I’m not suggesting this is a good plan ...

But if DG takes Haskins at #6 and a stud OT at 17, is the draft deep enough to get good defensive players with our next 3 picks ?
Remains to be seen...

No, they could get some decent back ups but no starters. Now, they

could always get lucky and find a gem in the later rounds, but those are rare.
9 of our 12 picks
Leg of Theismann : 3/20/2019 4:39 pm : link
are pick #95 or later. It's rare to find quality there. I think there's a good chance we hit on 1 of them, but even asking for 2 quality starters out of those 9 is asking a lot. People forget Carter and Hill were picks #66 and #69 respectively, so yes they were 3rd rounders but they were pretty high 3rd rounders. Once you get out of the top 100 it's tough to find a sure thing anywhere.

We have to hit on all of #6, #17, and #37 if we want any chance of competing the next couple of years. We have about 15 holes to file on both sides of the ball and even though we have 12 picks a lot of those later guys are going to be camp wash-outs, that's just how it goes.
The weakness of the team is the DLine
JohnB : 3/20/2019 4:44 pm : link
and that is where the strength of the draft is.

#6 - DLine
#17 - OLine
As much as QB and OL
ryanmkeane : 3/20/2019 4:48 pm : link
would be great with the first two picks, this is an absolutely loaded defensive draft especially in round 1. To wait until pick #37 would be disappointing. That being said, the OL and QB would be set for quite some time if that ended up being the way we go.
Yes we can and it's a good idea since we don't have a RT

What???? You are saying they can’t find starters outside of the first round??
All the more reason to give Rosen a good look.

There seem to be a bunch of LBs and DBs in the middle rounds
yatqb : 3/21/2019 12:26 am : link
but less DL by the 4th or so. Sy, do you agree?
There's also a very big gap between oue 2nd and 3rd rounders,
yatqb : 3/21/2019 12:30 am : link
and lots of talented players who could help us will be gone by our 3rd rounder. It seems an ideal time to trade up in the 3rd with some of our later picks.
Yes you can

But it's not that important to have a starter that you chose in rd 4 or rd 5 for this upcoming season. If you chose someone who can start in 2020 then its still good, right?

So if you take a safety for example in rd 4 or rd 5 and he replaces Bethea in 2020 as a starter, nothing wrong with that, right?
There will likely be good DL well into the 4th and maybe

5th rounds this year. The poster above mentions Dontavious Russell - excellent example.

There's Jeffrey Simmons, how far does he drop from the ACL injury combined with the HS hitting the girl thing? At 37, you get a top 5 talent with him, discounted by one year that you might have to wait till he's healthy.

In the various mocks I've tried, there's always some DL and speedy LBs available late. David Long and Ben Burr-Kiven in the 4th or 5th round...

There's excellence at the top of the draft on the D front seven, but quality depth too.

I wonder if analytics have shown that it's better to rotate 6-7 pretty good DL rather than have 4 studs playing almost every snap... It seems that's what the Pats do with their DL.
12 picks does
Sneakers O'toole : 3/21/2019 3:24 am : link
give them the freedom to move up if there are targets they have their sights on in that second to third round void. Lots of picks buys you options.

To me
mrvax : 3/21/2019 7:05 am : link
it seems like after round 3, they should end the damn draft and the rest should be UDFA's. The same reason they end the draft at 7 rounds could easily be applied to 3.

If the Giants are "sold" on Haskins as Eli's heir and are willing to have him "sit and learn" behind Eli until we are say 3 - 6 and out of it (LOL); well, make the pick. I'm not sold on him.

If Haskins and a starting RT come out of round 1 and have good camps and such we'd have to be ecstatic for the future. Better yet, if last year's picks really develop including Lauletta we'd have to be especially ecstatic.

I believe we can get a good LB in round 2 and maybe some DL's in round 3 but logic says top end defenders are obviously in round 1 and early 2.
