It's no worth it. Unless Haskins actually has the Starbucks coffee cup in his hand, they can't see that he had an inordinate amount of time to pick which open receiver to throw to...

Rivarly game against Michigan 16 ranked D in the country hung 62 points and a win(They were higher than 16 before game but this performance dropped them) 19/30 319 yards 5 TDS Bowl game against Washington 5th ranked D 28 points 25/37 253 3 TDs Both team had players on D that will starting for their NFL teams in 2019. High Pressure games against quality defenses.

Michigan's vaunted DL get schooled by OSU's OL. Although I was informed above that OSU's OL stinks.

Look, I think the Big Ten, outside of Columbus, was really down. When Michigan played outside their conference, they lost. Notre Dame dominated them early and win. And when they played in their bowl game against the Gators, they got waxed.

And please don't bring a Pac-12 team into this. Pac-12 football is way, way down.

Pac-12 is way way down! Ok now we have issues!!

The clean pocket stands out every time and we know that will not happen in the NFL. He has played in 13 games in college seeing virtually no pressure he did put up awesome stats. I would still pass on him at 6 and go defense and I would not trade up for him. Also if Arizona is blowing smoke on Kyler he could move down to 6.

Murray isnít slipping all the way to 6 thatís pretty clear.

I think he was eating Twinkies on the sideline while the defense was playing.
His throwing mechanics are very sound
ColHowPepper : 3/22/2019 3:28 pm : link
he steps into his passes when in the pocket, good use of his lower and upper body for velocity. He steps up when able.

But what stood out to me were his throws on the run: running to his right, he squared and threw off his left leg/foot; running to his left, he squared and threw off his right foot. He consistently squared his body to LOS to get max velocity/accuracy. His throws on the move were consistent and impressive.

I don't want to use a lot of picks to move up, and FMiC has a point, he looks puffy in his upper body, but i assume that's addressable if Haskins wants to. I just hate the use of draft capital here when there are so many holes.

Let's be honest, it wasn't a vintage year for the Pac-12.

If you don't know, I watched Haskins play in high school at The Bullis School in Potomac, MD.

My wife and I thought about sending my son there. So we went to two games. Haskins was really a terrific high school prospect. It's very cool seeing a local product shine.

But I'm just trying to be fair and call it as I see it. And take all factors into account with watching Haskins play. It just seems we see things through a different lens. No big deal...

Actually I will say this about the Pac-12... It was some of their best Def I have seen in years. Cal played some amazing Def... I mean their offense was bad... no pathetic.. worse than pathetic... But Def was up. We don't have the luxury of the SEC to play 4 cream puffs and only 8 conference games. Ok fine it wasn't the best year.... Whatever it clearly doesn't bother me.

pressure, completing 70% while getting the tar beaten out of him, then he SUCKS and can't play. The prejudice on this site against him is laughable. On top of that, you geniuses don't even know what you are looking at. In that video, he made a number of excellent throws with a free blitzer coming off the corner, correctly identified him and threw the ball IN THE AREA VACATED. that's advanced, high level stuff. I don't know if he'll make it, nobody here does. but the clean pocket bullcrap is just that- crap. He's an excellent prospect, on AND off the field. We would be lucky to have him.

I didn't see anyone reacting NEARLY the way you describe. There are valid concerns against drafting him. Same as Murray and I love Murray. At the end of the day we are just having discussion about opinions formulated on what we see, and read. Personally I see us going defense in round one, but I'll be fine if the Giants are high enough on Haskins to select him (and he is actually there). I'll root for the pick as a Giants player unless/until he leaves or proves not worthy of support.
The ball placement doesn't get enough love here.
Zeke's Alibi : 3/22/2019 4:00 pm : link
Maybe it's from years of watching ELi, but it is where the game is moving. It's why I loved Mayfield last year and why I love Haskins this year. It doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but if you are going to be a pocket passer in today's NFL you need to be able to create YAC for your receivers. Unfortunately that isn't a strenghth of Eli's game and why he hasn't aged well.
How do you view that video

Oregon had a great recruiting class this year. I think it's one of the reasons Herbert stayed. And I am still very curious to see how Kelly fixes UCLA. That's going to be very entertaining.

I thought Herm did a terrific job at ASU. Very interested to see what happens when his recruits start playing. He had a top 25 class this year.

He does all the little things that make for a great QB. He also is a great kid. He would be a really great successor to Eli.

Donít overlook your last two sentences in what it means to the Giants FO. Haskins, Lock or even Rosen are QBs Iíd be happy with learning behind Eli this season.
Ill say this...

If Haskins is drafted at #6 it's a waste of time to sit on the bench. He should start immediately.

And thatís BWs second usual point.
Dave on the UWS : 3/22/2019 5:07 pm : link
You must have hated all the years QBs were groomed and had to wait their turn. There are VERY few QBs coming out now that SHOULD start right away. There are a lot of things (like footwork) that these kids need to learn at the pro level they DONíT dominate college. A year of grooming under Eli would set Haskins or any of these guys up to succeed in 2020. Haskins is going to get better - a LOT better. A point I donít see anyone making.
Of course starting right away can work..

Where did anyone say any of that? I think most agree he has talent. I think there are very valid concerns about experience and adversity that he faced in game situations. If you don't believe me, go back and read NFL.com scouting report on him, lack of adversity/pressure is literally one of the big negatives highlighted for him.

There is no issue pointing out that 1 year starters in college have found limited success in the NFL (you can find this if you google articles about Haskins). Likewise, there is no issue pointing out that Urban Meyer qbs have not been great in the NFL (Alex Smith being the exception, but I think everyone can agree even he was primarily a game manager). There is also no issue or even controversy pointing out that he was on a great team, and largely had a talent advantage over his competitors.

