The evening games were rough for the ol' bracket for me. Onward and upward - on the docket today are:
12:15 - Cincinnati v. Iowa
12:40 - Ole Miss v. Oklahoma
1:30 - Texas Tech v. Northern Kentucky
2:00 - Kansas St. v. UC Irvine
2:45 - Tennessee v. Colgate
3:10 - Virginia v. Gardner-Webb
4:00 - Buffalo v. Arizona St.
4:30 - Wisconsin v. Oregon
6:50 - Utah St. v. Washington
7:10 - Duke v. North Dakota St.
7:20 - Houston v. Georgia St.
7:27 - Mississippi St. v. Liberty
9:20 - UNC v. Iona
9:40 - VCU v. UCF
9:50 - Iowa State v. Ohio State
9:57 - Scum v. Saint Louis
That is a good opening round, missed a few games myself.
I actually set up two brackets, one with more upsets.
For example, I picked UC-Irvine in today's games.
Picking Seton Hall was just stupid on my part but Kentucky should win Saturday regardless.
Moving on... we're due for a major upset today, hopefully not UNC

Thats what I was banking on with Yale. If they could have just hit on a few of those 3's, they win that game.
Me too.

I'm off to a really shitty start. I have Iowa upsetting Cinci and Ole Miss upsetting Oklahoma

Ole Miss over Oklahoma shouldn't have been an upset. They are the 8 seed. An utterly embarrassing performance today.
AmIrite?
Love how Cincinnati essentially gets home games this weekend as a 7 seed. Tennessee can't be happy. It's nonsense.
Not so fast. Amateur hour against the full court press.
Better not! TN is my pick for the finals losing to Duke. My 'unsafe' pick.
I'm sure they will pull it out, but what the hell are they doing?
It's early.
That's what they said last year against UMBC.

Not going to happen twice.

Last year UVA had an injury excuse. I agree they will come back.... but if they don't .... holy shit
Agree but i do think the NCAA should reevaluate its pod model. It's not fair a 4 seed essentially plays a road game against a 13, and its fairly routine considering the 4 seeds get the worst venues since they get the final 4 slots.
The issue in the first half was that Diakite was showing hard on the hedge (as we typically do) and they were just slipping the hedge with ease and getting easy baskets at the rim. At the same time, we had six straight turnovers on offense. I no doubt think we were playing with nerves and playing tight after what happened last year.
When Huff came in, Tony had him stop hedging and to sag on the screener and it tightened up our paint and made it very hard for G-W to get any offense.
Then you see some shots go in on offense, and the tide turned.
In the second half, Diakite stopped hedging, too. And then our defense was impenetrable in the second half our our size on offense and guard play to dissect the zone made for easy baskets

Excellent analysis, but I still think Salt would have helped. The hedging was definitely a problem. They need to shoot better to win on Sunday. Teams are clearly running at Guy, and forcing everyone else to shoot from three point range.
Salt doesn't initiate offense. He's a great screener and can grab offensive rebounds, but G-W boxed out well so what really succeeds are agile, bouncy players (like Diakite and Key). Salt scores around the rim when the D is spread out too much and he can get an easy look. But his offensive skills aren't good enough to go to play after play.
Salt will start next game and will be useful in certain situations.
I also hate, HATE, the lineups with both Clark and Salt. We essentially are playing 3 on 5 on the offensive end with them. The numbers bear it out - those lineups struggle mightily to score. I love Tony Bennett but I don't know how he doesn't see this.
Dre finally started playing aggressively in the second half. We need much more of that.
Huge game by Diakite after a bad start. His defense in the second was superb and he was attacking the rim. Loved it, want more of it.
Bottom line - they clearly were mentally screwed up early and playing scared. Once they got that out of their system, they outscored GW 57-28. I hope they got the demons out of their heads going forward because this team is really damned good and has no excuse to not make a long run.
Agreed, but GW was hitting a lot of outside shots in the first half. Since Virginia wasn't, you counter that by going inside on the offensive end. Salt's size advantage would have also helped on the boards.
Plus teams that were based on slow tempos and had difficulty scoring. Wisconsin got a ton of beneficial calls in the Big 10, Happ alone got 4-5 per game.
If he could develop 1/2 a mid range jumper he’ll be great
It’s a faux pas to say but I agree
I would agree but Barkley was saying this at halftime ... and he's an anti-indicator.
I was hoping to take your salary donation by the way. Every bit of free money helps!
Very happy for Ritchie McKay, former UVA assistant and close friemd of Tony Bennett

No, Auburn was a 5 seed. They won. The only one.
Would put the finishing touches on my personal year if UNC choked this season away.
If you have a tie-up and keep the ball, why does the shot clock not reset? It should be treated like a new possession since that's what the arrow is intended to do. The opposition doesn't get the ball with a lower amount on the shot clock.
White 2-5
and most of these misses were wide open looks or missed bunnies.
Little probably the best player at 4-7 but he committed some egregious easy look misses and bad fouls too.
PUTRID. CBS put the metric about Roy's 28-0 first round record and the team shit the bed (and Iona hit about 7 consecutive threes... but in fairness most were wide the fuck open looks) from that point...
I had VCU today - man did my bracket suck this year. 24-10 or 23-11 it looks like. When you go 15-1 on chalk (top 4 seeds)... that is abysmal. //slaps own face// idiot
As a VCU alum, I'm not surprised. This team ran on coaching and effort all season. Two of the last three draft classes pissed away due to Smart and Wade leaving.
VCU needs talent. They've always had defense and heart. Marcus Evans is playing on a hyperextended knee, and we have nothing for Tacko.
We are literally 0 for the game in 3's. Just no shooting talent at all.
How we got 25 wins as and a BPI rating in the mid 30's is just incredible.
Rhodes has gotten the most out of these kids. I hope he can recruit.

21-7 but no one but one team wins another game that I lost on so I will take it

My take on this fwiw is the tie up happens while the O team has possession. If the O gets the ball they continue that same possession as if there was no tie up, so no reset. If it's the D, it's a change of possession so they reset. Also works for stuck on the rim type jumps as the clock would reset for either team on rebounding the ball after it hits the rim
Never thought about it but IMO makes sense
