Each draft season each team is entitled to have 30 formal visits from prospects. This is in addition to prospects who play locally, for which I don't believe there is a limit. And teams are also free to talk/meet with any prospects at the Combine, pro days, etc.
There are two things which can be assumed for the formal private meetings; first, the Giants have some level of interest in the prospect, and secondly, there are things they feel they don't know that they need to find out.
History has shown that the most players with which the Giants have private meetings don't necessarily get taken, and most Giants draftees, often including first round choices, don't usually have a private meeting. That said, these are the private meetings reported to date by Walter Football, FWIW:
Josh Allen, 3-4OLB/OLB, Kentucky
Michael Deiter, G, Wisconsin
Jaylon Ferguson, DE/3-4OLB, Louisiana Tech
Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State
Tytus Howard, OT, Alabama State
Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State
Olive Sagapolu, DT/NT, Wisconsin

"Durable, capable guard/center prospect who knows how to play the game but might lack the athletic elements needed to become a full-time starter on the next level. Dieter's experience in a variety of pro-style rushing schemes and his overall technique work are in his favor while his experience across the line offer flexibility that could lock him into an NFL roster as an early backup with the potential to step in and start if needed."
Why?
Wow, that's a big man! Listed at 6'8" 311, but judging by photos, it's more likely he may have BEEN 311 once upon a time.
News article on Howard - ( New Window )
LOTS of interest in the NFL with visits to Carolina and Eagles as well.

"Ascending tackle prospect who will require additional work with technique and in the weight room to fully realize his potential. Howard is a gifted athlete with rare quickness and fluidity as both a run and pass blocker and his play issues are correctable with more work. While he will be dinged for level of competition, his upside was on full display with his play against Auburn. He needs development, but he's much more than a developmental prospect and could find a starter's spot within his first two years."

is going to be high on OT Howard
Why?
Looking at what he's drafted at OT in the past.
I am reading as high as a middle 1st.
Where does he get drafted?
Are the Giants looking at 17 for him ?
Seems like a big reach.
I don't think Howard will get selected at a higher slot than Armstead did, but early in the 3rd round is possible if not likely. He's the kind of guy maybe we package one of our 4th round picks with our 3rd at 95 and try to move up 10-20 lots.
Armstead was also labeled "developmental" but I think started at some point his rookie year. Armstead is surely the most athletic OL in the NFL, and demonstrated in spades at the combine. Wikipedia says he started the last 4 games of his rookie year.
AT LEFT TAKCLE. GUESS WHO HE BEAT OUT? CHARLES BROWN, SOUND FAMILIAR?
Developmental or not, Howard could beat out Wheeler as a rookie.
No problem with that, as long as he's the second OT Gettleman drafts. :)

I wasn't aware of that.
I thought those typically take place after pro days and closer to the draft.

They had a dinner last week.

Was underwhelming at the senior bowl. Maybe they saw something they could fix or his tape says otherwise.
This is a good point DG is a film junkie who watches loads of film. He also has a reputation for finding lineman not as highly regarded by others and developing them. With all our picks this is what we need in this draft. to turn this thing quickly.
Dieter in rd.4 or late rd.3 as the back up OG/OC with him being worked at C for competition for Pio/Pulley.
LOTS of interest in the NFL with visits to Carolina and Eagles as well.

Zeirline doesnt pull punches. That is a pretty glowing review from him.
