for whoever we take at 6 & 17.
The more I think about it, the more I could care less which direction we go. We have so many holes now, we have question marks just about every place. So no matter who we pick, we should be come better instantly and for the future (assuming the pick pans out). There are a lot of options we can go...
QB - Haskins seems like the only logical choice the giants would go early in the draft. Murray is going number 1. It may be too early for Lock/Jones. So if Haskins is the guy at 6, we have our future QB on the roster and can play him as soon as we are out of the playoffs. Jones becomes an option at 17, and I know many people are souring on him due to a vareity of reasons, but the one thing that sticks out with him is that there were games where he stunk, and there were games where he was very good. The common denominator is that his supporting xast was pretty terrible all year. Seeing him with functional options is something that can make him better.
WR - Not in play at #6, but could be at 17 if they fall in love with a guy like Campbell or Metcalf. I would assume these would be the only 2 in the first round that might be in play and they bring something that we dont have. Burner speed.
TE - Hockenson could be in play with either pick. A 2 TE set with a dominating blocker and receiving threat with Hockenson, and a great receiving threat in Engram. The two TE system can work if utilized properly. And it doesnt hurt we help Barkley with a Hockenson type pick.
RT - Dilliard and Williams looks like 2 guys who could be in play at 17, maybe even Taylor. Chad Wheeler is awful. We need a replacement ASAP. Either of these guys will step in immediately and hopefully lock the job down for 10 years.
Interior Line - Gary will be looked at 6. The production at Michigan can be questioned but the skills cannot. He is a great run defender with the ability to get to the QB. Wilkins maybe in play with one of the picks as well. A guy who just always dominates as well. Would love either of these guys in this draft.
Edge - Sweat has the physical skills we have never seen. Josh Allen has the production and physical skills to dominate. It would be great adding one of these guys to the fray and see them develop into a premier pass rusher.
MLB - White and Bush could be first round options as well. Both are blazing fast with natural instincts to hit anything in their way. We havent had a good MLB since Pierce - so I am sure these two will be fun to watch for years.
So there we have over a dozen options (and I am sure people can throw in a few more) that will have an opportunity to be drafted by the Giants. I am sick of the negativity of this guy and that guy. From here on out, I am just looking forward to who we draft and watching them help the team ASAP.
Whether we use them all or not, you figure we are going to have probably 8 draft picks on the roster, plus some street free agents.
Year two is where you should see a GM start to mold his team.
Very exciting times.
I'm really looking forward to this draft and seeing what happens.
But look what Whitten did for the Cowboys, for years. Years. I would love to see that capability on the Giants.
A run-first offense featuring Barkley and a two TE set with Engram and Hockenson could be a potent offense.
We do need that RT though (and C, which I harp on constantly).
And the Giants want to draft defense. And a QB, apparently.
My ultimate "grab" would be a top-notch Edge at 6, Hockenson at 17. A RT at the top of round 2.
I'm not seeing a QB as a possibility this year, unfortunately.
Not saying he'll pan out, but his ceiling is really high. He's just far from a certainty.
Despite the knee jerk opinions, they don't absolutely NEED to take a QB this year.
Now if they don't take one by the end of April 2020, then I'll have an issue. But this draft is loaded and they can really build up the foundation of this roster defensively. Any route they go I'm pretty much fine with.
I don't think they will either - but I'd prefer a stronger, more powerful target on the outside that will help Haskins in the RZ.
We could really use a bigger target - we've been lacking that for a while. Marshall was the right idea, but the wrong player.
Didn't Hill fall because of off-field issues?

I think they are going to use a couple picks on guys in the 5th round as boom or bust potential. Try to find the next Tyreke Hill. The guy who is all the speed but not height or played at a lower college team with little notoriety.
Didn't Hill fall because of off-field issues?
Yep.
