NFT: Remember Michael Jordan

allstarjim : 3/23/2019 7:28 am
Missing the playoffs in his age 33/34 season? Oh yeah, that's right, he won 69 games. 69-13.

Yeah yeah, LeBron missed 20 games, but he's played in 52 and the Lakers have 31 wins all year. Terrible. That would not happen with Jordan. MJ won 37 games with the Wizards in his age 38/39 season and only played in 60 games that year.

It's a joke anyone put LeBron in the same conversation as best ever with Jordan, a total joke.

But I remember him quitting for three years with all sorts of shady gambling stuff going on.

Lebron made the playoffs for 14 years in a row, often with no supporting cast. This is dumb.

See how that goes?

Or how NO brings up the insane amount of evidence to support the claim that David Stern sort of secretly ushered Jordan into “baseball retirement” because of a lengthy, damaging and downright terrifying gambling issue with Jordan? Dude, his dad was murdered. I wonder why?????

Jordan and stern were as shady as they come.

Often with no supporting cast? Um...no. The guy builds super teams. Earlier years...maybe.

And it isn’t hard to make the playoffs in the NBA when you have a player of Lebrons talent. Especially not in the East.

PhilSimms15 : 3/23/2019 11:12 am : link
But the main reason is that Michael played in an era of of hand-checking and lane protection. Lebron got to play in an offensively-oriented era that made it very difficult to guard and to hammer someone entering the lane.

Michael played against the Anthony Mason’s and John Starks and Xavier McDaniel. Lebron has had a much easier path.

Not to mention, the greatest player of all time might have been Jabbar.

Last years Cavs team was a super team? Because without Lebron they are a bottom 3 team in the league. The same roster he dragged to the finals.

Lebron deserves some blame for this year but if he doesn’t get hurt, the Lakers were going to the playoffs. The real blame falls on magic and Pelinka. They deserve to be fired.

Lonzo Ball who isn't good by any stretch has missed significant time. LeBron has missed a good stretch. Who else is on that team? Kuzma is a nice player. Ingram too. That's about it.

I think the joy is the combination of Lebron failing because he didn’t get his superteam yet combined with the Lakers failure.

We can all agree that the lakers sucking is enjoyable to all.

Oh definitely fuck the Lakers. Only thing I'm concerned about is how they finish out. Watch them end up getting the #1 pick in the draft. I'd be done with the NBA.

trueblueinpw : 3/23/2019 1:06 pm : link
But he did play with really strong players and that hasn’t always been the case with King James. Jordan was a killer, he worked harder than anyone else and I think the reason he took time off to play baseball was that he was bored beating up on the rest of the league.

I’ll say this too though, I think MJ was a world class scumbag. As a Knicks fan, I fucking hated that guy. King James doesn’t seem like a bad guy and he’s clearly the best player of his time.

Follow the money. Jordan was gone for a year. He wasn’t gone forever.

I’m sorry, but that whole Jordan baseball thing just reeked of bullshit. Said it then, saying it now. The most competitive and successful athlete of our generation just says ehhh fuck it I want to play a new sport now. And then he comes back one year later? Fuck outta here with that crap. That’s a conspiracy I can buy in to because the “explanation” of it all was ridiculous and hard to believe.
And if you don’t think Stern
djm : 3/23/2019 1:24 pm : link
Was capable of covering that thing up you’re nuts. Stern was a master of that shit. Think goodell with better bed side manner. Dozens of insiders or people in the know have corroborated this.

What better way to ensure Jordan’s legacy while punishing him and distancing the nba from the whole gambling thing then to hide Jordan away in butthump farm league baseball. It worked perfectly.

So is this...

James would have crushed defenders in isolation with no 5 second rule.

The only joke here is to claim its a joke to compare James to Jordan. Hes in the conversation. No joke about that.

Jordan may have played in that era against those players, but let's face it. The 2nd half of his Bulls career, doing those things to Jordan got you a quick whistle. Even Magic once joked "don't breathe on him, you'll get called for a foul".

Also - if you don't think the Lakers will win the lottery and get Zion Williamson to play with LeBron next year, you haven't been paying attention.

If you want to believe David Stern somehow forced MJ out of basketball in the fall of '93, I got nothing for ya. And how that would manage to stay unverified for almost 26 years is LOL.

It's a funny conspiracy. The '85 draft is much more likely to be true.

I absolutley believe Stern forced him out and it actually made sense $ wise. It got more interest from other cities on the fringe of success like Indiana, for example. Then he comes back and wears #45 with new Jordan sneakers. His jersey sales went through the roof and then a couple of years later (or 1 year later) switch back to 23 and sales are up again.

I guess.

MJ retirement was all about him chasing a dream. He said back then baseball was his first love. He had won 3 championships in a row. Then retired, then won 3 more in a row. Talk to me about LeBron making Finals in a dogshit East over the past decade, like whoop di doo. Jordan destroyed all comers.

This is correct. Plus, if you recall, Jordan loved baseball. It was his first love for sports. His father wanted him to keep playing. After his dad died Jordan was in this rut and decided he needed to honor his dad by giving baseball a go. Fortunately, Reinsdorf also owned the White Sox, so it created an easy pathway to play baseball.

in Jordan’s class. Hell, I struggle to put LeBron above Bird or Magic.

Bird was significantly more clutch and Magic was an exponentially better leader and winner.

I was a young teenager but Jordan’s best years were his first five in Chicago when he didn’t win. His team was undermanned trying to deal with the Celtics and Pistons, but he was the most amazing combination of athlete and basketball I’ve ever seen. The blend of speed, quickness, jumping ability and basketball IQ were extraordinary. There were no nights off and there really was a will to kill.

When reflecting, I feel very fortunate to have seen Jordan in his prime. And nothing matched the 12+ times I saw him live.

Bird struggled in the playoffs way more than LeBron has. LeBrons FT shooting is pretty weak, but he’s one of the clutchest players in the history of the sport. His Big Game track record is pretty insane.

But because he doesn’t have the “Assassin” mindset of Kobe or Birs, he’s considered less clutch despite a better clutch resume. Pretty sad.

LeBron's playoff numbers are gaudier than Bird's - true.

But Bird "struggled" in the playoffs? Really? Interesting. His traditional stats are virtually the same in the regular season vs playoffs. And I guess those two Finals MVP are signs of under-performance.

Look, it's hard to even discuss that era, especially in the playoffs. The East back then was brutal with the Sixers, Pistons, Bulls, Knicks, Bucks, etc. The style of play was rough in the regular season and brutal in the playoffs.
