at home against a bad Jacksonville team last year and didn't exactly do great. Might as well start with a marquee game against Dallas. We'll see how many national TV games the team gets next year.
the McKinsey group working with the NFL didn't listen to me (figures).
And since this is derived by an algorithm which checks historical information to maximize ratings, we shouldn't be surprised. Giants @ Cowboys does big ratings early in the season so it validates the formula they use, so they will keep doing it.
Dallas has been very good lately at holding up a mirror to us early in the season. How we played in our opener two seasons ago and in our game last year exposed exactly who we were throughout the season. We should know after Week 1 what kind of team this is.
If the Giants win, they're 1-0 in the division with that win coming on the road. If they lose, they lost a division game on the road with a chance at redemption later on at home (not the worst thing in the world).
This is typically a good barometer game for the Giants - when they win this game, it tends to propel them forward. When they lose this game, it tends to reveal they weren't going anywhere anyway.
to start is bad enough. But why is it always in Dallas? Reasonable question.
I had put this in the other thread this morning, and in some threads in the past. I worked with a data science team from McKinsey who was consulting with us. They had worked with the NFL for years helping them with their scheduling and they use data science/analysis to review the various issues on a schedule that can't be avoided (ie- concerts, marathons, conventions, etc.) . From there, they look at historical information on ratings in order to maximize profits because they can go to advertisers and basically sell them guaranteed ratings. From a business standpoint, it's easier to measure success from a true YOY (Year Over Year) to know if they are remaining on track or if they need to change anything.
Giants @ Cowboys is a no brainer high ratings event early in the season. It's turned out that way, so the formula has been validated. They tweak when things don't work. That one isn't impacted, so it stays. The NFL didn't become a billion+ dollar industry by drawing this stuff up in the sand.
Anyway, what I told the McKinsey guys to change the algorithm to play Giants games at 1 PM and no more starting the season in Dallas. Apparently they took my input into the proper consideration.
Good. Barkley can knock off his first 200 yard game.... Â
Means Dallas comes here late in the year and we get them during suspension season. Win is a huge win, loss is early season on the road at a division opponent. Just give me buffalo at home week 2
I don't hear good teams bitch about who they play and where...
So we open in Dallas nearly every year - let's try beating them for a change?
Worked out well when we were good, no?
Agreed, though the idea and image of something completely different is kind of cool too. Knowing its Dallas almost year in and year out is a little boring. Besides, I wouldn't mind seeing this games all be after week 6 (Division games).
but I actually like playing the Cowboys first game of the season. Sure it's a road game but it's one less we have to do later in the season and it's a divisional. A solid win there will be a great stepping off point for the team and keep that winning culture.
always a huge ratings game? If the NFL wants to maximize eyeballs, why wouldn't they put Giants and...some small market team (Zona, or Jacksonville last year), in week 1? Nobody needs to get pumped up to watch football in week 1.

How many freaking times do we have to start a season in Dallas! Can't the NFL be a little more creative?! Jerry Jones pay off the schedule makers again this year!
It has nothing to do with Jerry Jones paying people off.
Some of you guys arrive at some of the strangest conclusions sometimes. Why would he pay the league off to open against the Giants? What's his endgame?
The inevitable complaints on social media about how the Giants Â
got screwed by the NFL in terms of opponents (when the schedule is released) is always my favorite. As if the schedule and opponents aren't predetermined years in advance, with exception of the two games based on prior season's finish (also a formula).

Yeh I thought the same thing. Figured it must have been a bad joke that made zero sense. Like we benefit way more than they do here in this spot.
Just asinine.
Giants at Eagles or vice versa.

Why do they have to go to Dallas week one so often?
Why do they have to go to Dallas week one so often?
Correction:Drop the first two and the season will be over before Halloween again if the Giants put the same product on the field.
Losing the first two games isn't a life sentence in regards to the season.

exactly, more pressure on home team to win
Ha ha... Nice...
Wait, are they playing the Cardinals or us?

It wouldn't hurt if D-Law has a setback in his rehab from surgery.

I’d like to see our bye after this cause that should be a hard hitting game.
