Ace718 : 3/21/2019 5:16 pm

- He got the sense last year that he wasnt a part of their future plan.
- Was glad to not be traded last season.
- He had a dream of finishing his career with the team that drafted him but this is a business and that's how it worked out.
- Says he's happy being with the Redskins because his favorite player Sean Taylor played for them.
- Giants are making business decisions and taking the team in a new direction. Hopes the best for the Giants
- Not shocked to see Odell being traded. He says the writing was on the wall
- Says he never saw any negativity between Odell and The head coach.
- Asked about the Giants letting out that Collins wasn't goof in coverage. Says he's looking forward to the games against NY and proving them wrong.
- Says Bettcher is a great guy and great coach.
- Says he would not have played if franchise tagged.
- Still doesn't know which number he'll wear
- Eli can still be the guy for the Giants. He still has something left.

- Doesn't know if the Giants will take a QB. Doesn't know what their vision is at this point.
That's good stuff

It's a shame things didn't work out for him here, but hopefully, they don't work out over there either. :)

But at least he's getting P-A-I-D

Defended himself a little against the coverage knocks. Said he was put in positions and techniques he hadn't played before. Some of the drops he wasn't used to "I'm not a linebacker"

Alluded to fans and media not always understanding the assignments. Specifically referenced the Niner game. Said Kittle only caught a couple balls on him, the rest of Landon's tackles on Kittle were from him covering up for teammates.
Really liked Landon
BBelle21 : 3/21/2019 5:32 pm : link
and was sorry to see him go. Came across as a good guy and these comments show how classy he is. Wish him success in Washington (except against the Giants). His “writing on the wall” comment about Odell caught my eye. So the players weren’t surprised?
Thanks for the summary

I really liked Collins and was probably more bummed about him than obj.
Great insights

Thanks for giving your all and best of luck.
With Landon
RobCrossRiver56 : 3/21/2019 5:37 pm : link
We definitely lost a good guy, but he knew he wasn't in their plans going forward and might be grateful the tag was withheld allowing him to leave and get paid.

All the best to Collins

He was a great Giants and hope he does great....

This is probably is the reason they wanted the new safety from Cleveland.

Guy. Good player.

Just not worth that type of cash.
Sounds like a good interview
ZogZerg : 3/21/2019 5:47 pm : link
Please note that he said he wouldn't play on the tag. Some on BBI were confused about that.

Indeed. Stand up guy.

At least he confirms he wouldn’t have played under the tag, so you can’t really be surprised they let him walk.

I think it's best all around that he walked. Good luck to him, i'll still be a fan.
Big fan of his
BillT : 3/21/2019 6:12 pm : link
But not at the price he was paid. Nice to hear the things he said. Clearly a good guy.
It's too bad the two dopes...
Johnny5 : 3/21/2019 6:17 pm : link
... interviewing him pretty much kill the Giants every move. They were bringing up the fact that people were saying "he can't cover" now as a narrative for justification on not resigning him. I think the coverage thing is overblown based on him being a classic in the box safety but it's been a knock on him since college. He is definitely NOT a cover safety.

Exactly. The biggest part IMO. Not worth the cost, even at tag price. And if we still tagged he could've held the team for ransom much like Bell did
I wish him well.

I wish his team misery and failure, but I wish him well.

Collins is so skillsy -- he's got the physical skills you scheme around.

I don't think he's worth the contract, but given the investment the Skins made, it's pretty clear he's one of the center pieces of their defense.
I alway go back and forth on the idea of extending guys early
rasbutant : 3/21/2019 6:31 pm : link
Had the Giants offered him highest paid safety money before 2018 he would still be on the team for about 11-12 mil/yr with team friendly structure.

Flip side, if they gave JPP the early extension and he then blows off his hand...well you get the point.

I also, wonder if agents are steering client away from extensions??? You don't see it happen as often. I think the eagles do it still?

Just as the Giants are looking for the missing piece on D as they ascend for another Super Bowl run. Landon resigns and gets his trophy....Book it.

Pick 6 against Giants
joeinpa : 3/21/2019 9:08 pm : link
Guaranteed
I don’t know why he’d have anything bad to say about the organization
Mellowmood92 : 3/21/2019 9:12 pm : link
They didn’t trade him off during a lost season, when they were dumping other players for draft picks; and they didn’t apply any sort of tag to him allowing him to get paid immediately off his rookie deal. He should be giving them nothing but praise, and they’d deserve it. A lot of people for some reason seemed to imply the Giants disrespected him or didn’t appreciate him by just letting him walk, if anything I think it’s the complete opposite. They knew he wasn’t in their future plans and they let him move on elsewhere after completing his contract. It’s a good situation for both sides.
Class comments......
Dry Lightning : 3/21/2019 9:27 pm : link
He was a good, not great player. If there was no cap, and no FA, he would not be gone. DG made the correct decisions all the way around, not trading him, and not signing him. The scary thing are his comments on not playing on the tag. These guys are getting so rich, they would rather sit out then risk injury. This is going to fuck up the game big time, and lead to a nasty work stoppage in two years. Just watch.
Easy to take shots at the giants
Tuckrule : 3/21/2019 9:29 pm : link
And he didn’t. Great character guy some good notes. Thanks for posting
As some surmised,
Doomster : 3/21/2019 10:42 pm : link
he probably told DG he wouldn't play if tagged, in other words, wouldn't sign the tendered tag......thus, that answers the question why DG didn't tag him to trade him, because he would not sign it...
Really nice to hear...
sb from NYT Forum : 3/21/2019 11:05 pm : link
...personally I wish the Giants signed him to an extension before the end of 2018. Yeah, he's not great in coverage but that's not the player he is.

If this team had any semblance of a pass rush I think he'd be back to 2016 form.
Didn’t see or hear the interview...
bw in dc : 3/21/2019 11:19 pm : link
but if the quotes and tone are captured correctly then bravo to the class shown by LC.

Nice to see. Lots of credit to Saban for getting his guys so well-schooled in doing the right thing...

He is definitely a class act, and that is definitely how he handled the interview for sure. Not the two bozos that interviewed him sadly.

Not buying that he wouldn't have played under the tag, he hasn't gotten the big $ yet, but he was too expensive for the giants at this point...
