Today, the Giants did a great job of selling their interest in
Dwayne Haskins.
If they can induce another team to jump ahead of them to
secure Haskins, they would probably be left with either
Q. Williams, Josh Allen or Nick Bosa.
Well played, gentlemen.
This tells me we do not know if the Giants are interested in Haskins, which is how it should be.
You might be disappointed in the Giants pick
Good. I'm on board with not tipping your hand. I know by most accounts, it probably won't happen, but I hope this interest in Haskins, is just to bring the price down for Rosen.
But watching Shurmur, Abrams, and Haskins huddling up today... they looked awfully cozy and chummy with each other.
Haskins ticks a lot of boxes... size, arm, straight arrow, media doesn't faze him, well spoken...
If you put gun to my head right now, I think Haskins is not only the pick, but we may give up our #2 to move up a few spots.

I agree, but my fear is it is going to take more than that to move up. Last year the Jets gave up 3 second rounders to move up from 6 to 3. With them being the team sitting at 3 this year I would assume they would expect to get something close to the same value.
And I doubt they have to trade up to get Haskins.
The earth is flat, too.
I am not a fan of any of these QB's this year.
ugh, I pray they don't draft him.
They would be bidding against themselves.
It can also mean absolutely nothing, one way or the other.
BUT teams check out potential picks all the time (Ernie Accorsi, in his book, talks about driving through the countryside with Jeremy Shockey to figure out how the guy ticked): the difference here is that the Giants went public with it. It's all the buzz right now, and not just on BBI - and that's intentional.
I think Giants would be perfectly fine if Washington, Denver, Cincinnati, and/or Miami traded up ahead of #6 to grab a QB this year: hell, in a perfect world TWO of them would in an attempt to snag Haskins and Lock (after Arizona takes Murray).
I think Gettleman's moves so far indicate the way he's going to rebuild this team: start with the OL, make the defense respectable, and THEN, probably next year, address the QB situation so that whoever it is that he anoints as our new Messiah can walk into a situation that's set up to let him succeed, with all the right pieces in place around him, rather than make the Chosen One do it all by himself.
But...DG also stated they needed the draft to build their defense, which is their most immediate need along with a replacement for Wheeler at RT (and maybe a WR too).
Gut tells me they are going best defensive player in RD1, unless Murray is obtainable without giving up too much.
Draft is must see TV in April...will be very interesting.
There is an assumption that a big entourage and positive commentary means Haskins is who they covet.
Hammer, is correct. It could mean real genuine excitement or simply due diligence. I don't think it is a deliberate maskirovka operation either, but if one of the by products of the exercise is the Giants aren't interested in him and one of the prospects they are falls to him, then that is a good thing.
Analysis is a difficult thing and in most cases when our projections are wrong its because we didn't check our assumptions or examine for biases.
You are correct about biases. Mine are for Rosen or Jones at 37.
I do think the Giants were a bit over the top if Haskins is indeed
their target.
I was also impressed with Haskins, and yes Eric, everything about
him screams Giants. I wouldn't be disappointed if Shurmur signs
off on him, but still believe a defensive player at 6 and Rosen
thereafter adds the most value.

This is what I think too. There is an awfully lot of smoke pointing toward a Haskins pick whatever that takes, and then moving on with the rest of the draft.
