Gettleman creating smokescreen for Gary at #6?

CromartiesKid21 : 4/13/2019 8:16 am
From some knowledgeable Panthers fans they say this smokescreen looks like a few seasons ago.

"I can totally see Gettleman falling in love with Gary just like he did with Vernon Butler.

He does things like this on purpose hoping the media will eat up the Murray story so that the Gary visit gets less attention"

I know a lot of BBI including Sy loved Butler coming into the league who turned out to be a most hated bust by Panther fans. They were coming off a 15-1 season with KK Short and Loutuliei playing at an All-pro level. But instead of addressing other needs DG took another DT in Butler when fans were screaming for help to supplement the roster elsewhere.

Why?
BigBlueShock : 4/13/2019 8:19 am : link
There is no need to create a “smokescreen” for Gary. He will be there at 6. We can only hope, however, if this is the case that another team is stupid enough to draft him in the top 5 to save us from ourselves.

After watching teams run the ball at will against us last year, Gary would be a huge upgrade for us.
No one seems to know who the Giants will take, which is a very good

dep, I have no problem with Gary. I do have a problem with him a 6. Just my personal preference but I’m not looking for a “run stuffer” that high. Run stuffers can be found later in the draft.

I think his passing rushing skills will surprise people. Again, if there’s someone like Allen or Williams there - id prefer them. But if it goes..

Murray
Bosa
Allen
Williams
White...

It would be down between Gary and Oliver to me and I see more value with Gary.

On guy said something that stuck: Guy takes plays off, not a consistent effort.

Is that the legitimate concern on him

No. People looking at his senior film always fail to disclose his injury which should have been a season ender but he played through it for the team.
Not looking this year but

You guys have me in on Oliver vs Gary.

That said, DTs might be dropping

6. Q Williams
17. Oliver
37. Gary

Sick DL for years to come. Run Gary at OLB as extra rush player on pass downs.
He’s not going too 5. I could be wrong but
LauderdaleMatty : 4/13/2019 8:39 am : link
I see ZERO reason he would be the pick there for anyone.

Too many other guys w measurables that match his w better production Match his

Wilkins. Sweat. Oliver of u want to go DL. Suppose Q Will falls?

Maybe they like him but don’t see it

Wilkins

Is already 24 I think and almost 25? Too old imo to take at 6. His prime is almost over at the end of his rookie deal, and if he has a good career won’t be as long.
I havent followed all his interviews this year like I did last spring
Jimmy Googs : 4/13/2019 8:57 am : link
but last year was slam dunk. But all this shit about winning now clearly doesn't signal QB. I will try to find a few as of late and tell you who the pick is in a bit... :-)

He's one of those guys that always leave you wanting for more relative to his talent level.

Got to hope Q falls or Oak is willing to trade down for the right price. Giants have a tendency to think they can coach up almost anyone with high talent (See Flowers and Apple).

Those double teams often made many others on that defense look really good.

dumb. There is no reason to create a smokescreen for Gary. Nobody else gives a sh#t.

That said, taking Gary wouldn't be as "stupid" as taking Vernon Butler when he had Star & Short. If Gary hits he's one of those game-wreckers in the mold of J.J. Watt or Calais Campbell.

The Giants could use that kind of presence over the RT and have an immediate need for a 5T & a pass rusher. If that's Gary, it's nothing like the Butler pick.

Not sure how you can state this point when those two players were drafted (and coached) by people that aren't here anymore and jettisoned by the people that are.

Rjanyg : 4/13/2019 4:03 pm : link
He has the speed of an OLB and the size of a 4-3 DE.

He can play in the multiple front scheme that Bettcher runs. He is good against run and good as a pass rusher.

You can’t just go on stats.

I am intrigued by him, but admittedly not sure about what kind of pro he will be.

But the same can be said for Oliver. Apparently he can standup and play ILB. It would be interesting to see us go with a defensive Jumbo and have him and Ogletree diving at holes on 3rd and short. I really think Oliver might be the pick. Sy likened him to Geno Atkins and others have said he has a Tedy Bruschi game about him. That sounds like hell for an O line to deal with in addition to the guys we currently have. I wouldnt even be opposed to Oliver at 6 and Lawrence at 17. Build this team up front like Philly did two years ago.
