I lost my Puggle to the Hills Science Diet I/D food
montanagiant : 3/26/2019 8:52 pm : link
He was having some issues with throwing up, within one week of getting prescribed Hills Science Diet I/D Pate he had a seizure at the vets office and passed. We found the tainted can which had an overdose of Vitamin D with 90% eaten out of it in our refrigerator.

These damn Dog Food companies need to get better suppliers and not go the most inexpensive route

I will support Darwins here.

I have used them for 4 years now. They were very upfront about the supposed positive test the FDA found. They sent emails out and were ahead of the curve. My dog had one of the packages from those lots and he was fine.

Dogs have more acidic bodies and can handle certain foods better than humans. The food is raw so there will be traces of salmonella from time to time. The food goes through a process to preserve the nutrients while killing the bacteria. Yes, there is risk associated with it but even with one of the supposed lots my dog has heen extremely healthy and I will continue to buy their product.

Here is the email I got from Darwin's in response to the FDA's public announcement which is kind of funny since this was known about months ago and they waited until now to issue the warning.

Quote:
Today the FDA issued a public warning regarding three lots of Darwin’s poultry meals for dogs produced last fall, which were delivered to customers back in November and early December 2018. These are the same lots which we alerted customers about via email last month.

We’re disappointed in the FDA’s decision to issue a public warning. We think this warning is unnecessary, as we are confident these meals have been completely consumed without incident. We have contacted the customers who received the meals and have not received any medical reports of illnesses to pets or humans attributable to these meals. As we have shared with our customers before, we believe that at no time did these meals pose any danger to either humans or pets.

We believe that the FDA chose to issue this warning not out of any concern for human or pet health, but in retaliation for our refusal to agree to their demands to provide them with our customers’ confidential contact information. When we informed them that to do so would violate the terms of our privacy policy, they threatened to issue a public warning to pressure us into doing so. When we refused this request, the FDA gave us an ultimatum. Subsequently, they retaliated by issuing their warning.

We remain fully confident these meals are safe, and until now have cooperated with the FDA on every request they have made on this matter. We did this even though the FDA failed to provide samples for us to verify their test results independently, as they are required to do by law.

Darwin’s privacy policy is to protect our customers’ personal information, and it precludes us from sharing it with third parties without permission. Although we were willing to reach out to customers and ask for permission to provide their contact information to the FDA, the FDA would not accept that approach.

This warning is not a recall. We’ve shared with you many times in the past why our meals are safe, starting with the high-quality sourcing of our ingredients and the steps we take to control pathogens such as Salmonella.

We are not certain why the FDA has found it necessary to issue a warning, especially after we have worked closely with them. We are disappointed they only did this after our refusal to provide customers’ personal information to them. We remain committed to providing safe, healthy, nutritious meals for your pets. As always, we appreciate your continued patronage and your support of our mission.

If you have any questions for on this, please feel free to contact us at 877-738-6325 or info@darwinspet.com.

When we reached out to you last week about food safety, we did not expect to be emailing again so soon on the topic. After we sent that note, we received a call from the FDA informing us that they found the presence of Salmonella in three lots of our poultry meals for dogs which were produced in October and early November of last year. Our records indicate you have received one or more of these meals, which are listed below.

While we remain confident that these meals do not pose a risk to your pet, we wanted to reach out to you as part of our commitment to transparency with our customers. Also, we want to remind you that the FDA’s website confirms that Salmonella is not a risk to healthy dogs and cats -https://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/ResourcesforYou/AnimalHealthLiteracy/ucm509766.htm#dogs.

We believe these meals are safe to feed your pet for several reasons. These meals were delivered to customers two to three months ago, and our experience indicates that most (if not all) of these meals have already been consumed. Due to our direct relationships with customers, we would have heard input and feedback from multiple customers by now if this food affected their pets. That has not happened, nor have we received any medical reports of illnesses to pets or humans due to these meals.

Additionally, we have concerns and questions about the FDA’s tests, due to inconsistencies and discrepancies in the reports they provided to us. Also, although the FDA is required to provide us its retained samples of any products they test - so we can verify those results with an independent lab - they did not retain any samples so we could do so.

The lots tested by the FDA are:

Lot #5309 - Natural Selections Chicken Meals for Dogs (Manufacture date: Oct 19, 2018)Lot #5339 - Natural Selections Turkey Meals for Dogs (Manufacture date: Oct 26, 2018)Lot #5375 - Natural Selections Chicken Meals for Dogs (Manufacture date: Nov 6, 2018)

If you still have any of this food and have concerns about its safety, we recommend you lightly cook the food. Of course, for the benefit of your own health and safety, we always encourage safe handling practices of our meals that we list on every package – i.e., clean all surfaces after using them, and wash your hands with soap and warm water after handling.

If you prefer not to feed meals from the lots listed above to your pet, please discard any remaining products, and contact us at 866-832-8319 or info@darwinspet.com for refund or replacement.

Good thing they refrained from branding it their
