That's takes QB out of the equation. Which is good if you don't want the spectre of Daniel Jones at 6 or 17 ...or you want this team to be as ready to compete next year as possible.
Some players at 6 and 17 who fit immediate starter status and are fits for our team:
Bosa
Allen, Josh
Quentin Williams
Oliver
White
Bush
Dexter Lawrence
Greedy Williams
Baker
Jaylon Ferguson
Burns
Zach Allen
If Remmers is signed (as suspected) than RT would not be an immediate starter.
He was asked does he expect to get 2-3 new starters on defense this year out of the draft and he replied "thats the plan". No he wants two immediate starters with the first round picks.... HUGE difference.
expectation the player will come in and start. To do otherwise makes no sense. That is why the Giants drafting a qb in the first at this point in time is would be a huge mistake. They have a chance to draft 3 players who can come in and make a contribution immediately, a qb does not do that.

Not if they already have a QB that can still do the things they need to do. And why DG mentioned the KC model. If teams didn't draft a QB in the first round because he couldn't make and immediate contribution then no QB's would be taken in the first round. Most first round QB's that start do so because there is no other choice.
Ultimately, well have to see how it plays out. And while I only read the transcript, at no point did I read that Shurmur wants those guys to be from the first round.
if not day 1, then by the end of the season. If they have two first-rounders, then they would expect both to start.
That was even true the last time they acquired (though technically didn't draft) a QB in round 1.
It would be out of character for them to use a first-round pick for "the Kansas City model." Though I admit that when it comes to first-round QBs, it's a small sample size.

Shurmur on helping the defense with 2 or 3 starters out of this draft: "That'd the idea.
Seems ESPN is wrong again
Its probably all media, but I certainly see this a lot with sports media (thanks in part to BBI which points us to actual transcripts) where a snippet of quote gets taken out of next to become a headline implying something more than it is or even something completely different.

this is a strong draft if you do not take a QB who will sit for a couple of years, and not work out anyway. Believe ELI still can do the job in the right circumstances.
If Shurmur looked at his current roster a bit more
If we ONLY get 2 or 3 defensive starters out of this draft we'll be in trouble. This is shaping up to be one an outstanding year for DLs, LBs, and Safeties, and we need to plug roster holes in all of those positions. I'm hoping we find 4 or 5 starters from this class of players, not just 2 or 3.

I long for the day when we can enter a draft not desparately needing at least five new starters.

They'll trade the 2nd and 3rd and get another first rounder and pick a third QB. You just watch.
