What's our favorite all time "under the radar" Giants' play?

BlueLou'sBack : 3/23/2019 3:49 am
Not looking for the well known and documented historical play like the Tyree helmet catch or the 4th and 17 Simms to
Bobby Johnson or the Gary Reasons goal line stop "the hit" vs the Broncos.

Something less famous, less celebrated, less obvious.

For me, it's not only under the radar, but also under the pile. How Ahmad Bradshaw ever recovered that fumble in SB XLVI we'll never know for sure, but I always figured he just mugged whoever had the dang ball and ripped it away like a starving Hyena takes food from a pride of lions. The fumbled ball appeared to settle under a quarter of Patriots, but after the huge pile up was unearthed by the referees it was Bradshaw with the ball again at the bottom of the pile.

Eli vs the 9ers for the NFC title can't or definitely shouldn't be considered under the radar. 2 SB MVPS notwithstanding, to me that was the epitome of Eli's entire career and the defining game that might make him HOF worthy.

If you had to pick one above all others. I can't imagine another QB hanging in that game like Eli did, except maybe Favre. Tough southern boys.

There are fans on this board who say Eli "dilfered" both SB's. Most casual fans (non-giant) would probably say that the D won both of their Sb's against the Pats. Under the radar may not be the right way to describe it but I don't think that game is considered the all time performance it should be.

One of my favorite Giant trickeration plays ever.

Toss sweep to Tiki, flea flicker back to Kerry Collins then Kerry unleashes a
65-70 yd throw in the air on a dime in the breadbasket over the defense.
Kerry Collins to Amani 82 yd TD - ( New Window )

That was a good one...
This play may be the most impactfull under the radar play..

1990 NFC Championship Game. The 49ers are winning and running out the clock. One more first down and it is over.

Erik Howard forces the Roger Craig fumble and LT recovers. From there, we move the ball just enough for a Matt Bahr field goal to go to the Superbowl.

Without that fumble recovery, we do not have our 2nd Superbowl victory.

I recall that play vividly, but in a different way than you. I don't recall LT being the guy with the recovery, because the part of the play that stuck out to me at the time was Howard's play. Not "causing the fumble" bcause it wasn't anything Howard did intentionally - his helmet simply struck the ball right out of Criag's (who was normally quite surehanded) grasp. Craig was in fact completely surprised by the hit, because Howard had to cleanly defeat a double team to even influence that play, let alone end up making the initial hit on Craig. Howard split the double team cleanly with a bull like forward thrust, and that was against a very good interior OL trio of the Niners - Cross, Sapuolo (I think) and maybe McIntyre? Craig I think was shocked at Erik Howard's presence coming right through that double team; he almost seemed to fumble out of surprise at getting hit from that angle, as anything else...

Running over two safeties against the Redskins to score a TD. Can't remember what year (97' I think) or if it was overly significant in the grand scheme of things, but it is a fond, distant memory of mine.

I don’t remember all the specifics of this one, but our only playoff game at MetLife where we completely dominated the Falcons there was a desperation 4 and short attempt by Matt Ryan on a QB sneak that was completely blown up and the stadium was rocking like never before or since. It was in the bag after that, and on to GB.

don't happen without Tony Romo missing wide open receivers in the 2007 playoff game and the 2011 JPP tipped FG game (which hasn't been mentioned yet). Tony Romo was a very important part of both of those Giant Super Bowl wins.

Given the circumstances, one of the best throws I've ever seen.
Two plays from XXV
Go Terps : 3/27/2019 11:39 am : link
1. Sean Landeta's 38 yard pooch punt pins Buffalo at the 10 with 2:12 remaining.

2. Everson Walls makes a "last man" tackle at the Buffalo 41 on Thurman Thomas's 22 yard run that could have gone much farther.

In a game that was won by inches, these yards really mattered.

Terps, those are beautiful examples of truly under the radar type plays, at ng with the Kinard tackle on Eric Dickerson noted above. All of them about the "inches that are everywhere around us."

Good stuff that hasn't been happening lately.

Everyone also remembers Ingram's play on the marathon first drive of the 3rd quarter, but he doesn't get that chance if Meggett doesn't make a play earlier on that drive.

3rd and 8 from the Giants 27, Meggett catches a check down at the 30 with 2 Bills closing in. He breaks a tackle and beats both of them for 10 yards.

The yards gained after contact by the Giants in that game by OJ, Meggett, and obviously Ingram were huge in sustaining the two drives that really won the game.

Who did he miss in the 2007 game?
Not really under the radar at the time but not talked about these days

I just doen't hear this play mentioned much anymore and when weighed for it's importance it feels under the radar at this point.

Phil McConkey's Super Bowl TD reception after the ball had bounced out of Bavaro's hands.

You mean the game where Aaron Ross dropped a pick six right in his gut that would have made it 28-17? If you’re going to play the Romo card, I’ll offer mine
The play that lost the game for the Cowboys in the 2007 playoff
BlueLou'sBack : 3/29/2019 4:04 pm : link
game - if you want to pick ONE - wasn't on Tony Romo. I've linked the video which shows it in replay with analysis. It was Patrick Crayton's fault for pulling up on his route.

Clear as 'ffin day Romo threw a beautiful ball off a perfect read of the man coverage without help over the top, but Crayton pulls up at the goal line when he's got Webster dead to rights. The ball was thrown exactly where it should have been.

If that was Eli throwing, at least half this board (prolly way more) would recall the play in an instant and nail the receiver to the wall for the blunder.

But it's Romo, so it's all Romo's fault.

Team had just given up 45pts and 35pts in our first two games. There was a goalline stand where we stuffed the Redskins on multiple plays. From there on our defense seemed to get it together and became a strength of the team.

i watched this on a jet blue plane coming back from florida. the whole plane cheered lol
Bad link. Just Google "2007 Patrick Crayton drop"
BlueLou'sBack : 3/29/2019 4:11 pm : link
And the YouTube video pops up.

Ball on 23 yard line with 21 seconds left.

IIRC, that wasn't Crayton's only mistake that game. He dropped a 3rd quarter likely TD or at least very long gain pass too.
