I’m not an avid follower of college football at this point, having a four year old kind of limits me to watching football on Sundays only at this point lol. Knowing we need a decent receiver, particularly a taller one, what are realistic options for us, especially if we wait until round 2-3 to address the position?
A couple of guys I've seen play who I like and should be available in later rounds...
Riley Ridley (UGA)
Lil' Jordan Humphrey (TEX)
Emanuel Hall (MIZ)
Watch Harry and youll see a guy with nice toughness and good catch ability but almost no separation ability against half decent CBs.
That puts his ceiling fairly low in the NFL.
Hakeem separates much better than he does and can put his foot in the ground sink his hips pretty incredibly for a 6'6 guy. Ive seen him juke much smaller DBs to the point of falling down on multiple occasions.
Parris is impressive and likely just touching the surface with his ability. Better pro than college player projection like OBJ (obviously not same level) but tremendous tools. Id take him at 37 in a second. But itd be hard to pass up OT.
I think Marquise Brown is going to be really good - but he's going to be off the board before we're looking WR I think.
Just too many glaring needs on D to fill and too many players likely available to fill them, plus I'd assume the team is gonna grab Haskins at 6, and then an OT at 17, 37, or 95.
There's no space for a high end WR in this draft, and I think this is part of the philosophical roster building approach shift by DG. The allocation of resources is going to change; it is already in the midst of change.
2018 production: 96 catches for 1345 yds, 14.4 average.
Transferred from Tenn, where he did nothing, and exploded in the right offense. Not fast, but his talent is for real.
2018 Highlights - ( New Window )
Darius Slayton - ( New Window )
I am assuming no qb pick here which may be a rebuttable presumption
But picking up a quality ER or LB, OT and CB with our first three picks should leave a quality wr available to us.
I don't think Hakeem Butler would fall all the way to #95 but someone like Emanuel Hall could drop. Also someone like Lil Jordan Humphrey or David Sills would work.
I want someone with top level speed to stretch the zones and push the safeties back and open things up for our other weapons.
My concern is that our O without Beckham will look like the Cows O before they traded for the speedster Amari Cooper
Miles Boykin is a guy I could see DG snagging in the 3-4 rounds.

We want a downfield guy to complement what we have in Tate AND Shep. Not the great underneath guys; that takes out Deebo, AJ Brown, Ridley and a few others
But Hakeem and Parris Campbell wow. Both would be excellent picks if we somehow went WR at 37.

Is my favorite but not sure where he will go at this point.

Like Joey said I think DG is going to target a WR with size. It’s been a while since the Giants have had a quality Big WR.
I am also very intrigued with Emanuel Hall. His YPC have been unreal the last two years, like 22+. Hasn't caught a ton of balls, but when he did he was a pain in the ass to deal with.
Andy Isabella is going to be fun to watch. A speed demon, slot guy with great hands. Needs to get more physical, but picture Welker or Edelman with better speed.
I saw one Toledo game this year against FIU in the Bahamas Bowl. Friend of mine told me to check out their sophomore QB Eli Peters. Well, while I watching the game, I was impressed with their slot guy Dionte Johnson. Smallish, but good hands and deceptive speed and movement.
And AJ Brown did really well during interviews.

6-1, with extreme speed and good hands. He went up against Greedy Williams three times this past season taking the ball to the house and leaving Williams in the dust. Can run a 4.3, but most impressive is his "instant speed" from a standstill. No other receiver comes close to his instant speed and if free, he's gone like the wind.
I also love Butler as the best WR in the draft and love Miles Boykin who's numbers are off the charts.
We should be able to come up with a receiver to stretch the field and replace OBJ

Hall popped out several times when I was looking at Lock. Definitely a big play - stretch the field guy. Not small, either. He has pretty decent size to go with his speed. Has a penchant for getting behind DB's.
I can see a bigger DeSean Jackson. Mike Wallace is a solid comp for him too.
He's probably one of those guys who will have really big games some weeks when you connect on him with a big play or two - but will also have weeks where he just doesn't really show up at all.
Needs work and isn't that polished - but there's talent there and if we want another guy who can help blow the top off, he can help.
Still thinking a more physical guy who will help more in the RZ would be a better look for us - which is why I really like Butler. This is a guy who can overpower some smaller DB's and just outmatch them on 50/50 balls.
Giving a young QB a target like that can be hugely beneficial.
I'd also like another receiver or two out of this strain group. I'd love to get a guy like Paris Campbell, Deebo Samuel, Andy Isabella, or even Gary Jennings. These guys can be tough to defend on the underneath crossing routes which is why we went with Tate even though we have Shepard.
This came up during Lock's interview. The guy missed tons of games with varying injuries. Great YPC, but how many balls did he catch? Poor knowledge of routes supposedly, inconsistent hands, great combine and a real foo's gold candidate if you ask me.
Just copied and pasted from TDN. *Shrugs*
Miles Boykin is a guy I could see DG snagging in the 3-4 rounds.
Same. Reminds me of Brandon Marshall.
Eli really shouldn't play into the equation at all. He's likely going to play with a WR we draft for - at most - one season.
But Eli was at his best when he had a legit SE with size on the outside (Burress) - he also did really well with Nicks there. The back shoulder timing routes we ran with those two were un-guardable when they were on.
We've had a tough time getting a player in that spot who has the type of skillset it feels like we've been lacking.
We've been strong in the slot... from Steve Smith to Cruz to Shep. Now Tate is here. Obviously we had Beckham - who was/is a top flight "Z" - but we may need to push Shep out there now with Tate here since Tate will be the primary "Y" in any 3 WR set.
We had the right idea with Brandon Marshall - he's the "X" we've been lacking - we were just about 2 years late on that.
But... I don't think it matters who the QB is as much as what type of offense we want to be. Even in a WCO, you can still benefit from having a bigger target outside.
For us, Shurmur likes to run PA Floods and use the Sail concept. You can even do this with Shepard/Tate/Barkley/Engram - you'll have Tate slot right, Shepard outside right, Engram next to Solder on the left and Barkley as the single back.
You can have Engram run a shallow cross across the field to the right, have the slot (Tate) go 10 and out, and then have Shepard on the outside run a vertical route/deep post that breaks in towards the middle of the field. Barkley can chip/stay in to block/leak out in the flat. You can also do this with a better blocking TE like Ellison and have Barkley run a swing.
It's more important that the players fit your concepts and that you have the ability to maximize their abilities.
Could be wrong, but this point I am not sure he makes it to 37 but defintiely not too much after that.
Him or Parris Campbell would be amazing. However between OT ,QB, ER and even CB, WR is 5th on that list. However if he's obvious BPA.....
Preston Williams is this year's Antonio Callaway
We have 2 of those guys already in Tate and Shep.
We need the stretch the field guy /downfield threat .
Nicks was more of a game-breaker. But Harmon just doesn't have the speed or burst. But he is a guy that can move the sticks and play very physically going for the ball. Very good attributes.
