He needs to understand that "you lose because you're defenseless"
If you score you may win, but if they don't score you will never lose.
'DEE FENSE ! DEE FENSE ! DEE FENSE !
You'll never stop them from scoring.Scoring is what the league wants Â
than your opponent. It doesn't matter is that is 10-7 or 38-35. You need some combination of both, not one or the other. No team has ever won a game without scoring.
And will be needed more then ever because of the flag football rules we have now ... especially a defense against 4th and 15 ... LOL
That's a lovely cliche, but hardly has anything to do with winning football games in the NFL. Building on one side of the ball and not the other is a good way to be consistently mediocre.
And once it's said by a successful team's FO / coaches / players, or even just the right mouthpiece, it's just parroted endlessly regardless of context
While those don't relate to specific stats, they say being good at scoring OR stopping the other team from scoring is 'the right / only way' when obviously it's both (among other things, like field position). And from that I'd consider net scoring. It's not the only stat but if ONE stat best reflects Ws / Ls that's it, and directly relates to all other #s be it O/D yards, RZ / 3rd down %s, even individual play (esp at QB) etc
Of course roster construction, league trends and the like all factor, and HOW it's implemented is more important than just these platitudes. But that's why 'best offense is a good D..." or "D wins championships" is fluff. Sure, if you execute AND are still good at some other key fundamentals. IMO it's obvious but gets lost in our need for soundbites
You're welcome.
Sorry, but the best defense is - and always will be - a good offense.

If you can have a solid run game to control the clock while scoring and have an adequate defense, then you will win.
No -like- product - no -buy- product.
