NFT: Best New Orleans hotels

bc4life : 4/15/2019 10:52 pm
Looking for recommendations 5 or 4 star hotel. 2nd or 3rd week in July
It’s going to be unbearably hot at that time

I’ve been twice in early to mid July. Is that your only time to go?

I’m partial to Hotel Monteleone if you want to be in the Quarter.
Yeah...
Chris in Philly : 4/15/2019 11:04 pm : link
it is going to be HOT!

I also like the Monteleone if you want a classic old Quarter hote

I also like the Hotel Provincial. It’s much smaller, still in the quarter but off the amateur show of Bourbon.

If you want more of a business style hotel, hard to go wrong with the JW Marriott right off Canal.
Yeah I know it will be brutally hot but

Summer's best time for vacation for me. My Mother's family is from there and the wife and I have been talking about going there for some time.
Just got back from NO

Stayed at the Marriott Fairfield Suites. It was just off of Canal and a short walk into the French Quarter. Close to the action but far enough away for some peace. Highly recommend and it wasn't expensive.
I really liked the Sonesta
steve in ky : 4/15/2019 11:13 pm : link
but it has been a number of years since I have been there.
Royal Sonesta

great Hotel. You're in the French Quarter but a block or so over from Bourbon street so you can avoid it if you want. It was hot but early evening is bearable. Right on the same street a block or 2 up is this nice little cafe- Cafe Beignet. Great fresh Beignet without the craziness and crowds of Cafe Du Monde.
I’m sitting in the Hotel St. Marie

As I type this and I’d recommend it. It’s a block off of Bourbon Street, Away enough from the craziness but close enough to everything. I’ve stayed at the Ritz down here before, the Monteleone, the Omni, and another one I forget but this one might be my favorite. Very reasonably priced. Nice rooms and a small pool.
Bourbon Orleans

Always cool.

I also highly suggest B&B’s and hotels on St Charles Ave. beteeen the quarter and Tulane. It’s a more historical laid back area and also just a street car ride into quarter.
thanks for the suggestions

I went in August last year

1st thing everybody said to me is "it's gonna be hot"

so let me ask...did you know it's going to be hot? Get this - they have tree lined streets.....trolly cars...and air conditioning!!

smh

We did a Ghosts and Spirits walking tour anyway.

Check out the Crown Plaza on Bourbon.

Also, one thing that surprised me, but probably shouldn't have...actually 2 things - The French Quarter is extremely dirty. The old buildings and sewage system don't lend itself to a clean modern infrastructure like we're used to. Given that, even the nice clean restaurants will have roaches...just try to ignore...they're everywhere
Warehouse district

Check put hotels in the warehouse district. I've stayed in a few (sorry, I can't remember names at the moment - one was definitely a Marriott) and they worked out great. Cool, safe, fairly quiet area near the FQ and everything else.
What are you looking for in a hotel?
pjcas18 : 4/16/2019 9:01 am : link
proximity? Cleanliness? Peace and quiet? no cockroaches (which are a massive problem in New Orleans)?

When you go, it's basically the best AC possible. It's going to be steamy.

The last three times I went to New Orleans I stayed at the Marriott on Canal Street. For one, I have a ton of Marriott points so I didn't pay for the hotel, but I also enjoyed it being removed from the fray a little bit and it offered a nice respite from the debauchery.

Easy walk to the french quarter, and as a full service marriott you know what you're getting.
The W Hotel is fantastic.

Just one block from Bourbon St, on Chartres. Nice big interior courtyard, rooms are a decent size, easy access to great bars and restaurants.
I can also vouch..
FatMan in Charlotte : 4/16/2019 9:06 am : link
for the JW Marriott. Far enough away from the madness, but close enough to get to where you need to.

You mentioned 4 or 5 star hotels, but I personally like the Courtyard Marriott when I've gone for conventions. Only a couple blocks away from the convention Center in one direction and the French Quarter in the other direction, it is the best value, IMO for New Orleans.
We stayed
Mr. Nickels : 4/16/2019 10:14 am : link
at the Four Points Sheraton and got a balcony suite. Was amazing time.
I stayed at the Royal Sonesta right on Bourbon....
Britt in VA : 4/16/2019 10:18 am : link
and it was awesome!
thanks again

not really going there for the FQ - will see some of it but I have a friend there who will give me the tour that locals think you should take. (and yes, asked friend for hotel recommendations too)

definitely want a quiet spot - bringing the misses - don't want to be awakened with people (aka drunks) running up and down hallway all night
