Just an unstoppable force when healthy both blocking and receiving. As close to Bavaro as Giants fans have seen. Too bad like Bavaro, his body was held together with tape and a string by the end.
But great player and best to him - also awesome on Crashletes that endeared him to my son.
... gets me to wondering how great Mark Bavaro would have been if he played with Tom Brady.
Bavaro played in a day with a different offensive style, of course. but he would have been a beast in today's NFL. Belichick would have loved coaching Bavaro
And he's sitting on a pile of cash. Still says he hasn't spent a cent of his NFL contract money Lives off endorsements, bonus money (from winning super bowls, pro-bowls etc.
He's made over $50M in contract money I believe.
As Impactful an Offensive Player as any Non QB ???? Â
Gronk could Block...Flex...Play from Base set.... He is an Historic "Field Tilter" as a Blocker, Decoy, and Target. He's been the foremost "Reason" for the Pats Offensive Success over the past 6-8 years---perhaps as important as Brady
the last few weeks, about Gronk being a part time player, where he wouldn't play half the season, and then be signed and be "fresh" for the second half and the playoffs.....
Rumor has it, he has stockpiled his money....good for him....if he stays in the Boston area, he would never have to buy a drink/meal again....

kind of a knucklehead with mostly good intentions. A truly different tight end, though. The LT (not JPP) of TEs. Made the position very strategically important. Strong physicality when blocking or with the ball in his hands. Got to be 1st ballot.
I have a feeling one of them is gonna be traded to the Patriots.
The common rumor is to trade Shep entering the last year of his contract. But with Gronk retiring, Engram could be dealt. Not as a replacement of Gronk, but as a cost-controlled weapon for Tom. Bill will draft a TE (I doubt Hockenson lasts to #32, but they could trade up).

Wasn't it Bellichek who wistfully reminisced Bavaro going up against LT in practice? Might have been Tuna.

It was Belichick. He gets asked - probably at an annoying frequency - about Gronk vs Bavaro.
He always alludes to Bavaro being the better player. Says Bavaro would be 1 on 1 vs Reggie White often and in many cases Bavaro would win that battle. And then he talks about Bavaro in practice ve LT and Banks. I love hearing Belichick talk Bavaro/old Giants days.
Scarnecchia has his work cut out for him now

with Gronk and Brown both gone. I"m sure he will find a way to give Brady a clean pocket per usual.

Still used him tight end sets in red zone but he became more of decoy and safety valve.
Wonder if Pats go after Fant or Hockenson in draft.
Arguably the greatest all-around TE.
Just unstoppable at times.

He beat Seattle, Atlanta and LA. He lost to the Giants and Eagles.

Only an opinion of course and his great years only numbered around 5, but Bavaro was the best overall TE I ever saw
Arguably the greatest all-around TE.
Agreed.
Larry has been keeping in shape, take a look

Can an OL coach be elected to the HOF?