I didn't see him elevate his team the way I saw of some other qbs in college, I saw him have as much or somewhat more success as the qbs who preceded him in that program. I saw Andrew Luck elevate his team at Standford, In 2017 I saw Sam Darnold elevate his team (we saw what happened the year after he left to USC), heck I even saw UCLA better with Rosen under center. I just didn't see the same thing from Haskins with OSU. It's a very legitimate concern to wonder whether his success was due more to him or to the team around him. Its not bias or prejudice just because you disagree with someone. If the Giants take him, great, they must have really done their homework enough to make a judgement on him.
The comp I was using for Haskins
Jay on the Island : 3/22/2019 6:32 pm : link
has been Roethlisberger but today I realized another QB that he reminded me of. Haskins is very similar to Jamarcus Russell. Now that might seem like an insult because Russell was a huge bust but the reason Russell busted was because he was incredibly lazy and flat out didn't care. He had a great arm but he wasn't the most mobile QB mainly. His weight didn't help him in that regard. Personality and work ethic wise Haskins is nothing like Rusell.

I think it will be a big mistake if the Giants pass on Haskins if he is on the board at 6. With that said I trust JonC and I don't think they will select him. I just hope they don't make the mistake of drafting Daniel Jones instead even if it's in round 2.

Not even close. I wasn't a fan of Haskins at first but the more I see and hear about him the more I want the Giants to select him. He'd be going to the perfect spot because he could sit behind Eli for half a season and then take over in the likely event that the Giants are out of it.

If the Giants are "really" interested in taking a QB than to pass on Haskins will be a big mistake. Your looking for someone to lead your franchise for the next 10-15 yrs. staying at 6, moving up to 3 (even Ūf it costs #17) is relatively not relevant. I don't want to give up the picks but if you could get the second coming of Ben R. Isn't it worth it. "No guts No glory"

Second coming of Roethlisberger? How? They're both right handed?

Did you see Roethlisberger play at Miami of Ohio? Are you suggesting Haskins can improvise to the same level as BR? When has he done that?

For the record, BR started as freshman, sophomore, and junior. And he had three winning years in he MAC. 13-1 his final year. He had considerably less talent to work as well.

Haskins

Has some faults in his game but he does not show them to the point where he should get knocked out of the sixth spot. He moves around in the pocket, keeps his eyes downfield, can make just about every throw, he can even run a little bit. He is not perfect but which QB is those were some great weather games for the most part with several balls a bit late arriving but he did not miss many open guys deep thatís not something we hear very often with Eli.

He is a young QB which this team needs nobody is a sure thing we got lucky with OBJ if weíre lucky enough to draft Haskins Iím all in for the pick.

Also show what most posters are afraid of with Haskins, a qb facing little pressure throwing to guys running free in space? That's what I saw and its fairly clear. Not saying he isn't talented but I am not sure how you walk away from this video feeling better about taking Haskins at 6.

You are crazy or biased or maybe not very observant, not sure which one. Maybe you should watch it again and take notes this time.

Huh?? Did you even watch the video, hes throwing to wide open guys and facing little pressure. In many instances he standing back in a picture perfect pocke. I mean, you gotta wonder with some BBI posters, its literally on the film.

I mean, the Michigan game highlights- his apparent claim to fame around here- he faces legit pocket collapsing pressure once...and takes off running. On his "highlight" throws, one is to a receiver who is even arguably contested, and the DB is trailing. The remainder are to guys who are running free. I mean, there are throws where the WRs are so open they have to slow down for the ball to get to them.

If you want to argue about his talent, fine no problem, he looks like he might have some. But to argue his team wasn't significantly better than the teams he played and that this video somehow dispels that, is borderline lunacy.

Right Michigan Def the #2 pass Def in all the NCAA with a ton of talent and first round draft picks was significantly worse to you? This is just getting stupid now.
Killed Michigan with drag and crossing routes all day. Doable when you have arguably the fastest WR core in college.
I thought I noticed it when I watched him

what I saw in thin slicing perspective from watching OSU games live.

He jumps off the tape as something completely different from what I expected from an OSU or Justin Meyers QB.

Remarkably accurate throws time and time again into tight windows all over the field, nice array of power vs touch throws even both together.
Cool under pressure, always looking to throw rather than run very good down field and sideline to sideline vision.
Nice footwork within the pocket and a decent feel which way to hop, skip or slide, although occasionally he gets away with some really bad decisions about how and where to move when flushed.

I'm not going to call out specific posters that have been knocking him for various issues, but if you don't see a top 5 pick talent at QB in him, you really have problems evaluating QB talent.

And the narrative about him having "all day" in the pocket is utter BS. LOTS of that tape is under duress, he's just so cool about it - most of the time- you don't notice it. Look at the tape vs Maryland where OSUs D tried to hand away that win drive after 4th qtr drive. Haskins stepped up and won that game for OSU, almost single handedly.

He's the goods and the Gmen will be very very fortunate to land him at 6. To hell with the narrative that "he didn't start enough games." Bullshit. You really don't need to see more of him, and if he did stay and more or less repeat that performance he'd be spoken of as potentially #1 overall, even with Tua, Fromm, and Herbert in play. Don't over think it, or him. Granted it's highlights...

This should be required reading for the entire board and should once and for all end all the negative naysayers who obviously want Miller even though he will be selected at one. Just like Mayfield May have been our guy last year, he was selected one, so move on to the number two or three guy.
