...and qualifies for cap relief. If he makes the team, Stupar will be nicely paid because of seniority, but his cap hit should be that of a third-year player.

That's the issue. I've been updating the salary section of the site on a daily basis and these older guys make quite a bit of change even on minimum contracts because of their seniority.
are important for returning kicks after the Defense allows yet another score.
I didn't expect a huge influx of talent, but so far I'm not really wowed with the bottom half of the roster. shake it up and hope somebody rises to the occasion. Keeping your own means more of the same.
Recluse has it right, he was part of the giants st that was one of the Â
best, if not only in the league, in recent giants history. Makes me worry though about teams that hav their roster occupied by st’ers and not defensive or offensive players.
coach could make a difference but we kept players who were st specialists only. can’t win a lot of games that way.
He's absolutely terrible on defense, and very replaceable on special teams. Takes way too many penalties, doesn't tackle well at times, and doesn't contribute much positive in my view.
Eric: So far, I think Brittan Golden is the only 2019 qualifying deal. Â

As fans, we’ll always hope for cap relief. Realistically, though, there isn’t much motivation for a vested vet to sign a qualifying deal in March. With the guaranteed money capped at $90K, any decent veteran player is likely to wait and see if the market improves. There isn’t much downside to waiting: the minimum salary is locked in by the CBA, and there’s a lot of room on 90-man rosters as players get nicked or flame out during the spring and summer.
for example because of we are not drafting or pulling in a few UDFAs each year that are really athletic guys who just lack experience as starters. Let them earn their bones on specials and then start developing and giving them snaps on various defensive packages. Some may cap out as just good special teamers/backups and some will turn into good athletic starters.
Obviously easier said than done but that’s my opinion...
I'm not sure if the poster above is correct or not, but if he really was injured most of the year and performed a bit better before this past year, then it makes a little more sense.
It does look like he played a fair amount in New Orleans a couple seasons ago.
We have a lot of draft picks. A guy like Stupar in addition to contributing on special teams would be savvy enough to know the defense allowing younger ones to get the reps in training camp.
They're stuck in a place where they're not allowing themselves to really rip it all apart, and the reality that this season is really about eating dead cap money and trying to load up on prospects, while fielding the best team they can ... which isn't likely to be a good one.
Was literally going to say this.
He's good on ST, but keep him away from the defense.
Well the draft is still a month away.
He only played 64 defensive snaps, but they were memorable.
Reminded me a little of Unga, but slightly less effective and slightly better size.
In his only start, against the Redskins in October, he missed three tackles, including a really bad one on Adrian Peterson's TD.
Because he was part of a special teams unit that was one of the best in the league?
Keeping Pulley is the only one that really stood out to me as much of a question.

Hope he never takes a snap on defense and only on special teams.

+1
He was really bad on a bad defense..thats saying something
There has to be a UDFA with more upside.
Also didn't realize Hoss (Jeff Hostetler) is his uncle. I imagine that was discussed last season, but I guess I missed it.

but I do remember a lot of "Way to go Stupid!" in one of the game threads. Anybody remember what game that was & what he did?

That was it!
Building a winning program...minus the actual winning of course.
Does that exist in current salary cap world?
Obviously easier said than done but that’s my opinion...
He hurt his knee and was never 100%
He played really well for New Orleans prior to the injury
Let’s see what he can do when healthy
I suspect this does not mean they will make team

That play against against Peterson where he had him dead to rights and missed the tackle was just classic.....
DG is obviously dumpster diving again....
He had better not ever see the field on downs 1, 2, or 3. Just awful play at LB.
Ideally he doesn't play on defense.
They have what, 12 picks this year? So signing UDFAs won't be as much of a priority.

Agreed. Bit of a head scratcher
Operative word here is cheap...
Tankage, whether they'll admit it or not. Go with men you feel are good for the season at hand.
It's a process.
