NFT: Ringer's Top 50 Movies of 1999

Joey from GlenCove : 3/26/2019 9:18 am
I didn't realize 1999 was an amazing year for movies. I've seen 34/50.

I have no real issue with the top 10.

I pasted the link for 50-26 below
Rank 50-26 - ( New Window )
What a good year for movies

Guilty pleasure movie for me is Varsity Blues.
How did you see the top 25 already?
dep026 : 3/26/2019 9:45 am : link
And there is no way there were 33 better films than Green Mile.

seems largely representative of what my own picks would look like. May have played with the order a bit.

1. Fight Club
2. Matrix
3. Magnolia
4. Eyes Wide Shut
5. Being John Malkovich

It's amazing how Fight Club's message has only become more relevant today. Now, a harder question, David Fincher's best movies!

Would flip The Social Network with Fight Club and move Gone Girl behind Zodiac, but otherwise I think you nailed it. Awesome director, hope there's a new movie coming from him soon. It's been too long

I think I’d go:

1. Zodiac
2. Social Network
3. Fight Club

But each is an absolute masterwork in its own right.

Feel like Fincher has moved over to TV.
Yeah

He was involved with Mindhunter on Netflix which is pretty great and definitely has his trademark look and style. Hope he's not exclusively in TV though
man, GalaxyQuest is 20 years old?

I feel so ollllllllld
anyway, after looking at that list
Greg from LI : 3/26/2019 11:24 am : link
There are some very questionable choices. Some teen dreck ranked way too high.
Bowfinger is one of the most
UConn4523 : 3/26/2019 11:35 am : link
underrated comedies of all time. i remember seeing it 2 or 3 times in theaters when it came out.
Any best movie list with "Eyes Wide Shut" on it at all is suspect
BillT : 3/26/2019 11:39 am : link
That it's anywhere near the top 10, even for a single year, is enough to discredit the whole enterprise.
as for Fincher here's mine
UConn4523 : 3/26/2019 11:40 am : link
Fight Club (1999)
Seven (1995)
The Social Network (2010)
Zodiac (2007)
The Game (1997)
Panic Room (2002)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
Gone Girl (2014)

I hated Gone Girl. Its a story of two movies, the really good first half and the terrible second half.

I hated Gone Girl, too, but not nearly as much as I hated Benjamin Button. Absolute garbage.
Varsity Blues - not guilty, just great even if awful
ChaChing : 3/26/2019 5:49 pm : link
soundtrack (Hot for Teacher strip scene, ACDC, Foo), fantastic lines in awful accents "i dont wahnt ur liiife" and "you are the damn dumbest smart kid I know." Oh and classic Ali Larter whipped cream bikini

Bowfinger shout out too:

"Hey Laker Girls!?!?"

<opens trenchcoat, girls laugh>

"IT AINT FUNNY!!"
