Allbright again on NYG

BP in Delray : 3/21/2019 3:21 pm
Says "they are looking heavily at defensive line" and there is "legit interest" in D Jones but "not sure if they are pulling the trigger"

Put this in the endless draft rumors file....gonna be a long month

About Allbright. I like his stuff. He's correct on a lot of things, but he has no clue on the Giants. Can't recall him ever breaking news about the Giants and last year leading up to the draft he showed he had no clue what we were doing.
I could see a situation played out where Haskins is the guy they

Daniel Jones at 6 is going to gain steam

Sy said something critical the other day - if the Giants have a first round grade on Jones they aren't going to chance waiting until 17.

If the Giants have a conviction on a QB and he's available at 6, whether it's Jones, Grier, Lock, Haskins, etc, I would be surprised if they don't take him at 6.

Giants have interest in the defensive line? Really? Everyone on earth knows this to be true. The Giants have "interest" in Jones? I could report this too. Hell, the Giants have "interest" in 15 players in the first round. Christ. This is reporting these days.
i think it is rational

daniel jones sucks. like he's really not good at all. and it would show even further that this team can't get away from the mannings (in this case cutcliff through association). daniel jones would be a disaster and would ruin at least half of barkleys career.

i would absolutely find a second team to root for during the dark years ahead if they pick him

I can't recall his exact words, but in the Saquon aftermath DG talked about sticking to their value system. And, as proven by Saquon, any QB positional benefit doesn't work in his picking system. And this goes beyond the 'Gold Jacket" talk. So, if he does pick Jones, and I don't think it would be going out on a limb to say that the DL guys are rated far, far, above Jones (maybe Haskins too but maybe that's less clear-cut), he would be contradicting his Saquon pick.

What you are actually saying is that you know more about scouting a QB than the Giant's staff.

Secret: No, you don't.

Granted I know little about Jones even though my alma mater plays them but there is nothing that I recall him being elite at. To me, your 1st round grades should have at least an elite upside.

Does anyone know anything that Jones is elite at?

Yeah, I'd say if Gettleman swings and misses on the QB, his long-term outlook won't look good and he won't still be here to try again. So, hitching his wagon to Jones - especially that early in the draft - would be a heck of a swing on his part.

Drew Lock @ 6 wouldn't even bother me - I'm not a big Lock guy, but I think he's the 3rd QB in this draft behind Haskins/Murray and could justify taking him early. He has the live arm you want and can rip the ball in a way the other guys can't.

But Daniel Jones anywhere in the 1st round would really bug me. He'd be totally overdrafted there, in my opinion. And it would be really poor value in a draft where we really cannot afford to do that.

No one in this crop is worth a first round choice. But taking Murray would be so unusual, and so out of the box and against the principles of the "Giants Way", that I could probably get behind it.

I'm in the same boat. Murray won't be there, and he's the only guy I'd consider a first rounder.

When you factor in that Eli will be the starter, drafting a quarterback in round 1 makes even less sense.
If Jones is taken at 6
Philu916 : 3/21/2019 5:10 pm : link
Gettelman should get fired on the spot. Many scouts say Jones is a backup, and they have Haskins/Murray as the top 2 rated QBs Lock 3 and Finley/Jones as 4/5 ranked. No realistic reason to pass up a future defensive stud for a backup.

The field talks itself into what the Giants seem to like. The field bought into the Kabuki act the Giants put on yesterday in Columbus. Had the Giants seemed disinterested in Haskins, the field would be disinterested in Haskins.

The field just checks which way the wind blows.

Well, I can't speak for everyone else. I've liked Haskins since he declared - before the Giants expressed a shred of interest and haven't wavered on it at all. I was disappointed in Russini's report, and glad that it turned out to be BS. I didn't change my tune anywhere in between.

If the Giants like Jones and take him, I'm telling you right now I'm not going to be happy about it or like it.

I won't whine about it daily like people who wanted Darnold still are - but I'll need a hell of lot of convincing by the guy on the field to be on board.

I don't want anything to do with a guy who needs a running start to throw a deep ball and looks more like he's throwing a javelin. But that's me.

It's ridiculous how much of the same page we are on. Jones is the one guy they could draft that would really get my questioning my fanhood. It just reeks of the Giants moving with the "known" quantity. I don't think it will be him because he really just screams shitty version of Eli Manning. I would definitely start questioning the competency of the organization moving forward. If there is one QB in the draft I don't want them to take it is him.

I love Haskins and if he isn't the guy so be it. Someone like Grier in the 2nd or even Lock I could live with. Jones is the one I'm not sure I could get over. It would be like all the bad stereotypes about this franchise coming to fruition.

Yessir.

Not that I really care what talking heads say or think, but NYG taking Jones @ 6 - especially if it's over Haskins/Lock - or worse, a top flight defensive talent that has slipped - I think they're going to get absolutely dragged over the coals for it and get destroyed.

And rightfully so. I really think Jones @ 6 represents about the poorest possible value.

Jones @ 37 or in a trade down scenario is less infuriating, but I'd still not be happy about it.

Yes, in my opinion none are. Each one has a hole in their game big enough to make them too risky to invest first round money - in my judgment.

I think it's a crop of valuable 2nd and 3rd round types.

Based on what transpired last year, this obviously isn't true. The field picked who they wanted to get behind during or even before the college football season started, warts be damned when it had all played out. There just only happens to be two guys rated highly enough this year and one of them is out of reach.

I think he handles pressure better than every QB in this draft not named Murray. I like his mechanics and his ability to throw with good touch. I like that he is sneaky athletic and can make good pre snap adjustments and reads. I like that heís a smart kid who received top level coaching. And I like that he profiles as a more athletic Eli Manning. Cause I like Eli. Iíve always liked Eli. I just also have always wished if need be Eli could scramble for 10-15 yards instead of taking a sack or chucking an ill advised pass.
