NFT: Knicks Chat: Redraft Mario at 8, Knox 13, Trier 19

DanMetroMan : 4/16/2019 12:26 pm
The class' leader in player efficiency rating, Mitchell Robinson makes a monster jump in a re-draft to No. 8 from No. 36.

He finished No. 2 in the NBA in shot-blocking (2.4 per game) playing just 20.6 minutes. Since 1989-90, only eight other rookies averaged as many blocks, including Joel Embiid, Tim Duncan, Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo and David Robinson. And except for Embiid, the other five mentioned all did it over 30.0 minutes a night.

Robinson's quickness, length and timing translated to remarkable defensive playmaking, both around the rim and the perimeter. And his ultra athleticism consistently led to easy baskets, with the 7'1" big man sporting a 69.4 field-goal percentage.

He'd give the Cavaliers a rim protector to rebuild with next to Kevin Love.

Definitely isn't Herzonja at #8

It felt all year like the Knicks had 3 first round picks

the redraft kinda backs that up.

Surprised Porter Jr moves UP 5 spots after missing the whole year.
anyone see the 60 minute interview with the warriors?

When asked how can you leave this team and this organization, KD and Klay dead serious try not to look at the camera, iguodola, curry and livingston start laughing hysterically...

Means absolutely nothing but thought it was funny the 2 free agents had no reaction almost trying to avoid it
obviously

the next steps are highly dependent on the FA and ping pong ball results (Zion, KD, KI etc.) but I love that we have these three rookies (particularly Robinson) + lesser parts like Dotson, Kornet, Allen

Imagine a roster that looks like this:

C: D Jordan, Robinson, Kornet

Forwards: KD, Zion, Knox, Vonleh, Dotson, Ellerson

Guards: Kyrie, DSJ, Allen, Trier, Jenkins
Knicks really killed this draft...

i mean having 3 guys who should have all been first rounders can really help us fill out the roster with solid players. I feel like Perry and the knicks should get a bit more love for the job they did in this past draft. Say what you want about Knox but im still taking him over Huerter, Porter, and prolly sexton. He had his ups and downs as one of the youngest players in the league on a horrible team.
The way Knox finished was encouraging. He got better late in the

season. There was a period in the middle where he was really struggling and it was discouraging. But he turned it around a bit and improved.
That's a fair re-draft.
bceagle05 : 4/16/2019 1:36 pm : link
I like Knox but SGA would've been a great pick for us - he's even versatile enough to play with guys like Morant/Kemba/Kyrie, should we land one of them. Sort of what I hoped Frank would develop into. Oh well.

Can't wait to see Mitch in year two.
They had Knox work on his efficiency

and he improved in that area, which I'm thankful for, but man, he's got to learn to pass. His rebound numbers improved toward the end of the year as well, but if he gets the ball he's not looking to pass at all.

Knox has

all the tools but he is still very raw. Hopefully with some polish he can turn into a real weapon on offense.

Agree. Maybe Knox was drafted five or so spots too high as the re-draft indicates, but Robinson going 36 to 8 and Trier going from undrafted to 19 more than makes up for that. Not that the exact re-draft numbers matter, but as you said it's 3 first-round quality guys.
Knicks seemingly did well in this draft but it shows
Enzo : 4/16/2019 5:41 pm : link
that it gets really hard to properly identify talent once you get outside the top 3-4 guys each year. Yes you can find all-stars everywhere (Giannis, Gobert, etc), but in any given draft slot outside the top end of the draft, you'll find TONS of misses.

Rosenberg and Kay no nothing about basketball. Show is awful. And Mills sure likes a microphone...
Lots of activity in the media lately.
bceagle05 : 4/17/2019 4:47 pm : link
SNY scooped up Ian Begley, MSG is launching a nightly show with Hahn and Pidto, the Knicks leadership has been making the media rounds - it's almost as if a summer of big news is brewing...

True, but IMO we onlookers ignore the most important parts - dev, culture, scheme, fit etc. Giannis, Gobert, you could say the GSW / SA homegrowns (maybe BOS, ATL) to name a few all had this. I bet we'd find a correlation between draft success and certain teams...

Still we cite success rates by round as if the results are all based on scouting & the pick. But the reality it's much more influenced by the multitude of factors post-draft. So those success rates are highly disingenuous. Otherwise they show what we all know: earlier picks are more successful (and in football, you have some correlation by position). Not that useful considering how often it's cited
David Griffin (Pelicans new prez)

met with Rich Paul and is hopeful he can convince AD to stay. That's the next best thing to AD joining the Knicks.

Fizdale in his interview with hahn said matthews had 2nd thoughts about getting a buyout..

Mills and Perry both said they have been told by people around the league that the knicks are being viewed differently..

Mills said in 2016 during the draft process players declined to meet with them because they didnt want to be drafted by the knicks...

Mills saod he was texting deandre after last homr game and deandre said can you imagine how loud it will be when the games mean something again...
Mills always paints a nice picture.

Kyrie all by himself tonight

Perry is the reason they're being viewed differently.

Hit the bricks, Mills. Or at minimum, stay the hell out of the way.
Although there is uncertainty...

I still think the upside with Knox is very impressive for a purported number 13 pick.

He IS the second youngest player in the league, and he has a body that will handle a lot more muscles and tone. Yeah, he needs to learn to pass and defend, but he's 19, for cripe's sake. Let's see what he looks like in 2 years--or even in Las Vegas this summer. Thinking of a still-growing 19-year-old's weaknesses as permanent is short-sighted.
Kyrie was great last night....
Italianju : 11:48 am : link
the idea that BOS is worse with him is so laughable.
Love that sound bite from Durant

To the reporters. (The gist of the question was about if/why he’s not looking to score more against Beverly in the context of their ongoing ‘battle)

Good insight into his mentality and understanding of the game / team aspect and his role within the success of the team.
