Kerry Wynn is visiting the Bengals today, per source. Versatile defensive lineman and good special-teamer. Giants also remain in the mix

Wynn was one of two Giants free agents to visit the Bengals today, joining S Curtis Riley, per source. Bengals DC Lou Anarumo coached Riley last season in New York.

Solid role player

But I think we need to go in a different direction ... he really can’t
get pressure on the QB
They have much more available money

I don’t expect to see him wearing blue anymore. Bye Kerry.
Yes, time to move

on....
The Pats were interested in him last year.
rasbutant : 3/21/2019 6:39 pm : link
I see the connection too, he is a very Patriot like player. Good specials, plays assignment football, and can play multiple positions along the line. Good teammate and doesn't cost a lot.

OLD NEWS: The Patriots hosted restricted free agent DE Kerry Wynn on a visit Wednesday, per source.
Wynn is a useful player. Limited but useful.

You need guys like Kerry Wynn on a winning team. I'd be happy to see him back at a low price.

It seems easy to replace a guy like Wynn, but it's not as easy as it looks. It's easy to draft or sign a guy whom you hope will be as good, or who you think should be as good, but he's overachieved while a lot of draft picks underachieve.
Re-signing Wynn should be a priority.
Red Dog : 3/21/2019 7:03 pm : link
He's a very good special teamer and solid run defender witha at least a little pass rush ability as a rotational DE. You need guys like him, they are light on the DL now after losing Edwards and Mauro, and I agree with the notion that he's not a snap to replace with some rookie or some cheap vet FA.

Riley, on the other hand, would be much more valuable to the GIANTS by signing with any other NFL team because he's a terrible DB and he'd help the G-men in the comp pick equation for next spring.
He was arguably

Our best defensive player last year. I’m surprised how quickly he’s being dismissed here.

AcidTest : 3/21/2019 7:18 pm : link
not sure we have the money to resign him. I'd certainly like him back. As others have said, he's a solid run defender who can generate a little pass rush pressure, and is excellent on ST.
had his best year last year

and he's never had a big contract, he has to see what's out there and maximize his earnings in short career

Maybe not best defensive player but I agree. He was a bright spot and I'm surprised how little BBI thinks of him.
Wynn is one of those guys

That I didn't think much of but he's won me over in the last two years... For a rotational DL, he was very effective... I'm happy to see that he has some suitors... Good for him...

I would certainly prefer hanging on to Wynn than a B.W. Webb
Mauro, Edwards and now potentially Wynn gone....
Emlen'sGremlins : 3/21/2019 8:23 pm : link
....that leaves us with like two D-Linemen, Tomlinson and Hill. Beyond paper thin!

Need to draft l3 D-Linemen.

Because if he is your best defensive player( I disagree), then you are an awful, putrid, team
Well you’re getting

I'd love to hear that argument. Wasn't even the best DL (pre or post Snacks).
For a Pulley-like contract
giants#1 : 3/22/2019 6:18 am : link
I'd consider re-signing him. Anything more than that and you let him walk, which could also help our comp picks for next year!
He's an NFL-caliber backup, but . . .
Pete in VA : 3/22/2019 6:47 am : link
to say he was arguably our best defensive player? No. He might have been the 4th best lineman on a defensive line that played very poorly as part of one of the worst defenses in the league. He's fungible. JAG.
Well I didn’t
Jolly Blue Giant : 3/22/2019 8:22 am : link
Say it was an argument that you would win. He was certainly a bright spot for me on an otherwise forgetful defense. A guy that has worked his way into the line up and hustles on special teams would be a big loss when you are trying to change culture, etc. I hope they can keep him.

He was a bright spot because he vastly surpassed expectations for him. But those expectations were extremely low for most. Almost every starter was better than him though, however, the perception of those players is likely lower because expectations were significantly higher.

Wynn's valuable on a cheap deal as your 4th/5th DL (assuming a 34 front) and special teams player. Your D likely isn't very good if he's getting starters snaps though.
I’d be sad to see him go
GiantTuff1 : 3/22/2019 9:20 am : link
He makes 2-3 impact plays per game when he’s in there (in limited time) and seems to fit the hustle and professionalism DG is looking for.

Guy tries and it jumps off the screen.

I don’t see why we wouldn’t have interest, but I trust the evaluators.
He's a reserve type player...
BillKo : 3/22/2019 10:07 am : link
.....a good reserve.

But the Giants need to get away from players like this........let's go find young guys in the draft on rook contracts.

Our DL at this time is the thinnest part of our roster and I expect us to to heavy (and big) there............
You've got
Gman11 : 3/22/2019 11:43 am : link
53 players on a roster. Not everybody is going to be All-Pro. He's a good backup and special teamer. If that's his role with whatever team signs him then they're OK. If he's starting then your team has a problem.
Stop it! Please!

As I said above, harder than it looks. He came cheap, but he's overachieved.

I suspect he'll end up somewhere else because the Giants won't (and probably shouldn't) give him the raise he's earned.
I'm not saying he does not fill
Doomster : 3/22/2019 1:05 pm : link
a role.....

If he only played during the regular season like he does in preseason.....

I'm just saying, we need to upgrade at just about every position on this team....in his case, how hard should that be?

He is what he is.....he has played up to his potential....I think he is going from team to team, because this might be his last contract, and he wants to get as much as possible....who can blame him for that? I am sure the Giants made an offer....probably low balled him.....

We can replace OBj, but we can't replace Wynn?

1) Nobody said he's irreplaceable. Just that it's harder than it looks, because it's not so easy to find solid backups.

And not to put too fine a point on it, but they're not going to "replace" OBJ except in the sense that someone else will be the X receiver. His production is all but irreplaceable. You could get a Pro Bowl receiver and still not have replaced OBJ's production. But you know, the graveyards are full of irreplaceable men. Emlen Tunnell was irreplaceable. Gifford, Tittle, Simms, LT, Carson, Strahan, all irreplaceable. Life goes on.
