The ridiculous proposal to replace onside kicks with having teams run a 4th and 15 play from their own 35 has thankfully been defeated, according to the NFL Network.

It's hard to put into words just how against that stupid rule John Mara was, but even he feared it would pass.

Competition committee members needs some changes...

...if they aprroved this for a vote of all 32 teams. Just awful judgement.
Good.

Is there an echo in here?
I agree with John Mara

Just wanted to take the opportunity to say that.

Echo? - ( New Window )
good!

Evan Roberts had a couple of good thoughts on this, saying if implemented, a 1st down could not be achieved by, e.g., a PI penalty of 15 or > yards, and then the slippery slope.... Once you impose restrictions, limitations, it begins to expose the foolhardiness of this proposal.
But
myquealer : 3/26/2019 5:38 pm : link
onside kicks are virtually impossible to recover with recent changes to kickoff rules.

Do any of you who are against this proposal have a better suggestion?

I'm not sure the exact proposal, but I say replace all kickoffs with 4th and 15, which will usually result in the team punting the ball deep, but they will have the option of trying a fake punt to catch the other team off guard, or run a play to try to pick up a first down.
it's a horrible idea
GiantsFan84 : 3/26/2019 6:25 pm : link
absolutely horrible
just make onside kicks the same as they were before
GiantsFan84 : 3/26/2019 6:25 pm : link
stop destroying the game

Unless you have OBJ on the "Hands" team making business decisions like Cam in the Superbowl.

Onside kicks SHOULD be almost impossible to pull off. You don’t want to have to try an onside kick? Don’t get your ass kicked for 58 minutes and put yourself in that position
Geez.

Glad it failed.

I'd opt to onsides kick every single time against the Giants if it passed.
go back

to the old rule. There was nothing wrong with it.
That’s awesome!

This one really bothered me. I am really tired of all the rule changes year after year.
People saying go back to old way

They determined it was player safety issue so it's not happening.

A better solution is to let the team that played better the first 58 minutes win the game. I hate rules that give the lesser team a better chance to win.
