NFT: Commuting Question: How would you get to Raritan, NJ

pjcas18 : 3/21/2019 10:43 am
from Boston?

My options:

Drive. It's around a 4 hour drive based on distance without traffic considerations.

Fly. Fly from Logan to Newark (?) and rent a car or Uber to Raritan. This option sucks IMO. It's an hour to Logan from my house (with traffic, ~30 min without, but there is never no traffic), then say you get there an hour before the flight, between taxiing and landing/deplaning it's an hour to 90 min, the the hassle of airports, etc. before even commuting from Newark to Raritan. In the end you have the stress of air travel combined with no time savings. lose/lose.

Train. Better than flying, Acela to Newark is 5 stops for me, plus it's convenient (can work on train, etc.), but what do I do at Newark Penn station, rent a car and drive to Raritan? It's what? 40 min or so? Only advantage over driving is I don't need to worry about traffic as much, and I can work on the train, but getting in and out of Penn Station has been a shit show lately.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is there a better option than driving. Seems like train might be the only consideration.

there's trains out to Raritan

directly from Newark Penn.

Flying should be the last option. You're another 45-60 min from EWR to Raritan without traffic. I live close to Raritan and had to do the reverse commute to outside Boston (and will again later this Spring) and I just chose to drive. Pretty easy drive.

Flying seems like too much

Driving is always my preferred if reasonable and driving at a time when I don't have to contend with rush hour traffic.

Acela is great. From Newark Penn you'd be looking to hop on the Raritan Valley Line which stops at Raritan station.
Yeah, I guess I'll just drive

if the Acela was closer I'd probably take that and cab/uber around as needed, but seems too far from Newark/Acela stop and I'm so spoiled at this point (on business travel) I'd take a cab/uber before a local train.
Thanks for the replies

I'm going to delete in a few min.
Agree - train

Once your at Penn Station get a NJ Transit train - Raritan Valley line. Trains on that line only run @ houtrly outside rush hour so plan accordingly.
Or, not

Not sure, it's a business trip, so I normally would say no, but what do you have in mind? helicopter?
Drive is longer than 4.

It's 5.5 at the fastest assuming you don't eat or use the bathroom. I do this drive often.

Haha no but the Acela can get pricey just was wondering. Just fly into Newark take the train to Newark-Penn and then train to Raritan.
Take the Train to Raritan But

It’s a long slow ride from Newark to Raritan. Plus, if you go nonrush hour, they run about every hour. That said, it’s probably your best choice
May I ask why your going
