His arm talent is undeniable. The issue is his consistency, his decision-making and the offense he's coming from...among some other things. I remember someone comparing him to Matt Stafford and I really like that comparison and all the pros and cons that come with it.
I'd rather take him at 17 than Haskins or Kyler at 6, even though I have Haskins as my #1 QB.
he was really a good qb at MO. but that’s basically a spread college Â
offense and I wonder how he transitions to pros. He can throw ,really nice long ball as well as all the other throws. I,would question his mobility and thought process though to adept to the pro game. i tweeted some time ago that he was one we and the giants should pay attention to, however I pay far less attention to college ball than i do to the pro game.
and will definitely tell you what he's thinking. But I don't think he's as edgy as Rosen...
So I don't think that's going to appeal to Jints Central. They have a prototype personality they want - sort of the traditional, conservative personality.
I don't think they want any part of a QB with that exhibits the attributes of today's classic Millennial. That's probably way too loud, too much me, and not enough accountability. They just suffered enough of that with OBJ.
From what I've read he has a great arm, can make all the throws and never missed a game. I haven't herd of any size issues like with Murrey. With Haskins he only started one year I think Lock is a 4 yr starter so you don't have the experience concerns. I did read in one of BBIs discussions that there might be leadership concerns?? If he checks that box Lock might just be the Giants next QB IMHO

Very talented thrower. But needs to retool his mechanics b/c he can get very sloppy with technique, and it really shows under pressure. I like the SEC factor a lot. Didn't play well against Bama - not many do unless they are loaded like Clemson - but he was terrific in Florida, in Rocky Top and in Arkansas. And then ended his year with a good effort against Oak State.

IIRC, he got much better as the season went along. I think Mizzou fired their OC and after that, Lock really began to flourish.

Dooley? He was hired before the season started. And he's really good.

Yeah, I think I'm not remembering correctly, but I do recall that Lock got much better as the season progressed.
Won't post online, but I don't need to tell you how the culture within the school districts varies greatly in this area.
My biggest issue with the kids today - including my own - is this narcissistic sense of entitlement. There also seems to be an unhealthy focus on self-diagnosing their own obstacles (ties in with the victimhood culture).
RE: RE: RE: RE: Well, they're all going to be Millenials. Â
wouldn't hate Lock at #17, but I'd pass. His mechanics are bad, which makes him extremely inconsistent. NFL throws are followed by those that are truly awful. He throws off his back foot. He doesn't step into his throws, frequently throwing with just his arm. That causes his passes to sail. On some throws he is literally falling away. His mechanics are particularly bad when he throws on the run, or is under pressure.
He got $95 million. He got traded away from the QB he knocked in public. He is off a 5-11 football team. He got traded to an up-and-coming team with his best friend on it. He won. He got everything he wanted (with the possible exception that his ideal landing spot would have been in CA).
But somehow he's still the victim in all of this? SMH

Right. I mentioned OBJ above in my first post.
Cleveland is about to experience Hurricane Odell - he's officially made landfall...
RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Well, they're all going to be Millenials. Â
BTW, when I pointed this out about Odell on Twitter, I received hate Tweets from people who immediately blocked me. Not unfollowed me, but blocked me. Like they were trying to prove some point and get back at me. Ouch?
Social media warrior culture.
My #1 piece of advise to any college player entering the pros would be to terminate your Twitter account.
*Big arm
*Mobile
*Accurate, despite what his completion % might suggest
Negatives
*Slow release
*His decision making isn't great, even with a clean pocket
*He's horrendous under pressure
He looks great throwing in shorts, but I'm worried about his ability to play in a game. He played in a terribly coached offense until his senior season and showed some improvement under pressure at the end of the year. He might be able to develop more as a pro in this area.

My son is a very good baseball player. Being locked at by a variety of schools. The number one thing we hear from his travel team is to be very limited on social media, and preferably don't use it...
Very good points, all true. I am not saying that you agree with me or not, but in my opinion the Giants finally made a great decision when they made this trade. Then they added to it when they picked up a team first guy like Tate. The culture on this team obviously had to change and Gettleman is doing that whether you believe in what he is doing or not, he is changing the culture to a team first culture, something that the Patriots have had all these years under Belechick.
one of the post season bowl games practices. Showed Impressive arm strength, which is necessary for throws in adverse Giant stadium wind conditions, during second half of season. Big, quick and strong enough to be interesting prospect. Could be a surprise pick late first round or after. He is not a concussion risk like Rosen.
His accuracy isn't as good as Haskins and Murray. He's the clear #3 QB in this class. I do believe he has the upside to be a quality starting QB but his mechanics need some tweaking. I wouldn't use the #6 pick on him.
Pluses:
Strongest arm (with ++ accuracy) in this draft; often his throws look effortless.
Ultra fast release.
Excellent athlete, had basketball scholarship offers out of HS.
Great size for the NFL game.
Has dealt with considerable adversity at Mizzou, and inconsistent receivers.
Minuses
When things go badly for him and his team, he can just collapse.
Point above is what's his mental makeup?
Really inconsistent with footwork, but has quick athletic feet.
Widely argued that he may have the highest upside of any QB in this draft, but does he have the brains and work ethic to reach his potential?
Shurmur could spin this guy into gold, if Lock wants it and gets on board with Shurmur.
Worrisome point Lock made about himself in his Sr Bowl interview, was about how the game vs GA was a wake-up call to him about dedicating himself to Dooley's offense, a new one for him as a SR.
WTF? He didn't buy in to his own OC's coaching until a few games into the season? That's a character issue red flag, I would think.
That being said you don't see a lot of the spectacular throws that you saw last year from a Josh Allen (the 3 TDs in his final game come to mind). And the biggest red flag is that he consistently played small in big spots against top teams... I think he's a huge gamble that I just can't see DG making in the Top 50
highlight reel. He seems to have a very good arm, is accurate and can run pretty well too. I can't find a hitch in his delivery or footwork problems.
Since that is merely highlights, I'll have to read some scouting reports to dig to his weaknesses.
This is a short watch, but it was Lock v Georgia this year. And it was a struggle... Lock v Georgia - ( New Window )
I thought he looked pretty good here, considering the difference in talent. He had a lot of passes dropped, including at least 1 TD. Also his pick 6 went right off the WR's hands. He looked accurate and poised, had decent mobility, and got 29 points on the board.
Lots of natural talent, good size and grit and a great arm Â
& yet I have no opinion on most of these guys as pros. I thought Matt Ryan was going to suck in the NFL. Wrong. I thought Bortles was going to be good.

Actually, you were right about Ryan. He does suck. Noodle armed wuss. He and Rivers both: fantasy guys, all stats, no Lombardy trophies.
Hard to know what DG and his QB team think of these QBs Â
but they have given them a hard look . Anyone of them maybe, being considered a potential for ELI's eventual replacement. They will have time to get him up to speed with ELI staying to help with the transition. With Rosen think it would be disruptive with Rosen trying push ELI out the door from day one. So Lock or Jones could be in play late first or early second round. MO.
I'd rather take him at 17 than Haskins or Kyler at 6, even though I have Haskins as my #1 QB.
so if we want him, its at 6 OR a trade up from 17 using next years assets to do so in a situation where we would have TWO top ten picks this year

We lived near Rocky Run Middle school in Chantilly for 20 years.
