NYY 2019 really is like a bad dream so far. I'm skipping straight past the hysterics part of it. All I can do at this point is shake my head. There really isn't even much to say.
can't rely on him to stay healthy and he's not good when he's in there anyway. He hasn't hit for three years and he showed no signs of improvement. Enough
I was patient with him, but this was probably a good time for this injury. The Yankees can move on, or atleast put a plan in place assuming he's not going to be the player they want him to be.
Not giving up on him, but they need an everyday 1B that can just have an adequate bat. Let Bird rehab and then spend a ton of time in the minors.

Agree with that. There's nothing to to do but shake my head, move on and hope they can stay afloat until some guys start getting back in the lineup.
It's really been an unbelievable string of injuries, except this one was probably the least surprising to me. More like a when, not an if.
Damn shame. I mean, I think we all figured Bird and Tulo Â
Nicky was actualy productive in his career. Birdy has been nothing but 1 great Homer, and alot of failed promise
This. Guy’s body holds up worse that a 70 year old man. I feel bad for anyone who gets hurt but he hasn’t been good in way to long. Why even waste a spot on the 40 man roster when he does get heathy. He needs t be DFA’d if he does.

I don't think that's much of an exaggeration . I suspect this is at least the third injury he's had this year. In spring training he was hit by an 89 mph curveball on the meaty part of the forearm. Two days later he was still too swollen to swing a bat. In the last game against Baltimore they were facing a tough right handed pitcher who throws a hard slider. If ever they needed an extra left handed bat, this was the game, but mysteriously Bird sat and Gardner was the only left handed bat in the lineup. That gets overlooked because the Yankees scored 15 runs anyway.
I had high hopes when Bird first came up. He looked like a star in the making, but clearly this guy is too brittle to play MLB baseball. Its time to move on. I feel bad for the guy. This was probably his last chance. I won't be surprised if Bird gets moved to the 60 the next time they need a spot on the 40 man roster.
Bird is simply an injury waiting to happen.
They have handed him a roster spot for a few years now!
In the not too distant future, I think they will finally bite the bullet on Smellsbury as well.
He will get his money, just move on already.
said the Yankees should be after Justin Smoak. 100% agree there
Meh, why not wait until we see what Voit can do before chasing after Smoak?
But yeah, Bird should be done in NY.
It's not choosing him over Voit. We could use them both. Smoak at 1B and Voit DH
At least Smoak is a switch hitter, but they have LeMahieu to cover 1st. With Smoak they are back to two 1B only players which hurts the bench. When you only have a 3 man bench, one is a catcher, 2nd is an IF and 3rd is an OF. Now Wade can play IF and OF at three positions(IF & OF) so he has that going if he can ever hit. When Hicks gets back if they want to keep Frazier up, that means Wade or Tauchman must go to SWB - no big deal.
Continues to get another shot there is only 1 person to blame and that is Cashman, he was the one to tell us all that Bird was the best prospect in the Yankee system. Anyone with a set of eyes can see this guy stinks. He has no confidence and for good reason, and please enough of the comparisons to Nick Johnson, Bird is not 1/4 of the player Johnson was, he was a very good player that could not stay healthy, and when he was healthy he performed, he was an excellent first baseman, Bird stinks as a first baseman.
Thank god for Luke!!

...shit.
So we’ll have him back just in time for the post all star break push!
.....until a hangnail shuts him down

Bird has received more chances with the Yankees than anyone I can remember.

The tides will turn eventually.... I think.
Still no excuses not to beat Boston. Baltimore embarrassed them yesterday and they can't even get Chris Davis out.

C:
Sanchez, Romine(2)
IF:
Voit, Torres(SS/2B), LeMahieu(1B, 2B, 3B), Urshela(Andujar)(3B), Wade(Tulo/Didi)(SS) (5)
OF:
Judge, Hicks, Gardner, Stanton, Frazier(5)
At this point I just don't see where Smoak can go and the bench be flexible.
Apparently signed a 1 year deal. Championship.
