurmur figuring out better ways to utilize him. I think Giants were quite encouraged by how the offense still functioned well without OBJ (27,40,and 35 pts 3 out of last 4 games). Tate was signed to big money. This is Saquon's team now so he'll be getting lots of touches running and receiving.
This draft while arguably not having one bona-fide blue chip receiver is stacked with red-chip guys. Some argue there will be good value all the way to mid-late round 4. That's impressive.
The counter -counter point:
What if we trade Shep for a late second or something close to that? (the rumor with the Pats) Because Sheps game is somewhat redundant to Tates in order to draft a WR more complementary to Tate? At that point that late second pick could go to someone you are particularly high on.
Hakeem is ridiculous.....My favorite WR as a fit to this team. Obliterates CBs in the Run game. Tall guy that gets seperation like Plax who Eli was very, very good with. Like Parris Campbell right after him at my #2.
Hakeem Butler is a very big man.
It would be hard to go WR at 17 if we go Haskins at 6. Now if we go ER or CB at 6 then maybe.
I could see ER or CB at 17 and then OT at 37. With WR being a shot at 37 we trade Shep.

LOl I'd figured ;)
Do you think we go Haskins at 6, Jon?
Interesting. Big bodies , I could definitely see it as I could going QB at #6. Or QB and then a bunch of trench guys after.
Hakeem Butler is in the 20's.
Hakeem Butler is in the 20's.
Love his catch ability but he has great trouble separating from coverage. Guys like that usually are not as productive int the pros.
I'm wondering if the Giants think Haskins might be there at 17.

Dont see it at 17. Too many teams in between that need a QB or could trade up before 17.

And I think he's like my 15th overall player, so yeah, taking him at 17 would be good value, IMO.

It's the only thing he really lacks and while I agree it's a concern, it's not deal-breaking. Michael Thomas had trouble separating from corners as well.

No it wasnt nearly at the level of Harry. Harry right now wins with physicality and excellent positioning to catch the ball. But the dude rarely gets seperation at all. Way too easy a cover and NFL CBs techniques and ball skills are so much better.
How did he fare against CBs that many consider will be playing on Sundays?
The defense will be fine as is...
Agree. All the smoke surrounding Haskin's and the Giants is diagnostic of very little.
What is diagnostic is the Giants had an anemic pass rush last year. They just traded their best pass rusher. They have not filled that whole. Getting the to the QB is key to winning. Conclusion, Pass rusher is a priority
Second, they are all in on Eli. The offense performed well when the QB was protected. RT is a ? They haven't replaced Wheeler. Conclusion, RT is another priority.
I realize this isn't rocket science but some times these facts get lost. I think a QB could be in play at #17 but I'm pretty confident we are going to take a ER/DL at #6.

Ummm. Did you watch Michael Thomas in college?
I think QB, RT, DL, and EDGE are all bigger needs. You can also argue CB.

Please tell me that you are kidding. You think Butler translates to the NFL pro game? Yes, he'll catch the high balls but maybe I missed the separation or ability after the catch. Unless he bulks up those skinny legs will get him killed in the NFL. Definitely don't see him running away from NFL corners. What am I missing?

Probably true - but they need to be prepared for if he does drop. This happens frequently, where players drop unexpectedly to them and then teams are caught flat footed.
Needs and players align much closer at 37. Brown would be nice but Harmon is more likely. If Nkeal falls a bit he could be play there. Butler of course as well.

Alot.
Hakeem - ( New Window )
3 of our 5 wins came against teams starting their sub qb's. This was not a good team with OBJ and Barkley. Now OBJ is gone to be replaced by ???
It is foolish to draw any conclusions about the loss of Beckham based on those games. These are 70's era type delusions.
Yeah, the Haskins time and manpower investment has all been a smokescreen so we can land Cody Ford or Dillard at 17.
ROTFLMAO.
Whatever floats yer boats men.
