Not much to discuss right now about the Knicks as we wait for this dreadful season to officially end, but I found this tidbit from Zach Lowe interesting....
“Sacramento moved up in the lottery again — to No. 2 — and faced a pivotal moment: the chance to reorient their team around Luka Doncic,” writes Lowe. “Rivals sensed the dilemma and made offers for Fox — including a template from the New York Knicks centered around Kristaps Porzingis that would have required Sacramento to either send something beyond Fox or take unwanted Knicks salary (or both), sources say.” |
If true, it dispels the notion the Knicks were simply responding to a midseason KP trade request - they've been heading for divorce for quite some time. It certainly appears the Knicks had doubts about his ability to stay healthy and lead a winning team, which is fine, but the PR spin was always transparent. Fox would've been a great NYC point guard, but hopefully we find another one this summer.
As for the current state of affairs, Frank re-injured his groin and will probably be shut down. Have to wonder if his Knicks career is over. Knox rolled his ankle the other day, but it sounds like he'll be fine. He's been picking up his shooting percentages in March. Otherwise, wake me up on lottery night.
1) He was upset with Fizdale for saying he wasn't sprinting and yet said this week he and Janis never intended on him playing in 2019.
2) Did the Knicks know this and just lied to the fans? or did KP and Janis keep this from the Knicks? Or is this new spin by KP?
What other divas have been bred at the Garden?
Tho looking at it most FAs or top players seem at least a little questionable. Kyrie / AD / Kawhai all screwed a team by hinting/saying they're leaving, or Kawhai's situation in SA (a model franchise?), KD pretty thin skinned. Maybe Kemba & Middleton have less or no baggage? It is what it is, but in the past I would have avoided a lot of those types. Now it seems impossible even thru the draft
It sounds like KP never had any intention of playing this season. That is very telling in itself. It makes sense to play it safe, but you want the player to be held back by the team.
Well, perhaps bred isn't the right word, but a lot of selfish tendencies are exposed here - Tyson Chandler comes to mind, as does a knucklehead like JR Smith. Rose and Melo had their moments, and of course Phil Jackson takes the cake with his egomaniacal ways. KP was a breath of fresh air when he arrived, and quickly went south. Hopefully this is the summer we put together a group of 7-8 players who buy and play like a team - Trier, Robinson, Knox, Dotson and Frank seem like guys who buy in. That's a start.
And he nosedived into his old ways after that. Rose has always been weird too. He and Melo are the same in that what made them great players necessitated selfishness. They were scorers, not catch and shoot, play off the ball guys.
Maybe that is why kp was so mad
