Hello. The Simpsons is one of my all-time favorite shows, such great memories and I remember the 90s Simpsons very well. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on when they thought the "good old days/golden era" were done with.
And death of Phil Hartman. Started hiring no talent sjw writers who were lackeys of the corporate execs. During the golden age Homer was a character with depth and rounded.
Similary golden age of Family Guy ended shortly after Consuella.
I miss the days of episodes w homer getting stuck in the water slide. Simple fun.
Yeah, when South Park's golden days started, around 99/2000 or so. SP's first two seasons were fine, but they started to really get things going in season 3, just made me just stop watching the Simpsons completely.
loved it in the 90's and 00's. I probably stopped watching 10 years ago.
hard to pinpoint an end for me. I think I just grew out of it, but Homer Simpson, Michael Scott and George Costanza are three of my all-time favorite sitcom characters. So many classic episodes of all three shows.
One of them was Marge vs the Monorail, which is an alltime classic and another was Homer Goes to college (very underrated), but his contribution to the show is overestimated by many.
On the contrary he credits the Simpsons for saving his career after being fired as a writer from SNL or maybe he just left, I forget - but the Simpsons he says "energized" him.
The quality of the show started to drop at the same time that Futurama premiered. I don’t know what went on behind the scenes with the writers, but that had to have a direct impact.
Is unwatchable to me. Anything prior, I can watch for hours on end. I just DVRed season 9 and every episode is a gas. Trouble With Trillions is just awesome in every possible way.
One of my favorite shows ever...until 2000 that is!

When the Simpsons were going on too many wacky adventures and leaving America, felt weird

So i saw this comment yesterday and scoffed/rolled my eyes at the sjw comment. And maybe that put it on my radar so that i checked it out last night. First time ive watched a new episode in easily 15 or 16 years. And as luck would have it, Bart joined a female group of sjw's and the episode culminates in him spraypainting "the patriarchy is a weiner" on a wall. Worst of all Homer was relegated to a minor character. May have had 3 lines in the entire episode.
I dont know if thats representative of the outlook of the show now but good God, how annoying.

People were pushing for the Apu character to be removed from the show because he perpetuated negative Indian stereotypes. No-f-ing shit, it's comedy.
Is imo still the greatest 5 season stretch in comedy show history.
Season 8 was still good, with some great episodes, but that's when the overall tone of the show began to shift. The majority of the writers from the golden era were gone by that season.
In season 9, Mike Scully became showrunner and that was all she wrote as far as the Simpsons golden era was concerned.

Homer's phobia was season 8. I still consider those days golden lol

Good adult cartoon watching for 20 years.

I love the hair episode in season 2. "You are SO beautiful to me", the one where Harvey whatever is the voice of Karl.
He wrote 4 episodes for them in the early 90's.

King Size Homer
Last Exit to Springfield
Who Shot Mr. Burns? For that Madonna Tailhook joke alone.
I would say around 2003ish. The golden age ended some time in the late 90s.

Legend has it, a few of them are haunting this very message board still to this day...
